Join the Cannon Crรผe for a discussion about the 3-2 the Charleston Battery victory over Louisville City FC at Patriots Point on April 9 and looking forward to another away match with Indy Eleven on the 13th. In Episode 6, the Crรผe takes a quick look at how our midfield trio Ycaza, Molloy, and Allan, matched up against LouCity's middies and a comparison between the Doctor, a/k/a MD Myers, and his counter part. The stats don't lie. Nick! Nick! Nick for the brace!
[00:00:00] Welcome to Cannon Crue, a weekly podcast discussing the Charleston battery. Your host granite will
[00:00:23] be joined by other defenders of the fleet from the Black and Yellow Supporters section,
[00:00:27] and together they will help cordify and conquer the Cannon Crue.
[00:00:35] Welcome to the Cannon Crue podcast, I'm granite and I'm joined by Ryan.
[00:00:39] Hey what's going on? And Patrick, it's up everybody.
[00:00:45] Hey we're here to discuss the Charleston battery and recent matches and what's going on in the future.
[00:00:50] But first we all played Saturday, Tuesday and we're back at it again this Saturday.
[00:00:58] So what's y'all been doing in your off time? Just trying to stay on that soccer grind.
[00:01:03] Yeah I'm taking a little breather mainly today and tomorrow and just watching a little masters,
[00:01:09] a little relaxation, little golf therapy. A little golf therapy there in Augusta.
[00:01:15] So let's talk about Tuesday's match against Lou City.
[00:01:20] The atmosphere, free game, at Patriots Point was just freaking awesome.
[00:01:27] I started out, I got there a little early and visited with the regiment, had a couple of pints
[00:01:33] and it just kept building and building and building and more people kept showing up and then before we
[00:01:39] know it, we had I think the attendance numbers were 4,465 people in attendance to watch a Tuesday match.
[00:01:49] How big is that Ryan?
[00:01:52] I mean at this big as you can get it, we had one whole section sold out along with the supporters
[00:01:58] section. This is what we've been asking for, this is even bigger than our home opener and again,
[00:02:04] it's a Tuesday night in Charleston. What more could you ask for from our community? We had all
[00:02:11] sorts of youth players from all sorts of teams, all across Charleston area there out supporting us
[00:02:17] and it was great having everybody out there.
[00:02:20] Patrick, you and I hung out pre-match and then throughout the match Ryan was off with his
[00:02:25] significant other and her parents and just having a good time. We'd see him every once
[00:02:29] while on the way to Adam and at the end of the match we saw each other like 20 feet away but they
[00:02:33] were having a good time. You have to talk about the weather, amazing Tuesday night game, perfect,
[00:02:40] not too warm, not too cold, the drums are banging you can hear them getting people riled up ready to go.
[00:02:47] The tunnel as always standing there packed crowded, a little intimidating for the opposition I would think
[00:02:55] but it has to be pretty empowering for the home fans and the home team just being there at the massive
[00:03:01] amount of support cheering them on clapping them out onto the field. There's a great atmosphere,
[00:03:06] pre-match going into it. So let's move on into some lineup changes. Archer come on and
[00:03:13] Ally come on and that was a change from last match where it appears that Archer was replacing Palma
[00:03:20] and Gutierrez wasn't starting but it doesn't seem like a one-to-one swap for Ally.
[00:03:25] Ally coming in for Gutierrez what we did was I thought it was quite smart. Take Tora Osu who played
[00:03:33] in that previous camp's position and you slide him back out wide to the left side.
[00:03:38] Slidey cause up to now that camp position and you let Ally and Plain his natural position next
[00:03:44] to Malo in the midfield they executed that quite well and going forward on the attack I thought was
[00:03:51] as Pat said it before and he'll say it again tonight is probably one of our best midfields
[00:03:57] wheat pad all season. Yeah it was a great selection it seemed like coach Pyraman was moving things
[00:04:02] around just a touch trying to perfect it we're going up against Lou City who was top of the table
[00:04:08] and had come into meet us with four wins no losses and so we were tweaking just a little bit
[00:04:14] coming off road island and it seems like those little adjustments seem to work Pat. Yeah I mean
[00:04:21] I think we all agree this is one of our strongest selections that we've seen so far just with the
[00:04:27] amount of one two touches touch play where people are overlapping someone's filling their space
[00:04:33] someone's creating a little more space but not only moving forward but offensively the midfielders
[00:04:39] really stepped up for each other and already covering a space as a supporting role so when we did
[00:04:46] accidentally lose the ball they were already there to try and win it back so really wasn't any time
[00:04:52] lost or space lost or positioning lost it was someone mainly Alan and Maloie covering that which I
[00:04:58] think is our two best center options midfield because they just play everywhere it's it's almost
[00:05:05] like you have an extra guy on the field it's those two. Now I can't remember if we've ever played
[00:05:12] Emilio, Maloie and Alan all three at the same time seemed like he cause I was coming on for Alan
[00:05:19] for a couple matches but I think this is the first time we had all three of them on the pitch at the same
[00:05:24] time. Yeah it maybe it's just hitting Torres is now really comfortable on that wing role
[00:05:31] and having the support of Alan and Maloie behind him that he caused it can kind of shine in that
[00:05:38] free roam cam position and just support our three main attack threats up there I mean
[00:05:46] we were at 11 shots last game and it kind of looked shaky but this game really stepped it back
[00:05:51] to what we've seen for most seasons so 20 20 shots total nine on target a lot of opportunity
[00:06:00] and not a lot given up for the opposition. Are you even our backline was playing really high
[00:06:07] on press for the entire first half trying to keep that off side line almost at the midfield point.
[00:06:13] So we brought in our captain Archer, Palma went off and it seemed like that that center back
[00:06:21] pairing seemed to work really well at stopping a lot of their attacks. We'll talk a little bit later
[00:06:28] but their only really offensive attacks were from set pieces from corner kicks so the rest of the
[00:06:32] match that appeared or backs were doing their job. Yeah it really just looked like
[00:06:39] it was a lack of concentration on the corner kicks I mean nothing more than that can single anyone out
[00:06:47] the first goal was so early on that I think we really were just looking over our shoulders
[00:06:51] at the box as opposed to get your position step up. I mean Archer was more of a free roam role he
[00:06:59] was marking a spot and not told to mark an actual man which I think that suits him being so tall
[00:07:05] to get to the ball before it grinned with can get there but I don't know Ryan did you see anything
[00:07:10] different on their goals? Now as a goalie I train my keepers with this as well you always have a guy
[00:07:19] on one of your posts it shows the keepers preference on which post to have that one player on.
[00:07:24] You always have a guy in front of your six yard box and then you have your big center back
[00:07:30] marking right you top of your six yard box and that's exactly how Charleston had it set up
[00:07:34] I wouldn't have changed anything it's just unfortunate that you just had a cause against two
[00:07:38] giants in the back post you got the goal in I just have to applaud our response again it's just the fact
[00:07:46] of having the city of Charleston there that night just having it so loud the way the fans
[00:07:54] cheered and wanted us to get right back into it and have that immediate response not just once
[00:08:00] this season twice now we've shown us now twice where we have gone down in a game and we've
[00:08:05] immediately responded so we have now only been down I think a total of six minutes this season
[00:08:11] and across two games where we've gone down in and it's pretty pretty awesome right there
[00:08:17] to have that type of immediate effect into the game. So let's talk about the goals Nick had to brace
[00:08:24] right? First goal was kind of interesting we're in the box and a shot Rick Shay and MD cleaned it up
[00:08:33] yeah me he did all the legwork on the play begin with with the hold up shielding off two defenders
[00:08:40] and then had the wherewithal to just lay it back to the guy who had the better option
[00:08:45] but then from there he didn't stop work he seemed to just spin red is that shot's hit
[00:08:50] and get that rebound for a near post goal with the goalie very tight on it so the clever finish
[00:08:57] I'm just going to say it again MD is my guy he's having an electric year he is a player who's
[00:09:06] constantly giving 100% and you can even see it in the training videos and everything the amount
[00:09:11] of effort he puts into everything will drill he takes everything so seriously and it comes on
[00:09:16] right onto the field you can see how it translates I'm going to get his jersey at the end of the season
[00:09:22] I don't go out and get a signed jersey by him MD beware you might be mugged by Ryan
[00:09:28] I'm getting a game jersey he's got to hand that to me gladly I'm glad the doctor because that
[00:09:33] that finish was very clinical uh Lucidie was everybody had their hands up because they felt like
[00:09:37] he was offside but he was clearly onside and he just he isn't a right place made sure he stayed
[00:09:43] onside and put it in the bottom corner and Lucidie didn't even have a response
[00:09:48] and that's his second one this season as well we're the last one he scored against Miami it looked
[00:09:53] like he was offside as well they hadn't called that one in effort he's putting in constantly it show him
[00:10:01] we didn't have to wait long for the battery to go into the lead because
[00:10:06] archer won a penalty off the corner kick and no one else is going to step up to that penalty spot
[00:10:14] except no for your kids after listening if you're a defensive back keep your damn hands down
[00:10:20] because that's exactly what was a handball the guy had his hand up way above his head and it was just
[00:10:25] silly you know I hopefully coaches they're coaching centerbacks go keep your damn hands down
[00:10:31] so but we'll take it right so next steps up Ryan take it from here clinical finish he'd look
[00:10:37] the keeper off to the left side keeper doves he already knew what he was going and Nick just placed
[00:10:42] there right down the middle it's a clinical finish smart play I think this is where the homework comes
[00:10:48] in right you kind of coaches assistant coaches tell you you're the guy is taking on the penalty
[00:10:54] this keeper likes to dive to his right just don't go to his right so I think it's something that's
[00:11:01] a little forgotten because when you're on that penalty spot before your home crowd and you just want
[00:11:07] to get the lead back nerves can be in there but this guy is so damn cold ice and his veins
[00:11:15] nothing bothers him this was what fourth goal that season this pen and then a brilliant goal by Nick
[00:11:21] to get his fifth Patrick you and I are walking them to the other end with the bar was down there
[00:11:26] and we heard it going on all I saw was this rocket ripple the back of the net and people just went
[00:11:34] crazy and watching it back it was it was an outstanding shot he was coming across I think he was
[00:11:41] traversing to his left and put it across the four post right you have a good view of it I think I
[00:11:47] had one of the best views honestly I was up in the behind our own goal at the time and I was
[00:11:55] up in the stands from the way I could see it the moment Nick got the ball he was going to
[00:11:59] shoot it with his left foot I was already standing up and I screamed so loud everyone around me
[00:12:05] still didn't realize it because the ball wasn't in the back of the net yet and I just knew it was
[00:12:09] going to back the net and then everyone screams and jumps up and celebrates so I just looked like
[00:12:14] that Leonid take screaming before everybody I mean he's showing us how to score a goal I think in
[00:12:19] every single way possible we were all expecting his head to be the most lethal this season he's doing
[00:12:25] it from the penalty spot he's now testing the ball down and half-balling them into the corner
[00:12:33] well hey what can't this guy do I might I need to call him maybe he'll do my taxes for me
[00:12:38] so we'll have a doctorate in an accountant on the team for us so it was another PK yeah I mean
[00:12:44] this whole play started with he caused on the back post again attacking it and digga the head
[00:12:52] to the ball but the keeper came out totally like he didn't Mike Tyson his head but he definitely
[00:12:58] made contact with his fist right so enough to award the penalty even though we did get contact
[00:13:03] the ball I changed it up Maloy I think he deserves to take one from the spot he's man in the match
[00:13:10] in some of our eyes for about half the season now most of the games but he didn't I think he didn't
[00:13:17] watch Nick's penalty because he goes left keeper goes left it's a great save because it is to the
[00:13:23] bottom corner which is probably the hardest one to save and then the follow-up is just they keeper makes
[00:13:28] another amazing play on this so maybe he was trying to keep Louisville in this but a little too late
[00:13:35] so disappointed we didn't get it but I'm happy we're getting these chances and attacking the ball
[00:13:42] at least get and all the in the first place yeah I think it was a clear pen and on the backside by
[00:13:49] causa and he's a great job by winning it now when it comes to Maloy taking is a great shout on
[00:13:56] switching it up Maloy definitely deserved to take it you could instantly see on his face as
[00:14:02] it was taken he wanted it back now as a coach you may not want to give him the next penalty kick
[00:14:10] and if he doesn't get to take the next penalty kick as a teammate I would want to give it back to him
[00:14:15] because you know as a teammate he's got to bury the next one and that's going to boost the team's
[00:14:19] confidence right there because everyone's going to be back on the same page he just I think
[00:14:24] you just miss hit it and he the keeper it goes to that side and he missed hit it because it looked
[00:14:29] like he was trying to go top up high a pie middle it did it looked like it wasn't the best pen taken
[00:14:36] does that keeper always go to the right I know he seems like a jackass in front of us he was
[00:14:42] seem like a jackass and we'll talk about him face planting later on but it seems like he all
[00:14:48] those two times he went to the right and just unlucky yeah I mean if Nick took it I think we have
[00:14:54] confidence he would have scored his sixth goal and that would have been on his 19 shot of the season so
[00:15:00] pretty good tally there five in 18 so far so I guess he's just trying to spread the wealth a
[00:15:07] little bit yeah so post match I heard from other coaches that this was a game of two halves
[00:15:14] and I don't know where the loose city coach was watching but it seemed like it was it was two
[00:15:19] halves and both halves were by the battery to just you know set pieces that we were not turned on
[00:15:27] locked in 100 percent for both of them goals coming but the rest of it was all all battery
[00:15:34] the second half we just kind of set back a little bit and absorb their attacks and
[00:15:38] we'll talk here in a second about looking at how our Ford MD compared with Wilson Harris who is all
[00:15:46] the everybody's a god about him and his ability to score a couple goals on easy teams
[00:15:52] and let's talk about our midfield so Ryan what do you think about the overall was it a game of two
[00:15:56] two halves or was it just battery the whole time I think it was battery the whole time I think
[00:16:02] the the story of two halves it's just people trying to make themselves feel better at the end of the day
[00:16:08] you know first half three one what are you going to do in the second half you can still continue
[00:16:14] to press and push the a throw them through or you can ease up just take it in and rest your players
[00:16:21] a little bit more and just try to dink it in behind that's what the battery did yes we did lose the
[00:16:26] second half one to zero but we still maintain the pressure we still was at them the entire time
[00:16:32] and we continue but neither goal was from open play is from a set piece yeah it's from a set piece
[00:16:39] and you know end of the day still win I pulled up look at some of the stats about the midfield
[00:16:47] and I'm looking at Emilio Molo and Alan versus Mogul the villa and Toronto so passing
[00:16:56] Emilio had 33 passes voice 76 Alan 35
[00:17:02] Lucidie it was 16 54 33 when you start looking at percentages
[00:17:10] Emilio 78.8 Molo was 78.9 Alan 77.1 you look at Lucidie 62 79 63 even more critical I believe passes
[00:17:22] in the opposition half Emilio 83% Luis 61% Alan 76% Lucidie 54 81 53 or passing much better and
[00:17:37] we're controlling the ball I think that story of two halves is kind of like he said Ryan was
[00:17:43] trying to build something out of nothing yeah I mean we're we're big Eastern rivals you know we
[00:17:48] knocked this team out in the semifinals last year we stopped them from getting to the finals
[00:17:52] of course they're gonna say some stuff when they come into our home and they lose when they're
[00:17:57] on opening the season for zero top of the league that left a bitter taste in their mouth they
[00:18:03] wanted this game so badly yeah Brad I think you're missing one more step out of these guys and that's
[00:18:12] three of the battery players were 10 chances created compared to one for Louisville and I think
[00:18:18] that's all you really need to look at right there doesn't matter game of two halves this or the
[00:18:25] who made more chances who took those chances we did we move on with the win and we remain under
[00:18:30] the season oh absolutely and let's look at the art person of and reason why I'm
[00:18:36] harping on Harris because there's so much press on him and how well he's doing and how well
[00:18:42] he's starting out the season but let's look at MD versus Wilson Harris right pretty identical
[00:18:50] on a lot of their stats except for shots and target MD three Wilson won
[00:18:57] chances created by MD three Wilson zero fouls one MD three Wilson won fouls conceded MD zero
[00:19:09] three conceded by Harris and then at most amazing stat because we're talking about MD is a forward
[00:19:15] passing accuracy MD is 77% in Wilson's at 45 that's a big desperate numbers between the two
[00:19:25] and just I think it really goes to show how much MD not just scoring goals but also how much he adds
[00:19:30] to the attack yeah he's putting him work all over the place and he got a goal off of this passing
[00:19:38] accuracy if he doesn't lay that ball off and he tries to take it on himself maybe the shots block
[00:19:43] maybe it's safe but he makes the right decision and this is so dangerous for an opposition defense to
[00:19:50] think of that hey this tall guy can shield us center backs off may lay it off to someone else
[00:19:56] to have the hit and then he's not done yet he's going to keep going and maybe work to get any
[00:20:02] ricochet so I wouldn't want to be a defense based in MD that's for sure Ryan talk to us about the
[00:20:09] doctor my boy so amazing but again as a defender I wouldn't want to go against them as a keeper I
[00:20:20] wouldn't want to go against them he's a you can say he's a poacher you can say whatever you want
[00:20:25] about him at the end of the day he puts the ball in the back of the net and that's what we need
[00:20:30] for him going forward all he had all he's got to do is just keep doing what he is doing I don't
[00:20:36] think any defenders are really going to have a game plan for him there if they double mark him what
[00:20:41] is that going to do now it's going to create space underneath and it's going to create space in the
[00:20:45] middle more goals are going to get scored we have proven that we have more goal scores on our team
[00:20:51] than just him right because he's not our leading goal score right now on our team yet he's proven
[00:20:56] to be the most lethal on the team because teams are drawn to him because he's so big
[00:21:01] so where does that put us as a team I mean we spread goals across several different players
[00:21:07] how does that how do we apply that to a future matches it's it's a it's hard to
[00:21:14] it's hard to scout us because we're becoming a team that yes we have a small roster yet you don't
[00:21:21] know what kind of look we're going to give you that night because now we've given Louisville a
[00:21:26] completely different look than what we've been playing in our midfield this was probably one of
[00:21:30] our best midfields well we continue maybe not we may change it up again because we can and that's
[00:21:37] the ability that we have with this roster we have so many starters that we can switch around
[00:21:43] and flip into different positions and it's beautiful and we have this magic with with those right
[00:21:49] now and we can continue this streak the unfortunate part is that I'm going to kind of blame USL
[00:21:56] championship a little bit on this one for stiffened charles and battery on a hard schedule right
[00:22:02] out the gate and scheduling us for back to back to back games so we now just played on Saturday
[00:22:09] then played at home on Tuesday now we're back on the road again this Saturday
[00:22:14] so we'll be playing seven games on this upcoming Saturday while the rest of the league is on four
[00:22:20] I think Detroit's on a two week by week right now for after playing four games that'd be nice
[00:22:26] they got tired yeah it must be nice this is because they have to play in the third round of the US open
[00:22:32] it's because they didn't have the around of 32 luxury apparently I don't know so I you know what
[00:22:38] interesting we talked about this before that we have a whole team of starters so who do you replace
[00:22:43] and who do you move around and so good to hear us is fantastic on the ball he is he is really technical
[00:22:48] on the ball he can move it tight spaces and yet we put in Tore as who's good on the ball also but
[00:22:56] just a little bit different player and you can see how much it just changed the dynamic a little bit
[00:23:01] and into our advantage and so it's hard how do you do do you start Tore as every match I don't know
[00:23:07] do you start good to yours every match I don't know do you split time because they're both fantastic
[00:23:12] players they're on the left and they've really done a great job all season so far all I got to
[00:23:18] say is I'm happy I'm not been here right now I'm just happy I'm not making that decision on who
[00:23:23] is starting because that is gotta be one of the hardest jobs right now well the easy selection
[00:23:29] is the Santos on the left and Segbers on the right that's easy because they're just they're just
[00:23:35] ballers and they are just keeping the ball tight in in adding so much to the attack and defense those
[00:23:41] two there's the two I think you don't change out necessarily but everybody else seems like it's
[00:23:47] interchangeable we can move people around it's a luxury to have but maybe Tore is getting these
[00:23:53] two starts in the row it's just giving a good year his little break I mean he's played a lot of
[00:23:59] minutes so far like Ryan Touchdown we've already played six matches and most of the leagues only at four
[00:24:04] so with the smaller man squad you can at least rotate these guys around because they have the
[00:24:11] form that they're still playing in that it's not dropping off we're not seeing a lack of chance
[00:24:15] the seeing a lack of goals we're just seeing consistency no matter who's in there so
[00:24:23] I really think this is probably the best tight knit midfield we've seen where you can take someone
[00:24:28] out and you have confidence in who's coming in to replace him for that match and that he may get
[00:24:33] 60 minutes and we have someone coming on so he can have a rest after 60 and still play the exact
[00:24:39] same way and we're not dropping off at all so it's nice but hopefully these guys can get a little
[00:24:46] bit more of a break seeing how everyone else in the league gets that opportunity except us
[00:24:53] so let's talk about two players that one of them you've been out for a while
[00:24:56] Drak here he was injured but he got some minutes in
[00:25:00] Drak came on as a sub I think it was the 90 second minute you know I played about 98 minutes total so
[00:25:10] I mean we didn't see him since the first week when it looked like potentially a back injury or
[00:25:15] we weren't really sure so still no idea what's going on with him but it's really nice to at least
[00:25:20] see him get some minutes back because that's what you do with it your player give him a little bit
[00:25:25] and a little bit you build him back up but I mean at this rate talked about it touched on it a lot
[00:25:31] those Santos it's played out of its bind so there's a spot to be challenged for but it's not going to
[00:25:36] be given up and I think you're absolutely right it's not going to be a spot that's going to be
[00:25:42] easily given up but you're adding your depth back to your to your squad and that's the importance
[00:25:49] right now with such a tight amount of games coming up and that's the importance of because we
[00:25:56] can have Drak on the other side like if Seagbirds needs to rotate into the middle or it you know if
[00:26:01] we need to make these necessary changes we can we can rotate these guys because I can play
[00:26:06] on the right he doesn't just have to play on the left Seagbirds can slide up into the midfield if
[00:26:10] he wants to I mean you can do a lot with this squad you say Seagbirds gonna play midfield he can
[00:26:18] you kidding me I think Seagbirds would be one of the best CDMs in the league what do you think that
[00:26:24] I think will because the style of play he reminds me okay this maybe a little cliche he reminds
[00:26:29] me of content just the way he plays he is a smaller defender but he will put you out as you'll go
[00:26:38] he'll he'll push you to the side as a as a defender he'll slide you to a side and dictate the way
[00:26:45] the midfield is played but then he'll also continue to press you backwards and the fact that he can
[00:26:52] move the ball all the way and press you backwards is a game changer in the midfield yeah I mean
[00:26:57] I think we have a couple guys that are just maybe not in their final positions I know
[00:27:04] pretty sure Nick when he came into the league was trying to be played as a leftback
[00:27:09] for some dumb reason and you can see he's clearly a striker when he's on the battery because he scores
[00:27:14] left right but I think Seagbirds would be awesome to see in the midfield just with his pace more
[00:27:20] than anything to push the ball wide create a big space that the centerbacks are going to have to
[00:27:27] allow their outside backs to chase and then be one v1 with either Myers or
[00:27:34] LaCava if he's on the field I mean and literally anybody that come done they're gonna have to
[00:27:40] deal with like that Robbie Crawford like anybody is going to be an issue so coach Pyraman if you're
[00:27:46] listening when you get a chance you want to see Seagbirds doing a little midfield action maybe in a
[00:27:53] game that's like eight one or something and try it out for a couple of minutes let's talk about
[00:27:58] Robbie the great scotsman he came in got a couple of minutes is great to see him still playing
[00:28:03] out there and giving it all just all smiles after the match we ended Lilville's four game unbeaten streak
[00:28:11] which was nice to do once again we kind of nice you know so it's good everybody they come
[00:28:18] into this match and you just read in all the press and you hear all these things about how good
[00:28:23] they are and how they're gonna you know we were we were the underdogs dude we don't get any love
[00:28:30] even after last year I think we had a really fight to get some love from the US cell with you
[00:28:35] know the amount of point turnaround we had our coach itself I still think coach Pyraman was robbed
[00:28:40] on coach the year last year and it takes a while for Charles and that you get in the spotlight and
[00:28:46] Louisville you know they've won the league a few times and they're a team that were the first team
[00:28:52] to get on CBS and that was all spotlighted and everything and they continued the hype train
[00:28:58] and they thought they're gonna come into Charleston and win easily
[00:29:02] oh what a game so what's it gonna take for us to earn a little respect do we have to be the
[00:29:08] other four undefeated teams with us we have to beat them and then maybe people will give us a
[00:29:13] little nod I don't care about respect we just keep winning keep winning people will start
[00:29:21] understanding that the batteries are a little more than just some little team in South Carolina
[00:29:27] we've got some players and got some ballers here and we can handle our own against anybody
[00:29:33] let's talk about the importance of this being a nationally televised game
[00:29:40] what does that mean to the battery and what does that mean to not just the battery but the USL
[00:29:45] and totality that all of a sudden were this league this team is ended up on national TV
[00:29:52] I think it's a great spotlight for these guys I have to put Charleston on the map again
[00:29:58] to further the whole country to see and it was a show they put on a show that night
[00:30:05] and what a game it was in the way that had the entire stands packed as we saw it was
[00:30:12] I think you said the numbers was close to 4,500 people that was almost how many we had in the final
[00:30:17] last year had the same stadium the final and it was a Tuesday night on a weekday school night
[00:30:26] it's just it is insane it was insane to see in the atmosphere all about it I felt like I was in
[00:30:31] Germany a little bit in a tier 14 you know just chanting and cheering and screaming our heads off
[00:30:37] it was awesome yeah big uh fortunately for us we get to be at this game so we didn't have to
[00:30:46] sit at home have it on the tally and have fears by ourselves we got to enjoy it with each other
[00:30:53] and seeing it live but even seeing some highlights back like great job the battery
[00:31:00] broadcasting is second and none compared to the rest of league I mean everything's shown we're
[00:31:06] not cutting the replays while open place still going or dangerous things are happening so
[00:31:11] who knows to them on that but yeah I look forward to many more matches coming up whether the
[00:31:16] ESPN or CBS or the Kualazo Network I mean a huge thing for the usl championship
[00:31:24] wait Pat so are you saying that we don't have a GoPro recording our games
[00:31:31] we have a great connection of them to a real camera that can zoom out and and a little bit
[00:31:39] there's no there's no cut ins or zoom ins every time someone touches the ball wide so it's a
[00:31:45] little nice to watch as a fan and we can see the whole pitch we saw near touch line and the far
[00:31:52] touch line we can see it all going through it the only hiccup was Nick's goal from open play if you
[00:31:59] they finally got some replays to where they showed the whole thing when it was live going through
[00:32:04] I think they were kind of a little bit behind so you really couldn't see him strike the ball but
[00:32:09] they corrected it by showing all the replays afterwards there's a fantastic goal well as we all
[00:32:14] are when Nick strikes the ball we're all a little bit behind because we're not expecting to be that
[00:32:19] great every time maybe maybe that's what it was maybe is that electric excitement they
[00:32:24] caused the camera man to just like shutter a little bit because he knew what was about right to happen
[00:32:28] come out to the next home game and you'll see it alive
[00:32:32] yeah we'll put Ryan like in an orange third kit jersey from last year so you can see him and
[00:32:37] you can see him jumping up and down so let's look to this Saturday April 13th 7 p.m. is kickoff
[00:32:44] playing up in Indie against Indie 11 going up against Augie
[00:32:50] what a match this should be I think this is going to be a really good test for the battery on
[00:32:55] the road again and it's a good match for Leland as well to have a former teammate going against him
[00:33:03] and it's a test to Ken our Leland keep him out of keep Augie out of his head
[00:33:10] can they not play mind games and can he just play the game simple and keep Augie in his pocket
[00:33:15] for the night that that's where I'm really looking for out of him and out of the back line
[00:33:20] and it's interesting because Indie when you look at their record they're one three in one
[00:33:26] you know that a loss a win a draw on two losses and they're 10th in the table out of 12 but then
[00:33:32] you look at their schedule so far they lost to Oakland they beat Memphis drew the Sacramento but
[00:33:40] then they had to play Detroit and Lucidie and they lost to both of them so it's not like they're
[00:33:44] playing bottom of the table teams you know the last two matches were top of the table teams unfortunate
[00:33:51] enough they're gonna play again they're gonna play the top of the team again we are top of the
[00:33:56] table right now and we have to play again this week so it will be two to three games ahead of
[00:34:00] everybody I'm sure they're not looking forward to playing us at all and then pretty sure they have
[00:34:06] a turnaround for the US up and Cup on Wednesday right after they get smack down by the battery so
[00:34:13] that's that's a little tough the Indie just had two players transferred in from Miami and I'm
[00:34:19] not gonna try to pronounce her names except for Ben Mines and we saw Ben Mines he subbed on when
[00:34:24] we played Miami at 78 minutes so shout out to Sully and to Ramsey from West Ashley Socker
[00:34:34] Ryan you know a little bit about this they're playing tomorrow night who they're up against tomorrow night
[00:34:40] and at home against Ashley Ridge the current defending state champions in the 5A for South Carolina
[00:34:46] so it's gonna be a great match for us looking to send our home turf and even better at the home turf
[00:34:53] I'll be flipping some burgers for the concession stand for a little bit so if you want to get a burger
[00:34:56] or a dog come on out watch party Edmonds O's brewing company so Ryan you and I spent a little
[00:35:03] time this afternoon Patrick you know Chris from House of Brews in West Ashley big soccer fan there
[00:35:10] we got some batteries tickers up maybe that might be the little place if you can't make it down to Edmonds O's
[00:35:16] match days is stopping there and watch a match yeah love house of Brews
[00:35:24] yeah I love House of Brews one of the favorite places to go to a dog friendly so everyone knows
[00:35:30] that you can have your dogs out in the back two trucks out front yeah also have a quick question
[00:35:35] before we hop off curious with another great game who are you guys picking from your man in the match
[00:35:43] I think we all know where Ryan's going actually I'm gonna go a little different I'll go ahead and
[00:35:48] speak first I'm gonna always speak a little differently MD of course is gonna get an honorable
[00:35:53] mention obviously it's a guy but my man of the match is gonna go to Adam Grinwiss for keeping us in
[00:36:00] the game and having massive saves he had a solid in my head he came up massive on more than one
[00:36:07] occasion about four or five chances two of them got called away either for an off-sides or a
[00:36:13] delayed penalty call but he still made the save and they were just massive in the fact that he made
[00:36:18] them there was one save in about the 20th minute we hit a tip over the bar there's just a pure
[00:36:23] reaction save it was one of the best shots and I was right behind it too to see that was really cool
[00:36:29] I'm gonna go with Emilio he went out there and he hustled and he busted his ass the whole time
[00:36:36] I'm playing that kind of attacking center mid he was in there he took a straight up punch which I think
[00:36:44] boarded on on a sitting off by the keeper there and took it for the team and ended up laying on
[00:36:49] the ground I was really concerned for because he wasn't moving further the couple minutes but
[00:36:53] all the whole match he was just moving pass in the ball you look at his numbers I think he was my
[00:36:57] man of the match all right so I'm gonna go with Maloy for my man of the match overall play amazing
[00:37:05] the link up love it but I think most importantly he's second in the entire championship
[00:37:12] in chances created with 15 I think he's gonna get about four or five more coming up in this game
[00:37:18] but one that speaks to my heart number one in passes hide for one in crosses so this guy is everywhere
[00:37:27] on the field you love to see it and offensive work rate offensive work right you can't stop him
[00:37:34] love it which your guys is match predictions yes two nil two nil the Charleston obviously
[00:37:45] okay I like it like he keep the unbeaten streak four three I like it Pat what do you got
[00:37:51] Rio still battery Rio battery all right I'm gonna go it's just hard to say because the battery
[00:38:03] you want them to continue that run off of the last time we play them at home
[00:38:08] and the playoffs you know five oh we're on a tear right now playing three on Louisville who have
[00:38:13] only allowed two in their last two games I'm gonna go on the edge and say four oh
[00:38:21] with Meyer scoring a goal again because that's my boy okay that about wraps it up for this podcast
[00:38:29] uh remember watch party Evans house brewing company come down there had a great time I've been told
[00:38:34] all the TVs volume everything is gonna be up focused on the battery so me to soul down there
[00:38:41] if you guys got nothing else peace we'll see you Saturday
[00:38:45] see you guys
[00:38:58] you
