Join the Crue on a very short podcast due to the engineer being an idiot and was consequently sack, sacked again, and is presently experiencing retraining. From the engineer: Please forgive me and please forgive the very short podcast when in reality if I was competent I would have actually pressed record on the fantastic dialogue where Ryan and Granit discuss the recent Detroit City match where the Battery was second best. Again, my apologies. Signed, the recently sack engineer. (I have set up a go fund me to support my family through these turbulent times).
[00:00:00] Welcome to the abbreviated Cannon Crue podcast. I am joined here by Ryan. How you doing, Ryan? Doing fantastic, Granite. How are you? I'm not doing very well. This is our third take at this. We did a nice one yesterday. We're
[00:00:13] very proud of it. And it turns out our engineer sucks. And I have since sacked our engineer and maybe after some retraining, I thought. So he's been sacked about five minutes ago. We're going to rehire him because we have no choice. And we're going to try this again
[00:00:26] for the third time. So we're here to talk about the Detroit City match and a little bit about Matt coming up later on and any general thoughts on Detroit? Yeah, I mean, thoughts on Detroit is that they just outplayed us physically. They were a more
[00:00:47] physical presence on that pitch. The battery did quite well on controlling the midfield, but yet again, for a third game in a row, we struggled in that final third and had maybe one or two shots on goal for Lucky. I don't even think we had any.
[00:01:04] Yeah, we were talking about two themes, the physicality they had and the lack we had. And the other one is the psychological game. Mackey Rodriguez schooled us on how to get in the referee's head. I mean, he was in his face giving diving simulation stuff all the time,
[00:01:24] always talking to him and not liking a nice manner like we sometimes do. And we've got to learn from that. And we've got to put goals in the back of the net.
[00:01:34] Yeah, I mean, it's got to come down from the top though. USL is going to watch this game and say, dude, like any hand gestures is a yellow card. Then the rules, you guys are the ones who
[00:01:44] set it. And Seggbers is our player that is our most disciplined, well respected, well spoken player out there. And for him to feel that kind of frustration goes to show really how far that
[00:02:03] game was being pushed. And Seggbers is kind of the professional out there. He's the calming force. Him and Leland, at one point, two points Seggbers just had enough. He got pushed in the back
[00:02:15] by a city player and got up, got a little animated with him into his face. And then later on when the referee made a call that basically was a dive on their part but stopped a very promising
[00:02:30] attack on our part. I think that was it as the tipping point. Yeah. I mean, you can go on the other hand, you look at Emilio. Emilio was up and down the pitch doing
[00:02:43] all sorts of heavy work throughout the day giving 120%. And he was fouled the most out of anybody. He was fouled six times. Two of them, he was thrown out of bounds. One of them,
[00:02:55] he was thrown so far out of bound, he was thrown into the knees of his own players on the bench. Like, did that on this alone should have been a yellow?
[00:03:04] It should have. And foul was awarded but that was it and we went on. If that was a foul, it was careless, reckless, whatever you want to call it. It was without concern for what happened
[00:03:16] to the player and that warrants some kind of caution at least. So we just got to score goals. We're not doing it. We've got to do something different up front. And we kind of talked about this too, you know, with Lecava leaving and going to San Antonio
[00:03:33] opens up the possibility of do we take the opportunity and transfer in rather someone to fill in an up top position. Look for someone who's more of a holder who's bigger has a presence who can be our enforcer and so on because really our two enforcers would be
[00:03:54] Maloy and Leland and Leland's our center back captain. You don't want him getting in trouble. Or Maloy, or you know who's the Chris Allen. Yeah, Chris Allen. He's a big physical force in there
[00:04:07] but last time he tried to be enforcer, he got two yellows back to back which I don't think both of them were warranted but it's interesting how it seems like one standard is applied to us
[00:04:19] is in the battery and it's a different standard later on. And that I think purely comes from I don't know how the referees are mentored taught whatever else is a coherent type of group that
[00:04:32] they review their play amongst themselves or is it part of more of a group thing? I don't know because it seems like the standard is different for each referee and that's always going to be some variation but this is ridiculous. Yeah, there's always you always have some different
[00:04:48] differences between the referees but when he come down to the physical wall of the game that's what does not change and that's what was frustrating in the games is so many walls went way over
[00:05:00] like there was a limit and it went way over that. Yeah and I always say A, be consistent in your calls and it didn't seem like it was consistent in his calls during that match.
[00:05:13] So let's talk quickly about some of the fun stuff because I'm tired of talking about the not fun stuff is kind of cool to see the Stroh's beer sign on the side of the stadium that was
[00:05:22] kind of cool maybe we'll see some a ham sign or an Olympia sign or something like that. The other throwback was Matt Sheldon playing for Detroit City played really well. Yeah good to see him
[00:05:33] back out in the field and good to see him getting a lot of playing time. So that about sums it up we can't score goals Mila did a fantastic job we've got to be more physical. One more shout out
[00:05:50] Glad Ben was on the sidelines he got a little caution for the scent but I'm glad he jumps in there to defend his players or whatever he was saying is obviously they took offense to it
[00:06:01] and it might be because the referee couldn't even get the right uniforms on. Once again we have one person has a long sleeve and everybody else has short sleeve and I don't
[00:06:13] know where that pay them more hey refs I will send you money for a short sleeve shirt if you need it okay I probably got one in my kit back. I say get that sent out ASAP.
[00:06:23] So something else is coming up later on today and something else is rising what is rising? The Phoenix Rising we are on the road in Phoenix tonight taking on the Phoenix Rising
[00:06:42] and you know granted this is a you know this is a repeat you know this is a match-up everyone had marked from the calendar is going into the season yet again though you see the battery sitting
[00:06:54] in second place sitting in a little bit better position than they were last year even though we are fighting ourselves in a hole in these last five games we're still in a better position than
[00:07:06] we were last year and first 15 games looking at how the rising are doing you know same as last year you know they're sitting right in sixth place in the west and they're one of
[00:07:17] those teams that you know regular season doesn't matter they're one of the teams that kind of turn it on to the playoffs so I think us right here it's an opportunity to really capitalize on it and
[00:07:29] it's going to be a good game on the road and if we can take away a point I will be happy with that if we could take away all three then great because then we host North Carolina FC that we
[00:07:40] follow in yeah because we got it we got to load our cannons with some some bird shot and make sure that Phoenix doesn't rise like they hope it does kickoff at 10 30 eastern standard time Edmunds O's Brewing Company Joey has mentioned opening up so check your social
[00:07:57] media is whatever see if he's going to have the pub open at Edmunds O's Brewing Company so we can join up down there might be a couple of us have a couple beers I think kitchen closes at
[00:08:07] nine and you might be able to bring in some snacks if you like uh if it's it is open as always I think it's five dollar pints and that's about all I got short quick one sorry about this my fault I mean
[00:08:23] the engineer's fault he has been sacked we'll find a new engineer or we'll hire one yeah we'll actually hire okay thanks y'all
