So I'm kind of like, you know, scan tickets, host being a hoes, getting out wristbands and all that good stuff.

So when you're out and about the Patriots Point Stadium, you see Julian Kim.

Let's talk about last Saturday's match against.

Was that Tampa Bay?

So what was your general thoughts, Julian, about the match?

Did you get.

Yeah, I do get to see it.

So what'd you think?

It was kind of what I expected.

You know, two great team going at it, you know, one's unbeaten ones.

You know, we're trying to find our form, so to speak.

So, yeah, I think it was a good match.

Be some missed chances, but, you know, that's just how it is when you play a good team.

That's what they're saying about us.

No, they didn't.

Overall, I thought it was a great match.

Getting to see it live is always amazing.

Like, so annoying watching things on tv, being told, hey, we gotta go do this.

And it's like, I just want to sit here and watch the game.

Well, it's easier to come up with an excuse than that were going to the game and get to see it live.

So beautiful weather, beautiful day.

Lineups on Tampa Bay.

Kind of what you would think.

I did pass Leland when I was walking to my seats.

He was coming out of the kind of player area with two official Tampa Bay coaching staff members.

Ooh.

So that's special.

He didn't look like he was walking.

Great, I'll say that.

But glad he wasn't on the field.

Yeah, I thought the Battery, overall, I thought they had a great game.

I think stats will probably lie in this aspect as we go over them, but I thought we looked the better team for most of the game and I agree.

Yeah, I think a big, a big stat that would prove it is they didn't get a shot on goal until the 73rd minute.

So kudos to our defense.

Really shutting down what they had to offer.

Well, we, we did take control of the match and there was just a couple times that, you know, of course everybody's going to have a little counter here now and then, but I think we, we, we played very well and if we played like that against last week, we would wouldn't have lost that match, I think.

Yeah, I think, I think a big part of it is just confidence for the boys being back home and we probably getting a little bit of being back at their own place, sleeping in their own bed, feeling better, more positive attitude in training and just excited to play in front of this crowd again because I think they.

It's hard to say why we're so flip floppy in some of these matches, but this is the form.

We should see a little bit more.

We should see more consistency, more attack, more control of the game and it's.

It was great to see it happening again.

We haven't seen it in a little bit.

Because we're going to have those up and ups and downs.

As we build the team, they become more cohesive and gel together.

I think we're going to see more performances like this and less performances like we did the week before.

So what did you think about the 3 o' clock kickoff?

It was definitely hot, sunny.

I got a little sunburn.

I don't know if you can tell but yeah.

Staying in the sun for the whole game.

So you know, it was.

But yeah, nice earlier kickoff.

I guess I was just to do something with like the broadcasting or something.

Is that what it was?

So it's usually sometimes the case but you never know.

Well, we had, I think they had 3, 3800 seats or tickets sold.

So it wasn't quite a sellout, but there's quite a few people there.

Most packed.

Atmosphere was great.

Went down to.

So speaking of the atmosphere, the boys were back, as I call them, and you saw them that if you look there on the supporter section on the opposite side of Lebara, and they were here a couple weeks ago and they just brought an energy.

I think it's a fraternity from CFC and they come back wearing pink shirts and having a laugh.

A lot of energy, which is a good thing.

I like that.

I like that, like, because all feed off each other.

Yeah.

Patrick, do you have any thoughts on.

Did you partake any of the food vending?

We did, yeah.

Selfishly, three o' clock's a great time for me because our under one year old goes to bed at seven, so we could still make bedtime, get out of the house.

But I think what like Julian was saying, it was so hot.

It obviously wasn't a sellout because that's the first like amazing boat day and people are going to take advantage of it.

Yeah.

A perk of Charleston is you have too many options of nice things to do.

So really to get three, 800 is pretty good.

I was harassed, I will tell you that, by one of the vendors and I won't mention Jay's name, but every time I go up there, he has to harass me.

His co workers next to him are fine, but he gets unruly and report him to the authorities next time.

And I think people originally, you know, when they first hear us kind of shouting at each other, they take it a little too seriously and then they realize we're joking around, especially when he calls security and then I tell him I'm just here to check his ankle bracelet, make sure it's still functioning and we still track him for his warrants and all that good stuff.

So how do the people.

So last week, the week before, I saw you were down kind of the supporters.

The old supporter section.

The beer garden they call it now.

And then this time you were more by the stands.

Yeah, I was between the pepper and restock.

So how does everybody treat you?

Very nice.

Yeah.

I mean, it's.

On occasion, you know, there's some stragglers, but, you know, I try to do my best part and just make them happy and do what I can do.

So a lot of the people that go to this, to those.

Whatever you call those, those areas, are they new to soccer?

They knew the battery.

Is it like groups going there from work or are they.

Yeah.

So like last for last.

The game that we had, it was a lot of mesc people, so they had like a bunch of the box suites and resets and all that.

So.

Yeah, on occasion he had scroops or part birthday parties or, you know, special events of some sort.

Yeah.

That's cool.

So let's talk about the starting 11.

Lots, I would say, right?

Like for how well he's been kind of performing, you would think he would start, but the rest are the usual.

So I think for me, Suber is the big, big absentee, you know?

Yeah.

Did it hurt us or help us that he wasn't there?

I think everyone else stepped up to play.

Like, I think we gelled really well together.

So I don't.

I can't really say if he would have been better than Krill.

Cause I thought Krill did really good, especially getting that early card.

I mean, that had to be like five minutes into the game.

Gets carded and not in any trouble for the rest of the game.

Played really well, attacked the ball, stood his ground.

So, Yeah, I thought Foster was great too.

Like just his attacking play to run off of people and.

Yeah, in the space so, so fast too.

He's amazingly fast.

I.

It's just he was leaving some people.

I was like, man, he's.

They have no chance.

And I thought he would do really well against Dos Santos if they were going up against each other because Nate's a little slow.

But Nate was holding his own for most of the match.

We're still sticking with Zamudio.

Is it time for a change yet?

I mean, we harped on it last time, right?

We've harped on it.

Julian, what do you think of.

Did you get to see the goal that went in?

I saw brief.

I saw kind of like cross, I guess on.

I couldn't see it very well, but yeah, I kind of saw the goal.

But, you know, I mean, in my eyes you just see a goalkeeper rushing out.

Get the ball or get the guy.

Get something.

If you're going to rush the guy, you have to get something.

Yeah, yeah.

Well, it was defending or, you know, Messer is.

He is just killing it.

And I.

He's fantastic and he's, you know, energized.

But I think he kind of set that whole thing up, put us in bad situation.

But I think Samudio should have done better on that goal.

Yeah.

Who else?

They also had a shot like, I don't know, five, six minutes before that.

Their first shot on a goal.

It was kind of similar setup, but the guy hit it instead of playing it to the right side.

So I don't know if they kind of adjusted or just like.

I don't know.

It definitely wasn't too much of a breakdown in play.

Like, the angles are good.

You shouldn't be scoring from that side of the field.

Yeah.

The goalie should have a better idea.

Personally, I thought he should have just stayed in the net.

Like the angle is pretty harsh for them to score on you.

Yeah.

And defenders coming back.

I mean, it just.

Well, let's talk about a switch from our starting 11 to.

Let's talk about MD Myers.

Pretty well shut him down, did we not?

He played.

Oh, I don't know.

Was he?

Yeah, he's up there.

He was up there.

He did what he normally does.

Apparently he's on another podcast saying how he wanted to score like 35 goals this season or something like that.

I don't know where he's playing.

Rec league maybe.

I don't know.

But what about Dos Santos?

Because, you know, he's my boy.

He doesn't look good.

He doesn't look good in green.

He doesn't.

It's really Disgusting.

Looking for honest.

Yeah.

Miss that dude.

I know he played really well for him though.

I, I see why he's starting with him.

Absolutely hated him during the game.

Yeah.

Post game comes over saying hi and everything and yeah, he's a great dude.

Hate that he's on the other team.

Hey, we're friends off the pitch and we're enemies on the pitch.

I guess that's how it works.

Well, I understand why he left.

Wish he didn't have to.

I think we need to talk about the wing play a little bit because.

When you say wing as in our.

Outside backs like we had, I. I get a really good advantage sitting where I sit that they every time we had the ball kind of going forward towards halfway there's like 20, 30 yards of space and Messer and Landry, I don't know it has to be coaching because they are not just going forward into all this space and getting the ball played to them.

You would think it's a no brainer.

Just go run up the field 20 yards.

Yeah.

And if a guy's not going to follow you, we'll get the ball to you and you're in.

We got a two on one over there or we could get a cross in so maybe look out for in the next game.

Is is weird that it was almost like they were told to stay back too much.

Who that?

Our backs.

Our left and right back.

Yeah, our outside backs because they were some of the most creative players.

Obviously Messer gets an assist.

But I thought Landry played his balls off in this game like he did did.

Messer's assist really wasn't from open.

It was was from corner kick.

So it was kind of a set piece.

It wasn't open play.

Well, he also had the one to Cad's header like slammed off the post.

I mean it was a little more on not on Messer but this is too high.

But still getting the ball to a guy.

Should he put that in Julian, what do you think?

Theoretically, yes.

But you know there's pressure on him too.

I think so.

But he gets paid to handle that pressure.

True.

Yeah.

I look back I and I missed that during the match but when I looked back at the highlights and rewatched that part I was like oh man.

That was basically an open net.

And just I guess after Sunday watching a lot of stuff hit the woodwork too.

I just sometimes you, you're lucky, sometimes you're not.

I guess I don't say lucky because I hate that word in, in the context of soccer because they make things happen or you don't but it could.

It could have really changed the whole complexion of the game.

Yeah.

What about Ikaza?

Do you think he had a better match than he's had in a while?

I think so,.

Yeah, for sure.

I think he definitely stepped it up from the last one.

Bare minimum he was getting touches on the ball and you can see him playing.

So I think the last game he was maybe caught a little too much in no lands land where he gets put to the background let's say.

So he was playing more of that eight role, was he not?

He's playing a little more forward than he has been the last couple matches.

Yeah, I think it was like attacking mid type.

Yeah, I think that's where he naturally goes.

So I had K. That's like he looks like he's huge, like a giant in the midfield.

He's strong too.

Oh, I was.

Somebody was asking me about him.

That Chelsea fan I was telling you about.

We were.

Anyways, he goes who is that huge like player in the middle of field?

That's are.

I said said that's cr He's a pretty big guy and he's a midfielder.

I said y. Yeah, they pair him.

Up next to Foster.

It's great.

Exactly.

They should put.

They should put all three center mids there and put cause on one side, Foster on the other.

And we have Alec Hughes back in the pitch.

He's going to add some more tallness there.

Yeah, pretty sure.

Foster is Ikaza's like right hand guy.

Like he opens the field so much for him.

You have to follow you.

He's so fast, so quick.

He.

He gets into space every time where it's easy to play a guy like that.

The ball you just got to kick it at least 30 yards in front of him and you know he's going to get it.

So let's talk about quickly the system.

I mean we.

We played 442 which we've kind of moved around three at the back, forward to back, that kind of stuff.

Did that work?

I.

You think it worked well for us or do you think it's better that we keep changing up depending upon the competition?

Well, let me talk about that.

I think I like the 442, three to back I think worked against the Kentuckians.

The way we rotate it, just the players you put in, you're going to have to switch formation because they're not naturally stuck to certain roles.

So like you have a guy like Landry, you might switch a little more to three back for the game because he presses really high and even gets into that center mid roll, which opens up the role for that player to push up and maybe be a second cam or a winger.

So I think it just depends on the personnel you're picking more than the matchup itself for us.

And Landry was doing he last season.

He played more midfield.

Okay.

And so put him as a right back.

I think him tucking in his shirt, that makes him much better.

Makes him faster.

I don't know.

Definitely makes him tackle harder, that's for sure.

It's proven.

It's proven that.

And like tape around your ankle, fishing guards up.

Yeah, for sure.

That way when you hit at high velocity, they don't rattle around.

Yeah.

So we had possession, possession.

Possession wise, we weren't as dominant as we normally are.

But when you look at all the stats, we were kind of pretty even.

Yeah, I think that that's what I was alluding to.

To begin, like, we definitely controlled the ball more the way Tampa Bay would try to break and just lose possession or give away a cheap ball or try and play it in the air.

Yeah, we were too dominant to win it back.

So I think the stats lie a lot in this game because I thought we dominated most of this in our play and we weren't really threatened compared to they can take shots, but they didn't have that many on target until late into the second half.

One of the stats that popped out at me was, and it always seems kind of funny to me, so touches in the opposition box, they had 11, we had 23.

That stark difference between the two of us.

But then always go like we only had 23 touches inside the opposition box.

Which box are they looking at a penalty?

I don't know.

But still, it means that we're really getting a ball in there and.

And, you know, shooting from close quarters versus from the long range shots.

And I was trying to look up the other stat that kind of stuck out at me.

And let's talk about quickly Casad hitting the post.

We talked about briefly.

Oh, what does he need to do different to get that ball in there?

Because he was just subbed on.

Right before then.

Yeah, I think just more opportunities.

Just keep feeding the ball the box.

This is how you score goals in any game.

I mean, you're coming up cold off the bench.

This could have been his.

I don't remember.

One of his first two touches.

Touches you get on the ball, the more comfortable you get in the game, the more you're feeling it and the more you, like, just get more opportunities.

Yeah, he was in great position.

He's there by himself.

I don't know if it was just, like, drift into the ride a little bit, and it just kind of set everything off, but it was great service.

Just.

It's supposed to add a little more oomph in that header, I think.

Yeah, I mean, that's what it is.

So what you think the opposition.

I'll tell you what I'll think of him because I was down both ends.

He's whiny.

He's always cramping up.

What do you guys think of getting a point here?

You think we should have got the win, or is it all right that we walk away from at least something positive?

I feel like we should have tried to get a win, but I think a point against a undefeated team that's, you know, on the fly, basically, I think it's a good stepping stone for us to improve.

I agree.

I asked that question to Coach Pierman after the match, and he was slightly positive because I was trying to make it a positive question.

Like, look, we played the top team two weeks, you know, couple weeks apart, and we took three points away from Kentucky and then took one point from here, and he was still like, yes, I hear you, kind of.

I'm a little disappointed we only got one point because he felt like we played so dominantly over Tampa Bay, which we did, too.

So I like it.

It's.

It's just too bad we lost, you know, dropped three points in between.

But I think it shows.

Hopefully it builds up that confidence with.

With the team that they can.

They can dry, you know, slay dragons.

Or young teams, so.

Which is a much improvement.

I love.

I mean, it looked great.

At what point do you go okay, this is the player I'm supporting and putting on my back.

Is it too early?

I mean like sewer might next match run out be like killing it.

You're going to be disappointed that you have Zamudio on your back.

I don't think I would ever be disappointed.

I have him on my back because I will carry him on my back the whole season if I have to.

But yeah, I just don't think we've had anyone become the breakout standout player yet.

Our go to which we've seen past few years of guys just stepping up and becoming that center factor.

The guy who like I mean mainly we've bought targets that were huge profile like when we got Cal Jennings.

That's a big name.

You're getting the leading goal scorer.

You're bringing them to your club.

You're pairing them up with some guys who are leading the league in assist.

Malloy was the center of our team.

So I think all of us fans just need a little adjustment to figure out who we really want to get on the jersey.

So let's Julian, what do you think what jersey you getting and who you getting on your on your jersey?

So this is what is crazy to me.

How do we fit Suber into the.

Back into this team?

Because I don't think he's fitting in super well into the role he wants to play.

I mean, maybe this role of coming off the bench until he gets a better understanding of the play because it is a totally different position.

And you have Joey and Graham Smith behind him.

Like, I'd rather have those two start consistently, keep the groove going, play really well together at the cost.

That Sean Suber needs a little more time to learn this role that he is very adamant in being in.

Joey adds so much energy and.

Yeah, I think you gotta be getting back your jersey.

But you mentioned somebody's name.

Graham Smith.

He had two massive tackles that were just.

Just killed it with the one.

The first one, I was like, oh, man, that was just incredible.

And the second one wasn't as impactful, but it was still a really fantastic tackle.

And you can see why he was, you know, such a great defender.

Last couple matches, maybe he hasn't been playing up to the standard he normally does, but this weekend he's done.

He's done a fantastic job.

Yeah, I think he's done well.

I. I think he's a solid player.

He's one we don't have to talk about often.

So that just shows you how good he is.

Yeah, that we don't really touch on him.

As always outstanding or.

Man, where is his form gone?

He's just been consistent.

I'm just.

What do you guys think of Cabrera?

Because I think that's the one question mark of.

Is he a rotational guy in this squad now?

Should we be thinking of switching him out a little bit more?

Maybe Colton Swan going a little right, so.

But Barry's up top, so you have a little more attacking threat with that.

I. I want to see more Colton Swan, Cabrera, and same thing with Barry.

Barry, he's got a lot of energy, but somebody pointed out this is like that Guy jogs a lot.

I'm like, a couple matches ago, he was on fire.

He was running everywhere.

And then this past match there was, he was just not putting out the energy.

But Cabrera, he had a couple shots on goal, one shot on the goal.

But I don't think he's, he's lifting us like we need a lift.

Maybe putting him in that cam roll, you know, under maybe barrier swan and strike and put him in cam.

Maybe he'll find his role there.

Maybe too.

Maybe so.

Yeah.

I don't know where everyone fits yet.

I think Pyramid's still figuring that out too.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Because we also have injuries like Allen's out, so maybe that's why Subar's playing that defensive mid roll for the time.

That could be too.

Who knows?

But that's what my thought process is with that.

It would be incredible if he just clicks and him and Krill are just who, that no one could run by these guys.

Subaru and Krill.

What team could run past those two and then be like, damn it, now I got Joey and Graham Smith right behind them.

Would that be fantastic?

That's, I like that thought.

And then we put Emilio up in front of him.

I still can't find the stats I was looking for.

I found him earlier.

Joey had some phenomenal stat I was looking at earlier.

Like his.

Oh, here it is.

Accurate passes at 58 out of 60.

94% Of his passes were connecting.

That's Joey.

Center back.

You know, center backs in our, in our system of play where we kind of, you know, possession ball, expect them to have a lot of passes.

But when you're getting passing percentages like that, even when they're easy passes around to the side.

But still, I mean, pretty crazy.

Ten passes into the final third for Graham Smith.

Isn't that amazing?

That's pretty insane.

Yeah.

For a center back too.

I know.

Well, it's because our center backs play right, right above the D, right?

Yeah.

They kind of push up, I think.

Yeah.

Gives us more blur and attacking prowess, I guess.

Yeah.

And Joey had eight in the final third, so I think I, I, I feel like Joey and Graham are, are two center backs that we just need to stick with everyone else we need to move around because we have suber that can play center back.

Who else can play center back?

I'm sure you could put a couple guys in there.

I don't think that's their best position, but I think you can slot a few.

Like, honestly, I think Landry could Probably sit in there.

So what happens when Graham gets hurt?

He's not going to get hurt.

Julia Isa beige put Shawn Schuber back in there.

Supposedly that happens.

Almost.

Yeah.

But yeah.

Oh, have we played Subaru and Joey?

Is that our two center backs?

I think we played Sean and Graham for a little bit.

Joey kind of came back and switched around or something like that.

So.

So we pushed Graham up forward to be our striker and then put Subaru in, Joey back there.

So the one person we haven't talked a whole lot about is who's becoming my favorite player is Messer.

I mean, he is just having match after mast match after match where he's given good service in the box.

They're not like errant shots, you know, just kind of lazy ones.

He got an assist in the match last couple matches, got a couple assists.

One of the things I enjoyed, I was on the sideline taking some pictures and he.

You can hear him just talking to the other players, you know, giving instructions, tell him where he's coming.

I mean it was just.

So the interview afterwards, he was saying, you know, we practice stuff like this, but you don't really practice it flicking off the back of your head.

But yeah, here's the other cool thing about Martinez.

And not that I had a low opinion of Martinez, but his aftermath interview, he was, he was nervous.

He was nervous that, you know, to do the interview.

English isn't his necessarily his first language, but he was just, he was nervous about it.

I was like, you know, player of your caliber, why are you nervous about this stuff?

But it's kind of cool to see this, see that.

I don't call it being humble, but kind of see the frailty of, of a player.

It's like he's hitting it into different areas to get guys involved.

I hit it kind of in this little area every time because people can see that and goalies adjust to it and they may push guys aside and run to that spot to go and collect it.

So it's nice to see that he can place it in different areas to go ahead and keep the opposition guessing.

It's definitely putting out a bread basket for our player strikers to attack for.

For me it has to be Messer.

I thought he just did a really good job even hustling back.

If we had had the ball turned over and honestly just killing a counter attack by getting in front of it or just getting in front of a guy, not letting him run back.

Obviously had a great offensive game, but those little things you don't really see unless you're live watching a certain player.

I think he did it all.

I know we Messer won it for us, but it was between probably Huu and Emilio.

For me, I feel like they kind of certified some spots and.
