Join the Cannon Crue in their discussion of the home fixture of the battle between our Charleston Battery and Miami FC resulting in another clean sheet for Mr. G with a 2 nil victory.
[00:00:00] Welcome to Cannon Crue, a weekly podcast discussing the Charleston Battery. Your host Granit will be joined by other defenders of the fleet from the Black and Yellow supporters section and together they will help fortify and conquer the other Cannon crew.
[00:00:37] Welcome to the Cannon crew podcast, this is Granit and I'm joined by Ryan. Ryan how you doing? Doing great Granit. Good and also joined by Matt Evans. Matt how are you? I'm good, I'm happy to be back. So what have you been doing?
[00:00:53] Honestly what haven't I been doing? I finished up this semester out in London, it was great and then decided to come back and no better way to spend my summer than working with the Charleston Battery and working with Arsenal Football Club so it's been a really busy summer.
[00:01:10] So what have you been doing for the battery? Yeah I do match communication so to put it pretty simple I work with the referees sometimes coaching staff if it needs to and I make all the once the final sessions
[00:01:23] are made on the field I communicate that to the production team so whether that be the in-house for all the stadium announcements or ESPN or Paramount Plus. That's pretty cool because you're right there on the pitch so you get to see what
[00:01:35] the fourth officials going through the discussions with the coaches all that interesting stuff that we don't get to hear when we're up in the stands anything interesting you can share with us from the match Friday night?
[00:01:47] Yeah absolutely so one of the big roles that I have to do is take care of the rest. So when the rest I have to check in with them first thing and whatever
[00:01:56] their checklist or they're to do for the day is I got to just tag along and it's a really cool experience getting to meet the rest from all over the country I don't know now everyone knows this they're always splone it so they work
[00:02:07] for the USL it's all contracted we had some rest one of them was from Italy today or this past couple days which is really cool and so when I was there in the beginning I actually got to meet the head coach of Miami as well
[00:02:21] as when he got to meet you know coach Ben Peerman so that was a really cool interaction to see I just have to say that Miami coach although it wasn't his day he's a really nice guy so I felt a little bad that the battery happened
[00:02:35] to slap him up like sometimes that happens if he's been around for a little bit and I think you did a little riding on him so you don't know a little bit more about him than probably the average soccer Joe because I think
[00:02:46] when we started this the very first match was against Miami and you do a little research on him anything you'd like to share yeah absolutely so I actually so that research inspired me to do one of my papers at the end of my
[00:02:59] semester about him so his name and again I'm gonna probably butcher this which why I would be so upset with me cuz Talian American but the Americans the key part there his name is Antonio Nasseri and he actually
[00:03:11] used to play for some of the biggest teams in the world so you go back and look at his career he played for Palermo he played for Juventus, Isim Alon, West Ham which funnily enough and then later in his stages of his
[00:03:24] career she played with Kaka down at Orlando City on Kaka's suggestion which I just thought is crazy that all the players that Kaka had played with he's no no no I want Antonio's freedom and that end up leading down to the coaching.
[00:03:40] That's pretty interesting and it'd be real interesting to keep up with people like that throughout the league because we're gonna probably see a lot of people come through the battery the stadium that we just assume like a
[00:03:50] referee from Italy we just assume he's wearing the uniform and we hate him automatically but then we do start learning his background you're like he's actually human. Ryan what did you think of the match? I actually didn't get to see it as I was hosting my goalkeeper
[00:04:07] camp on Friday. Yeah and how did that go? It was it was a good turnout for the week we had 13 keepers at West Ashley High School and they all did quite well I was very impressed to see how they're all coming along and we're just gonna continue going
[00:04:26] after it and improving this goalkeeper position in West Ashley and putting the emphasis out here on that position because a lot of sorry go ahead. Right yeah you're underselling yourself because I've watched so many young youth teams and their goalkeeping coaching is basically just
[00:04:48] shoot the ball at the kid and hopefully stop some. I think you're underestimating what you're doing not just for West Ashley one position but just West Ashley anybody's come to those camps and I hope you continue doing that because you're broadening the skill
[00:05:01] levels of keepers throughout Charleston and right now you're just getting of it but I think it'll be such a great advantage to everyone who comes to your camps because even though you play for my team and we don't care for you much because you're not the best.
[00:05:14] And I'm just kidding he's a fantastic keeper. He likes to get red cards every once in a while but we enjoy that. It's amazing I think what I love most about being a goalkeeper coach now is watching the change and those new keepers when
[00:05:29] they're developing because being a keeper is a very scary position at first and when you have to be brave right. You're going in and people could take your head off at any moment when they swing their legs it's got studs at the bottom you know.
[00:05:41] And you know I got especially had a few young girls and younger boys coming in hadn't played goalkeeper position or just picked it up within the last few months and every single one of them had this fierce attitude after the end of the camp was over
[00:05:57] and they had this new found of respect and attitude but their total mentality changed and they're a lot more fierce and more brave in the box which is amazing to see. I completely agree with you goalkeeper.
[00:06:10] In my I used to play when I was really little my dad's a big baseball fan so naturally when you go in a soccer from a baseball fan years in goal. So that's what it was for me and it was very interesting as
[00:06:21] well I got to sit in on a recent camp about a month ago with Charles the soccer club and it was Vic Bentonelli who was related to Marcus Bentonelli of Chelsea. So it was really cool to hear his perspective on America and
[00:06:34] specifically goalkeeping in America and I was actually shocked that he was very impressed about the whole quality the whole standard of the U.S. goalkeeping system and that there's actually a lot that England and the rest of Europe takes from some of the U.S.
[00:06:52] training just because I mean when you look at the end of the day the U.S. is the king of any sports that utilizes hands so when it comes to goalkeeping we always have been pretty good so I think you're really just you're doing the work that's
[00:07:05] put in the USA on the map out there by helping the goalkeepers because look if we can have another Tim Howard why not have them come from Charleston. Absolutely. So great work Ryan keep it up we'll support you. I'll buy you a beer once a while.
[00:07:25] Let's go back to the battery match. Little drizzly there's quite a few of us left I think they sold twenty hundred tickets didn't ring that bad just bringing raincoats throw them on. I was too nil and I'm going to say drubbing because we
[00:07:41] really just controlled the match the whole time. This was like the you know when we first started playing the second or third match in where we started you know controlling passing and everything else. I personally think Miami as much as I have a soft spot for that.
[00:07:57] That was one of the worst performances I've ever seen at the battery stadium that wasn't from a battery side because I got to say my PTSD is still there from a few years ago but look I mean that game you come out of
[00:08:09] the first half and I rarely remember Miami not only touching the ball but getting into Charleston batteries defensive third they were second to every ball third to every ball and sometimes it didn't even look like Miami wanted to play.
[00:08:25] I was a little sad because it seemed that the batteries press and interplay was at such a high level that I couldn't even see Miami's game plan. I couldn't even try and see what Miami were doing. It was very clear to me based off some of the
[00:08:41] previous games I've seen that they changed their game plan for this match and wrong decision. Now but when you say that like that was Miami's worst possibly their worst performance and you know going off basically how you just looking at ESPN stat line
[00:09:00] of the game and how battery you're saying battery really controlled the game should have been more. Was it due to field conditions or was it just in the final third battery weren't connecting because I feel like you know that scoreline it should
[00:09:16] definitely be more than two zero and both goals were scored four minutes apart. No you're absolutely right. You look at we had 23 shots on goal 23 shots only said we had seven on my goal. We just once again were plagued by not being able to finish very well.
[00:09:34] You think we actually need to give the battery a little credit here. And again this is a little bit of insider information just from the whiskers that I hear. I found this out which was a shock to me. The battery does not maintain the pitch.
[00:09:48] They're not allowed to. They do not have their own groundsmen. They don't they can't even paint the line. So for example on this Astor Friday's match they had to call call the Trollsons groundsman that day to come cut the grass because he just chose not to.
[00:10:06] So when you look at the quality of the pitch and are speaking to the USL representative at the match that day it's at the point where there they're they feel bad for the battery because there's not much they can do due to the fact
[00:10:19] that called the Trollsons kind of it's just strong arming them there. But at the end of the day it is not a good pit. I mean we made fun of Rhode Island a few weeks you know a few months ago but this this battery
[00:10:31] Patriots Point complex great offside the grass but that turf it's it's far from a carpet it looks like a golf course. Yes it look almost look like it's sand based I mean really sandy which when you look at from a level it doesn't look that bad but when
[00:10:48] you look at the TV cameras and the higher elevation you can see a hole so in the big patches of grass missing it looks like it's been filled in with sand. Has it looks like it was filled in with sand because it has been filled with that.
[00:11:02] That's a classic top gap of Patriots Point that whole grounds maintenance team has been doing it for years. I actually have vivid memories of playing at Patriots Point as a kid on the rec field and we would live in the sand while we're playing.
[00:11:16] So again if it's affecting a 12 13 year old player then of course it's going to affect the pros. And I happened to you know no names will be named for me but I did you know hear from a few of the battery players and they prefer their
[00:11:30] training pit instead of the one that they're playing at now which again when you talk about being well prepared for a mat. You want to be the first thing you need is a good field and if you can't provide that it's going to hurt.
[00:11:44] Yeah and especially if you know the battery looking to want to host again this year that's not a field that they're going to want to be hosting the final on again. It's almost like we need to or the battery needs to open it up and strike a deal
[00:11:56] with the maintenance crew trying to see if they can get some overtime going on. I think they need some UV lights or something down there or maybe it's time to move. Who knows you know because there's a lot of there's a couple other options in the
[00:12:09] Charleston area that they could play and play on some fantastic fields if they had control of it I imagine. You think they just get up you think you just get up and move with all the new renovations they just completed. Pens on who you talk to.
[00:12:24] So I think it's a split conversation within the club and I think it's something that needs to be factored in but at the end of the day we've all seen those pictures we've all know how Petri point looks like camera. It's a fantastic location.
[00:12:38] I mean when you talk about just from scenery having the bridge right there that's a that's worth a lot for them. So when I mean their big market is not pleasant at the moment too. So it's just tough but I would say they're not ruling it out.
[00:12:54] See if you need to step up. I suspect if we go over to the baseball outfield it's probably not in the same condition as the soccer pitch and you're right. Their training pitch is much better condition won't be as much fun for us
[00:13:08] fans I guess maybe I can sit in my car look for the fence but. But anyways so let's go back to the batter match like we're talking about that first goal come in. Nick gets his 18th I guess that's a 17th goal hard work by Seggber's fantastic
[00:13:25] ball in and Nick just had to kind of basically redirect it. I think Seggber shows quality. I mean Mark Seggber is to me has been one of the best pickups of the battery in the past couple years. He's just one of those guys behind
[00:13:40] the scenes smile on his face 24 7 but when he's on the pitch whether it's your training or Matt head down working hard and for me that's what I always love the player you can tell he's happy doing what he's doing. And personally you know I think the
[00:13:53] best asses is when he gets forward and he showed it that day. Yeah another thing maybe you can confirm or deny this appeared as if Torres and Rodriguez kind of played on one side majority time for about the first 15 20 minutes and then switch over to the other side.
[00:14:12] Well I'm just seeing something or was that just is that part of the plan. No it was absolutely part of the plan to target that side down. When you look at when Rodriguez stepped in before this match he was averaging a goal contribution every 100 minutes
[00:14:26] coming off of a few very unlucky injuries this season. And you know he is definitely the most technically gifted player in the squad on the ball. He's the closest thing to magician that the battery have and they decide to utilize that. So I don't know if you're
[00:14:44] referring to what I'm about to say but he was the trigger for a lot of different tactical adaptations that attack whether it was moving in a two or three or four. Yeah and I also know that Marky Mark all sudden he's in the like
[00:14:58] that was it was his own 14 up there in front of the goal a couple of times I was like that's interesting. Look like Aaron was sliding back into the cover that position and we were getting people different looks and coming in and on the attack.
[00:15:11] Well this was a big game for Seggers. So when you look at Seggers we signed him from Miami. This is his former club and this is a match that you know definitely there's a chip on his shoulder. And I think having
[00:15:27] Nick move in to a little bit more of a central position allowing more interplay with M.D. Allowing you know Rodriguez to have more of a free role than just opened up that right hand died for. I mean at one point I saw
[00:15:41] we had Seggers making an attacking run with three overlapping runs with you know Torres was even on the right at that point where it was like the left flank was absolutely open and the battery had the complete permission to do that because Miami wasn't touching the ball.
[00:15:57] Yeah we had players moving all over the place and it wasn't like they were just running around wild. It looked like a concerted effort when we switched from attacking down the right for a long time then we switched attacking down the left. It was like everybody shifted
[00:16:09] and it was obviously focused in that was part of the game plan. I got to say personally I I think all players need to be highlighted for that match every single one sub starters I think was a great performance but at the end of the
[00:16:23] day I think you know biggest clotted to Ben Peerman. I think he's really flexing his muscles here in terms of like his tactical prowess when it comes to he knew what Miami was going to do. He even knew how they were going to switch to counter battery
[00:16:40] and said you know what I'm going to counter your counter and I'm going to slam you against the wall and we're going to do what's going to happen. It was it seemed like a street fight for the first 15 minutes and it seems like Miami just wanted to get
[00:16:50] home. And then towards the end of the match we threw out some reflexes a little bit there and threw out a young man did we not. Yeah that was I think I have a very you know interesting opinion to that. I think that was in the nicest
[00:17:06] way possible just so disrespectful but it was disrespectful in the sense of like we're too new up. You can't get the ball. Let's let the kids have a go. He was actually in the box and he was working hard and he was defending well.
[00:17:24] For the couple minutes he was out there he looked like looks a little nervous but you expect that and it's good to get young players out there to get some time in. And can I just say on a personal note to make myself
[00:17:37] you know I'd like to think that like I'm making real strife in the industry. He is four years younger than me to the day to the January 14th 2007 to the day four years younger than me so to watch that step out onto the pitch I will say
[00:17:52] hurt my pride just a little bit just just a little bit just a little bit. I think he's going to be a fantastic player for us and especially if we start hopefully players for our MLB or MLS is looking at some of our players and when they start
[00:18:05] moving out we have people to fill in their spots and hopefully he's one of them. Absolutely. Torres he comes out there and like I said he's moving around both sides he's getting I don't know how many shots he's had off the woodwork but he's taking shots at least
[00:18:23] he's shooting and he had at least one of them that I thought was going in a beautiful shot it comes off the woodwork you just see him just I don't say he deflated but it was like man what do I have to do to get in there.
[00:18:36] I don't say yeah motivated would be the word that I would use when you look at how he's performed this year it kind of been I think just a massive question mark and it's not a bad question mark maybe an asterisk would be the proper
[00:18:49] term because you look at him and when you watch him he passes all the eye tests that you want for a winger you can kind of use both feet he's fast and dribble you can you know operate in tight spaces can make runs in
[00:19:00] behind but then you sit there and you go why don't you have the stabs to back this up why are you getting those gold contribution and honestly why are you the first person in the attack that I would personally want to drop when at the same point he
[00:19:15] might be the first name on the team sheet from just a flair standpoint though it's it's he he's been very unlucky this year. I hate to say people have bad luck or good luck but literally I don't know how to count how many times he put off
[00:19:29] the woodwork it wasn't like just nicking it it's like smacking at thing. The referee should have probably went out there and rechecked that the goal post makes sure they were in right. No I agree and I think another thing to give him you know absolute
[00:19:44] to me this is this biggest trade it's it's again working hard because you know when you look at the shots that he's attempted throughout the whole season you know look only one goal to assist but he just he's backing his ability and I think the other big
[00:19:57] thing to point out he is a left footer in this system they would want to play that type of player on the right but if for can it just just kind of said hey this is my spot you can go anywhere else and then the next
[00:20:15] position you put him into the time but with the cause and Rodriguez there you that not that position full which has pitch rolling to the left. These scares other teams because you have to cover because he's dangerous and even though he's not putting it in the back of
[00:20:30] the net like he should bad luck is prohibiting him but he is he's dangerous so the teams have to count for which I think adds to our what we're able to do. The other cool thing and I forgot should have mentioned this earlier was granny
[00:20:42] he has at least or is he a he's a eight I think eight eight this season. And he's just been he's been having a great season and especially to you got to remember granny was out four or five games for us in the middle of the season
[00:20:58] following the Birmingham extra time exit. So for him to come back into this you know season and continue to continue where he left off and not only you know taking a direct kick to the face and having your face messed up but as a keeper that kind
[00:21:15] of slows you down a bit you're not as eager to go for the ball to go face first diving Superman style for the ball and that's exactly what he did in the next game. So you know seeing him back on the field always
[00:21:28] is a great addition to our team especially with this distribution skills. It's a great addition and you know I think he had what one or two saves so not a whole lot of work against Miami but then we continue forward. Not to say that granny didn't
[00:21:44] have a whole lot to do in that game you know because of the one save or two saves but as a keeper you still have a job to do and you're acting as you're the 11th man on the field you're a sweeper at that
[00:21:54] point if your whole team is pressed up you're a sweeper you're not staying in your goal box you're outside of your goal box up the field pressing with your team. Yeah I think to back up the point about him being a sweeper look at his passing step
[00:22:10] from that match he had five out of five accurate long balls and 18 out of 19 accurate passes. So it's like when you look I think what Gris he he's a great goalkeeper but what I actually think his biggest asset this battery side is and why that number one spot
[00:22:26] is on block and along these here is he makes up for the flaws of our two center backs which is accurate long ball that is one of his biggest abilities. The way that we can create a deck he's our Edison. He is he is and I'm
[00:22:43] actually quite surprised sorry granted but I'm actually quite surprised by the moment he gets the ball in the back like when we're passing the ball to Grinny in the back and he's up by the 18-yard box or past or outside of the 18-yard box teams don't press him
[00:22:59] and I think that's a mistake right there. If you don't press him let him take the touch he's going to find the person they hit it to and he has done that. You look at his stat sheets and he seems to hit the mark on us every time
[00:23:11] and it's like Edison because what does teams when they play against Man City do they sit in they let Edison continue to dribble the ball up the field ping it from midfield into the goalie box. And I think we're going to see a few chances like that
[00:23:25] coming soon with Grinny with how how we're playing. I'm excited. I want to see him getting assist. I also think when you if I think it is this is a possibility I mean Golden Glove is pretty much secured at this point. But I think when you look at
[00:23:41] teams are now they've been doing it this whole season but it's definitely on the latter stages a lot more evident they are changing their tactical approach to get a result against the battery home or away because that can define a month when you look
[00:23:55] at a calendar month playing the battery and getting results like we did now this will carry us and motivate us on to the next even if it's a draw. And when I look at Chris I think teams are going to start pressing him. I think whether it's this
[00:24:10] season whether it's in the off season or come into next year they will press him. And here's the thing. Every time he's pressed he says all right I won't hit it long this time I'll pass it nice and short. And it's again you look at
[00:24:23] that experience in being 32 the football IQ on him is through the roof. He's going to make the right decision. So I think press him if you want sit back if you want he'll find you. Now I absolutely agree with everything that Matt said and that's the thing that
[00:24:41] you know we encourage and that I try to create with these younger goalkeepers and establishing early it's with their foot skills you know being a keeper is not all about your hands it is still your footwork but it's also the mindset and soccer IQ of your decision making.
[00:25:01] And that's another reason why I can tell you for a fact Grinney has that spot over Kuzma right now it's just simple decision making when you get put under pressure what is your next what is your reaction and what is your next result of that.
[00:25:15] And you see Grinney right when he gets into like three or four shots in a row he gets up. He already knows where he's going Kuzma you see him during the Atlanta game. He got very frustrated at two or three times and didn't know
[00:25:27] where to go with the ball because he just just didn't know. And that's fine too but you know that's why you want your guy number one he knows exactly where that ball is going every time if he doesn't he's going to find out where it's going.
[00:25:40] And that's good for Kuz also because that way he can he can watch what Grinney is doing and learn from somebody who's got a lot more experience and has that soccer IQ that he's still learning. I actually have a quick question for you. Oh yeah what's that.
[00:25:55] So in regards to the can so this this is something that caught me off guard and this could just be my lack of later stage playing in terms of you know having a real career as a goalkeeper past the age of 10. But a lot of the clubs
[00:26:09] that I've worked with especially in London they do striker training for their goalkeepers in the academy. Is that something that you've seen how do you how do you feel about that. So I do see a lot of the striker academies and with the keeper so with my
[00:26:28] keepers currently I have four keepers on my team. And you're thinking oh four keepers you know you got a lot of players sitting your bench well I don't I play two keepers two keepers stress per game the other two keepers dressed as field players and they're either
[00:26:43] playing up top or the playing outside back because you need to know how to defend as a keeper because it keeps your feet at a shoulder with stance and it keeps yourself grounded and lower to the ground. You know how to track back on your back pedaling.
[00:26:55] But then when you go up top you're going to know how to shoot the best out of everybody on the team because you're the one constantly and this is the thing that people get confused by goalkeepers are the best when it comes to shooting because we are the
[00:27:07] most accurate out of anybody because yes we're warming up our keepers and we can do all that stuff but we also know how to not kick the ball over the net every time because we don't want to chase it every time we're warming him up.
[00:27:20] So we know exactly where to place it we know exactly where to go and we also know by practicing every single day with our teammates on the best places for the ball. I love that. I think that that's pretty much the exact answer I was
[00:27:36] expecting us because when I recently I did a coaching camp through Arsenal up in Raleigh and when we had we have a lot of keepers we had about eight of them. We ended up you know on the suggestion of the Academy representative from Arsenal was there.
[00:27:52] We put them all on the team and we ended up doing a V8 with one team being all out field with a field person in goal and all goalkeepers. I'll let you know the re of the best goal that were scored that entire week were
[00:28:05] from the goalkeeper when they were playing up top. It was honestly one of the best moments that I've seen as a coach. It was just so fun. Yeah. And and too when you're playing up front you you have a sense of where you should be
[00:28:19] because you're you sit back at your 18-yard box for so long and in your head because no one else can really hear you if you're thinking your head or just kind of talking to yourself unless you're starting to yell but you're thinking to this kid like man if
[00:28:33] you're just two steps over you would be perfect for that ball or man if you're just right here right here and then you finally get your chance. You're going to be in the right spot and then it shocks everybody like how did that guy know to be there.
[00:28:43] It's like I've been watching this kid being the wrong spot for the last six years or something like that. Yeah so it is fun to watch so that's how you first I will let the comment go that when nobody else is around when you're talking to
[00:28:56] yourself only you can hear yourself. I think that's what you said but anyways I think it's keepers are special. But keepers have the best view of the whole pitch of the whole game generally within a defense and attack because I guess everybody's in front of them hopefully
[00:29:11] everybody's in front of them. And so that's a great observation. I don't know if I think I don't know I could be really biased here but being a center back I always thought that I had a great view because I can again I can't
[00:29:25] see everything so I can't see myself but I just like being able to progress into midfield too as a center back but that's neither you nor there. Yeah and every position has their own different viewpoints and the reason why the keeper would be over top the center
[00:29:38] back is because I'm still telling you where the player is running in behind you. That's the only thing I have over top of you. But other than that yeah we have the exact same exact same relationship. It's just yeah me telling you hey the guys on your
[00:29:51] back shoulder running in center backs and we have a great center back pairing and we also have Palmer but he's he's got a little bit of injury going on what are your thoughts on our center back pairing Matt I mean not to be too harsh
[00:30:10] because I think I think I say a lot of things that would make me come across as the batteries number one hater for a lot of their players just because I am very judgmental but I think that's just for me because I feel the battery deserves the best
[00:30:24] and when I look at those two center backs I think all three of them are similar placed house. I think they're all the same type of defender and you're not saying that they can't improve or they're not doing what they're supposed to be doing but when
[00:30:45] you have three of the same that three likes doing the same thing it's not necessarily progressive like we'd like to like to see like we watch and I go back to Arsenal watching Gabrielle and Saliba two totally different defenders and they both have a role
[00:31:02] and they both compliment each other. Absolutely I think when you look at you know I'll even go to then the premier example in the world can talk about Ruben Diaz and John Stone. Ruben Diaz is the bruiser and yes he does have a great passing ability but John
[00:31:17] Stones is the one who can really carry the ball step into midfield. I'll then jump up to another team that everyone do go look at Real Madrid there when they're starting center backs usually Rudeger and Alaba and Alaba I mean he played as a midfielder progressed to
[00:31:32] left back and now playing as a better back which beats his quality but again we have the person is great on the ball and we have the bruiser and I think when you look at the battery we have three players who for their qualities as a bruiser they're
[00:31:46] fantastic on the ball. We don't have that progressive sense. Yeah and we talked earlier about you know the long balls coming off of Smith and a little bit off of Leland and we both love them to death but they're the percentage of connecting is
[00:32:00] lower than what we would expect or what we'd hope from center backs. Well absolutely because you talk about you know we just spoke a good bit talking about Grimus and you know rightfully so because this season has been a great performance by him it's his best season professionally
[00:32:15] but again one of the reasons it's made even more impressed by the fact that there's a real big argument to be made that you know I've heard a lot of fans say that the reason why Grimus is having this season is because
[00:32:29] of the defense and I hear you but I actually want to counter maybe the reason why the defense is having this these those just a Grimus maybe he's the one that make Leland Archer look like a good passer because let's take our you know
[00:32:43] let's take a memory down trip down memory lane real quick. He wasn't a good passer when he first signed for us and I know he's been here for I believe eight years but he only learned how to be a good passer two years ago
[00:32:56] and I know it comes with experience but what else happened in the past couple of you we have a new head coach and we have new tactics so is that a highlight of the player or just a coach getting the best out of the player I'm going to
[00:33:09] leave that up to you. Well if you leave it up to me then I think that's great coaching and great mentorship and learning ability and teachability and coachability of Leland and all that makes together makes great players. Absolutely I think if anything
[00:33:28] what I'm trying to say is a testament to you know I'll put Paul in a subcategory for now just you know this season has been riddled with injuries but when you look at archery mid they mean like these are two guys that should not be playing long ball.
[00:33:42] They don't have that ability in their locker and they are they're being asked of that and again it is close to if not sub 50 percent for the whole season for both of them but again we're talking about guys that this isn't what they do and they're doing it.
[00:33:57] So I consider all day and be critical and say you know archery I need I needed to be closer to 60 70 percent because that's why I expected top quality center back to be and Smith you know if we have the Barusa doing 60 70 then you need
[00:34:09] to be you know if you're going to be hitting more passes than fine you can be 50 60 but then those 50 60 really have to be line breaking passes. But I'm going to sit back and I'm just going to you know quick round of applause to both of
[00:34:20] them and say that Grinwitz and that partnership with archery Smith that defensive triangle is by far the best in the USL. Oh absolutely and then I think next time we're going to talk a little more you're not going to get into the parry
[00:34:34] in front of them because I think it goes beyond just that triangle when you add in the layer that's patrolling in front of them that Aaron Malloy and Chris they're patrolling up there and doing a fantastic job in that kind of double pivot.
[00:34:47] But we've went a long time we've talked about this game we talked about a little bit the pride time for us to go. I'm nursing the cold and trying to trying to help it heal with a little bit of Edmunds those brewing companies rather
[00:35:00] jack it some you know that's what I did and thanks for showing up and we're going to talk some more Matt and I think our next match is Wednesday at 11 a.m. Kickoff somewhere off Loudoun County. So let's quickly talk about you have any thoughts on the
[00:35:20] match on Wednesday. Yeah I think you know given it's weird time praying it might not be worth doing a full dedicated pod to so we might have to alter the schedule coming up. But when I look at it this is a match that if the battery
[00:35:36] want to stamp their form they need to have an away win. And I think when you look at this loon cider I don't see a single weapon that says they can stop the battery here. Their best player by a landslide is guy by the name of Florian Vellute.
[00:35:54] He he he he he's good he's the right winger from France older different profile what the battery has on the wing and I think that actually suits us very well because we're a lot more pacing than they are and I think we're going to be able
[00:36:07] to hit them on the counter. Yes they got two goals against two nil against Tampa and three nil against Hartford and then the match before that was Miami. Yeah which I mean look my soft spot for Miami can be flexed a little bit here.
[00:36:27] Look as as really awful as the season has been they two draws and two wins and one of those very telling draws against Luton. So I think you know when I wish this this side look if we put two against Miami and they couldn't
[00:36:43] put any against us then maybe from that logic it's going to be a nice little three one. Yeah that makes sense and they deserve a goal. The coach will let them get a goal because our coach is such a good coach and player. Absolute.
[00:36:59] So let's draw this down we will talk to you after the match and I think that's all I have. Yeah it feels good to be back y'all looking forward to the next one.
