Speaker AI am Grant.
Speaker AI am joined by Patrick.
Speaker APatrick, what's up?
Speaker BWhat's going on?
Speaker BLate night.
Speaker AWhat you been doing late night?
Speaker AI know Ryan's been out there carousing, carusing or whatever he's doing.
Speaker ARyan, tell us about your evening's endeavors.
Speaker CGranted, it's great to be here.
Speaker CWon a game tonight against Somerville West Ashley High School.
Speaker CAgainst Somerville?
Speaker CThe big green wave beat them 4 to 0.
Speaker AYou mean the green kind of swell, glassy.
Speaker CBut something like that.
Speaker ANot motivated.
Speaker ASomething like it.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker AThat's what you get for having a turf field.
Speaker ASomerville.
Speaker AThat's what you get for having a turf field play on grass like real men did.
Speaker AOkay, so you got to put your backup keeper in.
Speaker CYep.
Speaker CEveryone got rotated keepers on JV as well, so it's always good to rotate them out and having them get minutes, too, so it's nice.
Speaker ASo, Patrick, you are abstaining from beer or just all alcohol in general?
Speaker BAll alcohol in general, except for Tuesday, will be an exception, obviously.
Speaker AObviously.
Speaker AWhy is Tuesday going to be an exception?
Speaker BIt's like, I don't know, the biggest game of the year.
Speaker BJust have to go and destroy PSG at home in London.
Speaker BPsg, who is not going to win the league as an undefeated team because they just lost.
Speaker BSo current losing streak about to be extended.
Speaker ASmackdown coming for them.
Speaker ASmackdown.
Speaker AJoin us at Edmonds O Brewing Company for Charal.
Speaker AIf you're wearing other team's colors or any other team's colors, stay home.
Speaker BSound advice.
Speaker ASo let's talk about the Battery and the most recent match against the Indy 11.
Speaker AIs that what they're called?
Speaker CYep, because they.
Speaker AIt's kind of like a limp 11 because they're my.
Speaker AMy thought of the whole match is what a defense.
Speaker ATalk about people just walking and they're only like six games in, seven games in, and are already walking.
Speaker AIt's gonna be a long season for them.
Speaker ARyan, what'd you think of the match?
Speaker CWell, that's what kind of frustrated me in the beginning was that I was looking at this.
Speaker CI was thinking maybe moments before going to the match, that man.
Speaker CIs Indy going to be a surprise team that's going to give us a run for our money and cost us three points early.
Speaker CLooking at their previous results, draw against North Carolina, they did Pick up a win.
Speaker CAnd I was like, is this going to be a sneaky team?
Speaker CMD comes right in, puts two away early.
Speaker AAnd we're not talking about that yet.
Speaker BStop.
Speaker AJust your general thoughts.
Speaker CI know.
Speaker AWell, we will examine the doctor in a minute, but okay, since.
Speaker ASince Ryan can't help himself but to go on about his man crush with MD Patrick, what was your general thoughts on the match?
Speaker BThat was good.
Speaker BI thought we had.
Speaker BWe just built off our last FC Tormenta win, and I thought we continued our dominating play and getting a lot of guys involved that needed to continue the form and kind of get this pace going so we can start building a winning streak here and get ready to bring it back home.
Speaker BSo I thought the boys went out, did a great job, and finished what they needed.
Speaker BNeeded to do.
Speaker BMove on.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker ASo we started a couple different new.
Speaker ANot new players, but players don't get a whole lot of time.
Speaker ABlackstock and Apocal.
Speaker ANuno and who else on.
Speaker ALaundry's on there.
Speaker AAnd Klein.
Speaker AWas Klein out there?
Speaker BEventually he got on.
Speaker CSorry, I thought he started.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AAnd Arturo was out there for a little bit.
Speaker ASo let's talk about the amazing first eight minutes.
Speaker ARyan.
Speaker AThree, two, one.
Speaker BWhoa, whoa, whoa.
Speaker BHold on, hold on, hold on.
Speaker BGet your hat.
Speaker BGet your hat on.
Speaker CYeah, he.
Speaker BHe can't only talk about one player in this.
Speaker BFor those of you not watching and only listening, there's a very festive Technicolor dreamcoat hat that just went off in Granite's head.
Speaker AIt's.
Speaker AIt's the traditional Colombian farmer's hat that I bought at the.
Speaker AWhat match should we go see, Ryan?
Speaker CColumbia versus Uruguay.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AAnd some really cool dude was selling them out of a box.
Speaker BWould you say traditional or eccentric?
Speaker ATraditional.
Speaker AIt says it in a label on the inside.
Speaker BWell, it must be true.
Speaker AHas to be true.
Speaker ASo let's go back to the appointment we had, and we only had to wait, unlike any other doctors on the face of the earth.
Speaker AWe only had to wait how many minutes, Ryan?
Speaker CI only had to wait four minutes.
Speaker AFour minutes, Man.
Speaker AWhat kind of doctor is this guy?
Speaker COh, he's speeding because he came back with a double after eight.
Speaker ASo let's.
Speaker ALet's talk about his first goal.
Speaker CFirst goal.
Speaker CIn my opinion, it was the setup.
Speaker CIt was an amazing pass.
Speaker CJust chipped it perfectly.
Speaker CWeighted everything about it.
Speaker CGreat vision by Torres to recognize that he had time and space awareness.
Speaker CHe did his quick scan, everyone.
Speaker CThe defense just dropped off and they walked off.
Speaker CAs Pat was saying, you know, earlier, like, already, you know, a Couple minutes in, they were walking.
Speaker CMD just slots it right past the keeper for an amazing goal, right up one zero.
Speaker CAnd I think the build up and play after that the battery didn't let up.
Speaker CThey.
Speaker CThey were goal hungry after that.
Speaker CThey wanted to, to get another one quick.
Speaker AHey, it's, you know, I think it's vital.
Speaker AWe talk about it all the time.
Speaker AGetting that first goal and you get early and you got to do the kill shots, right?
Speaker CI haven't done that this season though, much.
Speaker AYeah, but let's talk about that pass.
Speaker ASo if I remember right, Juan David got it turned and MD had a step and a half or at least two steps on the defender that was.
Speaker AI don't know, I don't know if he was crocheting or his distraction, checking his phone or something like that.
Speaker AAnd just clinically put it in the back of the net.
Speaker AI mean, just nice and relaxed and it was fantastic.
Speaker ASurgically put it back in the net.
Speaker AI don't know what kind of doctor is he?
Speaker AA doctor of philosophy.
Speaker BBalls.
Speaker BBall doctor.
Speaker AA ball doctor.
Speaker AA balls in the back of the net doctor.
Speaker ASo, Ryan, let's talk about the next goal.
Speaker CNext goal is just a, you know, a gift.
Speaker CHonestly.
Speaker CIt's a, it's a worker's goal.
Speaker CIt's a goal that comes from a person who, or a player who does not give up on the play until the ball is out of play, the whistle's blown, or the ball's in the back of the net.
Speaker CAnd that's exactly what MD did here.
Speaker CHe honestly had no right going for it.
Speaker CMost players would have backed off or just said, yeah, it's going out like as it was and gets a touch right to it and puts in the back of the net and makes it 2 0.
Speaker AAnd how do.
Speaker AHow'd that get set up for him?
Speaker CWas it.
Speaker CIt was a.
Speaker CWas it a free kick from Malloy and then Cal hit Patrick?
Speaker ADo you remember?
Speaker BIt was just wing play and kind of, kind of like a cross shot in and did it.
Speaker BI don't, I don't fully remember.
Speaker BI was watching on a phone screen because I was at an Easter weekend at my in laws and hockey, they're a big hockey family and hockey was on the main tv.
Speaker ASo what I remember is that defender tried to clear the ball out, did a real shit job.
Speaker AAnd I think Blackstock or somebody or maybe Leland headed it back and Juan Davies just did this fantastic kind of crossover and that's where we saw the finish in the back.
Speaker AIt was amazing.
Speaker AShit defending again.
Speaker AIt's amazing that every time you look down or looks up or whatever, Juan Davies by himself, so the ball was constantly going to them and I was always working down that right side or down the middle.
Speaker AAnd it's, it's like you would think somebody, somebody would go like, just stand next to him, just stand next to Mark up on, you know, do something.
Speaker ABut you can't leave him there all by himself because he's up to no good.
Speaker CYep.
Speaker AThe other thing I want to point out is fantastic job by md, but what kind of defense, what kind of system were they playing?
Speaker ARyan?
Speaker A3, 4, 3.
Speaker CYep, they're playing a 3, 4.
Speaker CThey're playing a 3, 4, 3.
Speaker CI was looking at this other stat where there was indie players.
Speaker CThere was two who I didn't recognize on this, on the sheet.
Speaker CThey didn't play in the previous league game, but they both made starts again and their back line and then they went to three in the back.
Speaker AYeah, I think I remember right.
Speaker AThere was some, they had some injuries or something like that going on.
Speaker ABut, but anyways, but.
Speaker AAnd that was at about 8:30 when we got that second goal.
Speaker AAnd then we kind of just kind of chilled out for a little bit.
Speaker CYeah, we relaxed, we stayed composed and we, we went for a lot more possession.
Speaker CI felt like just, just knocked the.
Speaker ABall about back up because at one point I forgot.
Speaker ASo Juan David does this great ball into the box and Cal Jennings is there to head it right to the doctor.
Speaker AThat was a fantastic header.
Speaker AAnd he was, I thought he was going to go for a goal, but just his awareness of who was open and who was where in the space right there in front of the net was fantastic.
Speaker CThat was class.
Speaker BOkay, I mean, let me just tack on to that one.
Speaker BI mean he's, he's in great positions and this is what these attacking players around him who are in form create.
Speaker BI mean, we saw it with the last game with Klein, who I believe it was Rodriguez passed the ball to him, who is open in on goal keeper came out on him.
Speaker BHe took the extra pass five yards away to md, who got an open, open goal.
Speaker BSo I, I won't say it's all because of the buildup play because you have to be in those correct positions to put the ball in the back of the net.
Speaker BBut when these guys are being so unselfish and they're dangerous goal scoring threats themselves, it really creates an easier, more open opportunity.
Speaker BAnd we're starting to see it.
Speaker BI mean, this is MD's, what, fifth goal in two games.
Speaker AFifth goal in two games.
Speaker AThat's all right, I guess.
Speaker AI guess.
Speaker AA hat trick and a brace.
Speaker AHe had to have a brace because his knee was a little tired from wearing all the hats.
Speaker ARyan, tell us a little more about MD Tell us more about MD there's something special happened this week.
Speaker AHe was named.
Speaker AWhat?
Speaker CHe was named player of the Week and not just player of the.
Speaker CWell, no.
Speaker COh man.
Speaker CNeed to redo that.
Speaker CBut he was named on the team of the week and he was named player of the week.
Speaker AExactly.
Speaker AHe did.
Speaker AI think he did it once last year and week 17 and then he's week seven and he's already been named once.
Speaker AThat's pretty cool.
Speaker BYeah, I mean it's a guy fighting for his position to be a day in, day out starter and not see the bench again.
Speaker BAnd Mark Hannock isn't here anymore.
Speaker BSo this may be our new consistent player of the month if he keeps playing this way.
Speaker BI mean it's hard to argue with it.
Speaker BNo one else is netting five goals in two games and then maybe eight goals in three games.
Speaker ASo what do you.
Speaker ASo with him and Cal, they're like two different strikers to me and, and I think they complement each other.
Speaker ALike Cal is always moving and cut and really cutting diagonals and and really moving defenders around and MD Is.
Speaker ADoesn't he does the work because he's a hard working son of a.
Speaker ABut he seems like he has different movement in front of the goal, you know, the 18 yard box and out the top of the D.
Speaker AWhat are your thoughts?
Speaker BI think it comes down to the playmaker behind the ball with having Aaron Malloy Torres having this vision to find which one of these two guys is going to be open because as you mentioned Granite.
Speaker BIf Jennings is making these runs and pulling defenders with him, well then you're going to have a Striker 1v1 and MD is a true striker.
Speaker BHe's got this goal scoring presence.
Speaker BHe somehow in these awkward fall downs we saw last year, he still gets the goal and it dribbles pass and like it's amazing.
Speaker BOnly a true striker knows how to find these side netted goals from an off chance.
Speaker BSo we're, we're going to see it with Cal too.
Speaker BMD is going to start getting a little more attention and Cal is going to make these runs and maybe only one guy is going to follow.
Speaker BBut it's nice to have Rodriguez and Torres and Ikaza and Malloy and Klein, all these guys behind the ball who can see these passes.
Speaker BMaybe talked about it week One, they weren't really clicking.
Speaker BNo one really clicked.
Speaker BThey didn't look like a team.
Speaker BI think we're starting to see what they can do and it's going to be really damaging to the league because we're not going to be just winning one nil.
Speaker BWe're going to be winning three, four, five, nil.
Speaker CWell, and then you add the stats too, just to throw a little stat out there, because, Pat, I'm going to say something the you look at Cal Jennings, he's got in six games, he has five goals in usl.
Speaker CThen you look at MD Myers, who was injured in the first beginning bit.
Speaker CHe's got two starts and one sub and he's got three goals already.
Speaker CHe's got his brace against Indy and then he has his goal against Tampa.
Speaker CAnd then you add in his US Open cup where he's got the hat trick.
Speaker CSo he's got six goals across two competitions so far in four games.
Speaker CSix and four.
Speaker CAnd then you got in six games, you have five goals.
Speaker CI mean, that's a great numbers right there.
Speaker CAnd I see Eminem coming back again, you know, I know it's not Eminem.
Speaker CWhat would you call this one?
Speaker BSee mj.
Speaker CWhat would you call this?
Speaker BYou figure it out.
Speaker BYou got it.
Speaker BI believe in you.
Speaker AYou got mj.
Speaker AMj.
Speaker AMj.
Speaker COh my gosh.
Speaker CIt's.
Speaker CIt's ring season.
Speaker ASo let's talk winter.
Speaker AI'm going to say it again.
Speaker AWinter team's going to close down Taurus.
Speaker AYou give him any space and he's putting these wonderful balls in.
Speaker AHe's not, because he's got a range on that foot and the teams keep leaving them open.
Speaker ASo how do you lock him down?
Speaker AHow do you cut off that, that service of that ball in there when Taurus is just like roaming free in the back behind the forwards?
Speaker BI mean, plain and simple, you can't do it when he roams to the central position because that's almost like.
Speaker BIt seems like that's what the battery are trying to do.
Speaker BLike this overloaded center midfield position because no one's just sprinting to go cover Torres's wing spot.
Speaker BI mean, that's going to be open as an outlet ball if we really need it, but it's almost like he goes central and it just sucks defenders to him where it creates these pockets of space.
Speaker BI mean, the one goal, he nutmegs the guy.
Speaker BI mean, that's just talent.
Speaker BYou don't just try it for no reason.
Speaker BLike he, he knew he was going to hit it between his legs, so you can't defend that one.
Speaker BBut two, I think him central is an even better position for him than on the wing.
Speaker BHe's just so deadly, as you said, with the balls he plays and the vision he has.
Speaker BI think, I think he's going to get a lot more assists than goals this year.
Speaker AAnd that's all right.
Speaker AKeep feeding the machines up front.
Speaker ARight now, the person I was, I don't want to say disappointed.
Speaker AAt first when I was watching a match, I didn't realize.
Speaker AI realized after the match why he seemed a little quiet was Arturo.
Speaker AI know the focus has kind of been on getting the ball down over to Juan de V.
Speaker ABut we got it spread out and Arturo just seemed a little quiet.
Speaker AAnd then I realized he'd been fouled like seven times.
Speaker AEvery time he got the ball, somebody's fouling him.
Speaker AHe's.
Speaker AHe's counting him out.
Speaker CHe's.
Speaker AIs he sitting on his butt?
Speaker AYeah, because he got fouled.
Speaker BHe's.
Speaker AHe's holding up.
Speaker AHe keeps holding up fingers, you know, to the referee.
Speaker AOh, so.
Speaker CBut I felt bad because each time he got fouled, though, it was by a different player.
Speaker CSo it's like, Mark, it's the fourth time you were fouled.
Speaker CBut if that.
Speaker CPlayers for one and four to.
Speaker AThey, they were just, they're taking turns.
Speaker AEverybody got him, I think, except for the keeper.
Speaker AYep.
Speaker ASo speaking of referees, female referee.
Speaker AI don't know if you all realize this because we talked about it a little bit after the game about how impressive she was.
Speaker AAnd as a referee, not because she was a female, but just as a referee.
Speaker AShe didn't take from anybody.
Speaker CShe stood on.
Speaker AShe was making great calls.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker ANobody was.
Speaker AYou could see people trying to, you know, get by with stuff and she was having none of it.
Speaker AI didn't realize until doing a little research that she is actually FIFA qualified referee, which is a huge deal.
Speaker AShe's good.
Speaker AShe's.
Speaker AWe need to have her every time playing center referee with us and also inspiring young people, young ladies, young men to.
Speaker ATo see what excellent looks like stimulated.
Speaker CNow with her being FIFA qualified, could we potentially see her be a referee in the FIFA Club World cup being us?
Speaker AI think she's, she's qualified to do it.
Speaker AWhether they, you know, she's on that selection list.
Speaker AI don't know.
Speaker AI don't know how they select that, but yeah, we can see her a different, different thing.
Speaker ASo it's.
Speaker AI'd like to do like a little referee watch and see, you know, this the quality that, you know, us looking at a referee go like, oh, that's a quality one.
Speaker ANo, that was not a quality one.
Speaker AYou know, the referees that seem to struggle their qualifications, you know, compared to other ones that don't struggle and have a command of the game like she does.
Speaker ASo I was very impressed.
Speaker AOne thing I kind of had a flashback at about three quarters of the game is drill instructors, drill sergeants.
Speaker AThe men are scary.
Speaker AHeather Brown around brown, stuff like that.
Speaker ABut a female drill instructor, a drill sergeant scares the bejeebus out of most people because they are just don't take any whatsoever.
Speaker ANot saying the men do, but female drills.
Speaker AAnd that's what she kind of reminded me of because she was getting in people's faces like, you ain't going to push past me.
Speaker AYou go ahead and roll your eyes all you want to and we're going to take care of business.
Speaker AShe was quick on the yellow cards, you know, when one was warranted, it wasn't like she had to think about it.
Speaker AShe knows her and I appreciate her being our center referee and hope we.
Speaker AHopefully we get to see her a lot more this season as our center referee.
Speaker ASo let's talk about after halftime, the quiet.
Speaker AArturo at some point does something.
Speaker CAbsolute nozzle.
Speaker BI think he's just been watching battery game film for the past year of just like all these ridiculous wonder strikes we keep doing.
Speaker BAnd he's like, you know what?
Speaker BI gave out like 17 assists in the last game.
Speaker BLet me go ahead and take one of these.
Speaker CIt was picture perfect.
Speaker CIt was.
Speaker CIt's everything that you want in a strike in your space.
Speaker CThe freedom, the skill play to get you that space and ability, the opportunity to have that shot.
Speaker CIt was.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AThe angle that he took it from was not the best angle either.
Speaker AWas it not?
Speaker CNo, but it was a great angle.
Speaker CIt was a great angle watching that ball fully curl around.
Speaker BLike, the only thing he was missing was just this beach blonde patch right on the top of his head.
Speaker CRight here, too.
Speaker ASo it's the first goal for Arturo the season.
Speaker AHe had some red card issues and I think earlier.
Speaker AIs he injured for a little bit?
Speaker CI think he.
Speaker CI think he picked up an injury for a game.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AAnd they get that silly red card.
Speaker AAnd so this is his first goal of the season, which it's an impressive one.
Speaker AI.
Speaker AI really enjoy that we have some players that really do some almost worldly goals on almost every match because it's exciting.
Speaker AVery exciting.
Speaker CExciting.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BYou always.
Speaker BYou have a chance of going to a Battery home game or watching them at a bar with your buddies and you may see goal of the week.
Speaker BI mean, this is what every week you just see three other random teams and then a battery name up there.
Speaker BIt's great.
Speaker BIt's great to see week in week out.
Speaker CAnd last year alone we had quite a few that made the ESPN top 10.
Speaker CNot just goal of the week, it was like ESPN top 10 for a few weeks because.
Speaker CWell, the other thing for us's midfield, goal was up there for quite a bit.
Speaker CQuite a bit, that one.
Speaker ASee the other thing, Rodrigo Rodriguez is, was named to team of the week for week seven, which he, he should.
Speaker BBe, but I mean, how many.
Speaker BHe had all three assists in the open cup game.
Speaker BI mean this guy's.
Speaker BWhen he's, when he's on his game, he is lights out.
Speaker BIt is almost like how we talk about a casa when he is just on his game.
Speaker BIt's hard to pick against him for the next match.
Speaker AYeah, well, as long as, as long as Arturo is not doing like, you know, kung fu fighting and crying, shot people in the net and get red cards.
Speaker AI roll my eyes.
Speaker BWhere was the referee for that game?
Speaker BCome on.
Speaker CRefereeing.
Speaker AHey, so was the ar not the same referee that was centered again, red card.
Speaker AI have to research that.
Speaker AMaybe, maybe he did that, that worldly just to show that, yeah, he's a better player than what a red card and a karate chop people might think of him.
Speaker ASo any thoughts on the match?
Speaker BNo, I just thought it was a good win and a perfect warm up for what's coming up this week.
Speaker AYeah, so we had a couple draws earlier this season, but these are the games that we need to be winning and winning big.
Speaker AAnd they went out there and did exactly what we needed to, what they needed to, to really, you know, imprint how good we are.
Speaker ABecause hopefully this is the beginning of the upward trend of our curve and going all the way up to the end of the season.
Speaker CYeah, yeah.
Speaker CDealing with the battery, you know, you get two losses in March and then going into April, you know, battery on a hot streak a little bit.
Speaker CWe're on a four game win streak.
Speaker CYou know, we're going to this last game of the month.
Speaker CEntire month of April could be shut out with wins for us.
Speaker ASo, Ryan, now is your time for your song.
Speaker AYou know which one?
Speaker CWhat's that?
Speaker AThe battery's on fire.
Speaker COh, not yet, not yet, not yet.
Speaker BIt always confuses him because he's always on fire.
Speaker AHe hasn't been on fire.
Speaker CSee, I was Looking over here, my fireplace.
Speaker CAnd I thought, my fire and my fireplace.
Speaker CThanksgiving will never be the same again in this house.
Speaker ASo let's move on to one of my favorite drinks.
Speaker AOkay, maybe not, but they are kind of fun.
Speaker AThe Jagermeister Cup.
Speaker ASo who wants to tell us about the.
Speaker AThis their first time in here?
Speaker AYeah, I think it's the only second season for it.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker ALast year, just USL1 teams.
Speaker ASo what's the format?
Speaker ALike six group stages or six.
Speaker ASix groups.
Speaker CYep, six groups based off of region play.
Speaker CAnd there are roughly between six to eight teams in each.
Speaker CIn each group you play two home games, two away games.
Speaker CTeams with the most points advance out and then you'll have knockouts.
Speaker CAnd the final is in October.
Speaker CI do not have the exact date, but I do know the finals in October.
Speaker CSo our.
Speaker ASo this.
Speaker CYeah, what you say.
Speaker ASo the top, top team from each group goes up to the.
Speaker AThe knockout stage.
Speaker AAnd there's two wild card teams that didn't move up, that will move up.
Speaker AAnd they are selected based on how many goals they scored.
Speaker ACorrect.
Speaker CIs it not by point?
Speaker CYes.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker CYeah, you're right.
Speaker CYep.
Speaker AYeah, you're correct.
Speaker AI think another interesting thing I was looking at was.
Speaker ASo no additional time if it's tied at full time.
Speaker CYep.
Speaker AThere no additional time.
Speaker AGo straight to PKs.
Speaker ABut the points awarded based on who wins the PKS is two points to the winner and one point to the loser.
Speaker CSimilar to hockey.
Speaker CYeah, it's like h.
Speaker CLike in hockey, if you make it to overtime and if you lose, you still get a point.
Speaker AAnother cool thing, yellow cards don't go on to the next round or something like that.
Speaker AWhat was the other in our group is?
Speaker ANaples, Greenville, Miami, South Georgia, Tormenta and those fucking idiots from Tampa Bay, the Crowdies.
Speaker ASo what's our chance to end up on top?
Speaker CWe have.
Speaker CWe have really good chance.
Speaker CThe team we're playing this weekend, FC Naples, new team in USLIK1.
Speaker CThey started out the year hot.
Speaker CThey came out and won six straight and then lost the Tampa Bay Rowdies 98 on pins in the US Open and then lost last week to Knoxville in the US USL 1 league.
Speaker CSo now on a two game losing streak, I think Battery can then take them out who are currently on a four game winning streak.
Speaker BYeah, I mean this should be a dominating display.
Speaker BMaybe a good chance to rotate a few guys in, keep as much as the team as fresh as possible.
Speaker BMaybe the guys who subbed in last game, maybe they get the 60 minutes now and then get subbed off so some other guys can come on.
Speaker BBut it should be exactly what we've seen the past two games.
Speaker BIt should just be a thrashing.
Speaker BHopefully we get off to a hot start again.
Speaker BI don't see why we wouldn't.
Speaker BAnd I would think we can go ahead and just knock this one home as a four nil defeat for Naples.
Speaker COkay, you're on four zero.
Speaker BI mean, you've seen the play the past few games.
Speaker BI don't know how you can say we're going to just all of a sudden stop scoring.
Speaker CSorry.
Speaker CI had a.
Speaker ASo I've lost a little.
Speaker AI can.
Speaker AMy mic.
Speaker AMy headphones went out.
Speaker ASo you guys keep talking.
Speaker AI want to get my stuff going.
Speaker CAll right, well, but, you know, I.
Speaker CI'm going with a.
Speaker AOr maybe not.
Speaker CI'm going with a 31 win and I think it's going to be a little harder.
Speaker CI think it's going to be a 11 at halftime.
Speaker CWe come away with it later in the half, later in the second half.
Speaker CI think in the very first half, it's going to be more about Naples 12th man.
Speaker CIt's going to be more about their home crowd, their atmosphere.
Speaker CIf you look at the layout of their stadium, one of my friends, he's one of their emergency keepers and he sent me videos of how they built their stadium.
Speaker CAnd it's similar to how the batteries was where we had, you know, the south end and you could be right next to the keeper.
Speaker CThere's.
Speaker CIt's a literal gate with no net there, so you can physically step onto the pitch and touch the keeper if you wanted to, or so on.
Speaker CSo it's very, very personal.
Speaker CYou're in everyone's space.
Speaker CIt gets very rowdy.
Speaker CThey get flares in there.
Speaker CIt's a ruckus.
Speaker BSo now question.
Speaker BQuick question for you.
Speaker BDoes your friend have to stand in a case behind glass with a hammer on a rope attached to it?
Speaker BIs that he's the emergency keeper now.
Speaker CHe.
Speaker CSo as an emergency keeper, he.
Speaker CIn the US Open cup game where FC Naples played against Little Rock, Arkansas, he was the backup keeper for Little Rock.
Speaker CAs Little Rock's backup keeper couldn't make the trip.
Speaker CSo they only had one keeper traveling.
Speaker CAnd I guess for a U.S.
Speaker Copen, you have to have two keepers on your roster for a match.
Speaker CI guess that's.
Speaker BSo he thinks he's almost like the guy that the Masters has.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker BThat fills in.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker ALiterally.
Speaker CThat's his job.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker CHe said it's so fun.
Speaker BBut he may play.
Speaker BHe.
Speaker BHe could have A chance of playing.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker CSo the, the goal was like, you know, maybe in like the 70th minute he had to come in, make a sick penalty save and then the next round he got the play against, you know, Messi and Inter Miami.
Speaker CBut then we realized Inter Miami wasn't in the US Open this year.
Speaker CSo that was the hope, you know, because it's by regional base so they, that's probably who they would have played next.
Speaker BWell, speaking of keepers, do you think we're going to switch it up for this game or are we going to see a little more of the Moodyo?
Speaker CI hope we do change it up.
Speaker COnly because.
Speaker CNot because Luis is doing anything wrong.
Speaker CI think he's doing a great job.
Speaker CI just like to see Christian get more minutes and I'm a big, big advocate on rotating keepers and keeping them fresh and giving them, giving your others minutes who deserve it though if they're stepping up and training, competing highly.
Speaker CI know it's extremely hard to rotate your keepers out in league play, but now you have two other competitions that you're currently in that you can give minutes for Christian or for Enzo.
Speaker CAnd you know, I think, I think it's going to be good and I, I hope Christian gets in.
Speaker CI really, really am pulling for him to start now.
Speaker BYou were, you were saying something about him earlier before we hopped on.
Speaker BHe had a little bit.
Speaker BGarner has a little interesting stat.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker BStat line for the battery.
Speaker CHe's actually played two games.
Speaker CHe's in his two games for the battery.
Speaker CI believe his goals ratio is we have scored 10 goals and have conceded zero goals while Christian has been protecting the net for the battery.
Speaker BSo averaging five goals scored for us and you predict only three for us in this game.
Speaker CSaid, well, I don't know if Christian's starting.
Speaker BYou think Enzo may get the non.
Speaker BI would like to see him get that.
Speaker CI, it depends on they travel the, the way they travel and everything.
Speaker CComing traveling from Indy and then now having traveled down to Naples the very next week, it's hard to see how much they would change up of their team, of the roster.
Speaker CLike they're already wanting to do a good amount of change ups as it's a different league.
Speaker CThey're going into a little bit change up going against, you know, Naples, who's in League one.
Speaker CThey can have the right to change up and give freedom to some players who need rest.
Speaker CHope it's given to Christian, but I don't know.
Speaker BWell, we'll, we'll see, we'll see who gets in I think we'll rotate a little bit and see if Granite can.
Speaker BHe's still working on his end over there.
Speaker BMan, he is just beating the hell out of our technical director right now.
Speaker BIt's got to give him some slack.
Speaker BBut we move on because we're professionals, Ryan, and that's what we do, move on.
Speaker BSo one player that we may see rotate in is our new signing, Rubio Ruben, Guatemalan forward who we just over.
Speaker BWhen do we acquire him?
Speaker BOn Thursday.
Speaker BSo it's only been 24 hours.
Speaker BHad a little stint with the US Men's National Team youth system.
Speaker CYep.
Speaker BBelieve he's originally from Oregon, so.
Speaker BBut he has Guatemalan parents and I believe Mexican parents.
Speaker BSo he has now gone the route of Guatemala.
Speaker BOh, he's back.
Speaker BHe is alive.
Speaker AThat's a great point.
Speaker BAnd he's out.
Speaker BIs this a signing we may be seeing in his very first game?
Speaker BTwo days after joining the club?
Speaker CYou know, you'd like to see.
Speaker CIt depends on where he's coming from.
Speaker CI know he's already at training sessions with the Battery now, him making the flight down to Naples, maybe they want to let him get settled in for the week.
Speaker CI would like to see him get some minutes.
Speaker CI don't see him starting.
Speaker CI could see him getting minutes, hopefully 15 to 20 minutes of playing time.
Speaker CI would love to see it.
Speaker CBut I can also see them holding off and waiting until we host Hartford at home the next week.
Speaker CYou know, I see that being a very good first game, first home debut for him and that being a big crowd pleaser for everybody at the Battery scene.
Speaker COur new.
Speaker COur new forward coming into town.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BSo him being a forward is kind of up in the air a little bit.
Speaker BRight.
Speaker BSo Pierman said after joining on Thursday, he said that he's, and I quote, an attacker who can play in a variety of roles, out wide on either side or centrally, a variety of roles.
Speaker BSo where is Rubio going to slot in?
Speaker BIs he going to be competing more with Rodriguez Torres, MD, CAL, or is it kind of just an open market and he's going to rotate wherever he kind of see fit?
Speaker CI think he's going to rotate where he sees fit.
Speaker CAnd I think he can also roll in with Ikaza or Arturo at Cam.
Speaker CYou know, I think he's got four positions he can slide in between.
Speaker CAnd when you add a guy with that type of versatility, that shows the longevity you're in for.
Speaker CRight.
Speaker CThe long run that you're playing that you're in for all season long.
Speaker CAnd to Have a player that could cover that many positions for you at a given moment.
Speaker CIt's great to have.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BWell, hopefully we get to see him even if we get a 10 minute stint as a sub.
Speaker BBut who knows?
Speaker BLike you said, maybe we'll save it for the home game and we'll get a home match debut and get to see him in person for the first time instead of having to watch them on the TV screen.
Speaker BSo.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BDo you have anything else, Ryan?
Speaker AI don't.
Speaker CI don't really think we don't have anything else.
Speaker COh, I had.
Speaker BI mean, it's pretty much covered it all.
Speaker BWe got a new signing, we weren't scoring enough goals.
Speaker BWe capped out.
Speaker BWe're only at four goals, then three goals, so why not add another attacking player?
Speaker BAnd let's go for five.
Speaker BWe haven't seen it yet, so I like it.
Speaker CI like it.
Speaker CAnd let's go for that fifth win of the month.
Speaker CLet's shut out April and get ready for May.
Speaker BCool.
Speaker BWell, we'll figure out where we're going to be watching this game.
Speaker BThere's a few feelers around for the new Canon Crew watch party that we're going to try and get going.
Speaker BSo very excited about next.
Speaker BYeah, Next podcast will definitely have more information, but like most things we do, we're not too sure.
Speaker BAll right, well, I'll leave some space at the end here for Granite to come back for from his extended vacation and give you guys a few closing thoughts.
Speaker BTill next time.
Speaker AAdios.
Speaker AOkay, Patrick, my sound is back so I can hear the world now.
Speaker AAnd in my absence, the two fooligans forgot a couple of things.
Speaker AOne kickoff, 7:00 to Naples, ESPN Plus.
Speaker AAnd we're thinking about going out, maybe watching it somewhere.
Speaker AI don't think there's an official battery watch party, but we're looking for some place and we haven't decided yet.
Speaker AAnd when we do, we'll shoot on Instagram or something like that and everyone want meet meet up with us.
Speaker ABe more than happy to let you buy us a beer.
Speaker AWell, Patrick, of course not, but a nearby athletic.
Speaker BYeah, they are still delicious.
Speaker BWe're thinking maybe near the stadium.
Speaker BSo if anyone has other suggestions, shoot them over to the Cannon Cruise Instagram or is there a Twitter who knows?
Speaker BJust your Instagram.
Speaker AI'm not as good at Twitter, but if you want to go ahead and shoot an email at granted@canoncrew.com I'll take any and all suggestions.
Speaker AOkay, I'm done.
Speaker AYou done?
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BUp the battery.
Speaker BLet's let's finish this Jaegermeister cup out in style.
Speaker BGet a win.
Speaker AAbsolutely.
Speaker BCan you feel the thunder?
Speaker CBe the fate of Charleston come to put you under.
Speaker BWe are lovely.
Speaker AYour ship we will take, but we are the battery.
