It was set up perfectly for them to have a rebound reestablish their plan and what they have going forward for them if they can re Establish something.

The pitch doesn't get any better.

They did they have the COVID up stuff like used to spray on people that was lacking some hair follicles.

That is the college and you know there's probably some red tape over some things and takes longer to push along and the maintenance crew is probably the colleges and they probably are focusing on the baseball and stuff right now.

Summertime's their leeway time and it's hard.

To grow grass then which is a far walk from the baseball stadium to the soccer.

And again though, same spot as last year.

I think our field looked just the same, like nothing's changed.

And it's just like another reason why the Battery are looking to leave soon.

Maybe a bunch of us needing and.

You know the colleges aren't really looking to extend them because they have plans of their own to redo their own stadium and the Battery needs to find a new home, a bigger stadium so that they way they can pursue their hopes of individual one.

So we just sneak in water bottles and.

And put, like, some fertilizer and stuff like that, and we just spray the field.

When, you know, when there's firework nights, we'll just go do our own stuff out there.

There's a.

There's an old King of the Hill episode where all four of the guys were sneaking in to the high school stadium to fix all the turf and do it so their high school football team can make it run.

And the groundskeeper took all the credit for it.

And it was basically just the four Dads going in because they were sick of seeing how bad it was and how bad the play was.

You know, like, you go to pitches, you know where the bad spots are, so you either need to play through that area or not play through that area.

Wherever you looked, he was popping up.

I mean, I think we go too far between where we.

We were getting peppered a lot in the first half, so, like, yeah, we scored that early goal, but we were kind of being dominated for the next, like 30 minutes, 40 minutes.

But kudos to the Battery because a goal right before halftime had to just kill them completely and just deflate Brooklyn and especially like some of your top guys getting it who are on the fringe, who maybe you should be starting.

Don't usually start every game, so I think it solidifies it and then gives you the opportunity at halftime to have a bigger conversation as a coach of.

Okay, who can I think about maybe bringing on and getting some more playing time out of as well?

So it's nice to see that we finally did it.

We got a goal before half, killed their momentum, and then came out second half and did the same thing.

And those two goals were very similar in nature, and it was balls being put into the box from people coming from the.

I think it's the right hand side for both them, if I remember right.

And it's just nice to see that we're getting goals from areas that we don't normally how we get goals from.

And again to a wit, especially with Mo Foster.

We were wanting him get more time, get more.

Especially on the outline, seeing how Miguel also plays out wide.

It shows a good mix of what can bring in balanced attack and balanced environment.

Can we allow them to go and exploit things now?

So let's talk about something that we've been harping on and that is our keeper.

He had a clean sheet.

As you notice, within minutes after the match, the battery put out on our social media is clean sheet or whatever it was.

And.

And I look and I thought there was three saves in the first half, but I only see two.

And then I see next to it says keeper saves.

So there was a third save and didn't have to use his hands.

Oh, it wasn't him, was it?

No.

So actually two guys got a clean, clean sheet on the night.

I mean if you tune in and just watch the highlights, you would look and be like, I don't.

I think the goalie might have been water break or getting notes from the coach.

He was nowhere in the vicinity even trying to backtrack to the goal hydration.

Yeah.

A certain goal going in and Joey just clears it off the line.

It's the Moody went out for a ball and he kind of half asked, went out for it and then didn't get it.

And then all of a sudden, bang.

It should have been at that point.

Was it.

It would have been 1:1, but that would have changed the way we played.

Do you think it would have changed the outcome of the match?

This was eight minutes, nine minutes into the game.

I think if that goes in, if Joey doesn't make the effort, he puts in completely different ball game.

I mean we saw, I touched on it earlier, but the next 30 minutes they had like three or four other decent shots on target.

So they were getting plenty of opportunities if they were at 1:1.

I could see us making a defense defensive mistake and kind of letting one go in again and maybe being down going into half.

So quickly.

The games can change because it's just about.

The game is all about mistakes and whoever generates the most mistakes in the game is usually the team that typically lose.

Now there's sometimes you just get lucky bounces and sometimes the better team doesn't win that game.

But generally speaking it goes about like this and with how we're playing, we are expecting to continue to drive, move forward, add to our attack and we haven't seen that lately after the past couple matches.

What we're putting into our goalkeeping board right now needs to also reflect in our defense and how our defense has been showing up and how our defense playing.

I haven't seen many stats showing about how Joey Clean Sheets, I mean anything about Green Smith knocking about our outside backs, Blackstock or anything like that over been seeing stuff about Zoo and I'm still not impressed.

Yeah, I think it's, I think it's.

They have to do that.

That's to build up our confidence in him.

But what about, I mean ever since, ever since Archer left, we don't build up our defense anymore.

And this game we did, I mean somehow we kept the clean sheet, but the attack was there.

And honestly I just think it was two guys, Barry and Foster from the get go, ripping things apart.

And then I guess if we look at the second half, it turned into the Caicedo show and then he eventually awards Barry with his goal.

I thought Barry deserved one.

Probably should have had more chances for himself but very selfish, selfless in this match and we got a lot of goals out of it because of that.

So kudos to Barry.

I'm gonna just go ahead and say he was my man in the match for this.

My Barry jersey.

So the great Thing about Barry, like you said he was offering a ball up to other players.

He's so strong.

I mean I look back and I think of strong, you know people hit in front of the goal is pretty strong.

I think of you know MD Myers seemed pretty strong but Barry is not just flat footed strong.

He is on one foot muscling people around and not muscles around which I think really helps us out distributing the ball in here.

Well he was, he was, he was getting picked on I'll say because you can see the frustration come out of our players late in game.

Sure we'll touch on the big incident but the Messer cross ikaza somehow all 5 foot, what 5 of him getting up and scoring ahead of goal in the box.

Miguel Berry, one of the craziest celebrations I've ever seen.

Just yeah screaming in a guy's face with his hand like cocked right like what are we doing here?

So I think they were taking some cheap shots at him and I'm glad he got a goal and then.

To get back at them a little bit.

Well that, that was.

I think that he's still on the, on the World cup high of, of Spain winning.

So maybe that was his way of showing it in addition to ikaza.

So the other cool thing is we've.

We had goals from five different people and Casado was the next one.

Then as somebody said.

I re watched a little bit of the match and they said it was the Gordie Howe hat trick.

A goal assist and a fight.

A solid fight too.

Totally necessary to be going at a guy like that.

I usually have our guys backs on these and you watch it back and you're like dude, yeah it's four nil.

Yeah, we like I love going for the ball but there was no chance of getting it and team reacted well I'll say that yeah the team got out there and defended each other but yeah, so dumb and so unnecessary and now we're going to miss a huge time player for a game.

Sure his goal was spectacular too.

I thought it was three games.

No, just I think it's just one on this one.

That's what they were red summer.

It was a straight red so they can appeal but I don't think there's really much to appeal on this one.

It was late, it was through the back of his legs.

I think, I think if I have to brush up on this is that if it's violent conduct or that level Then you can get a know three match band.

But if it's a straight red for just what happened there, just a bad foul, then think just one match.

So what did you think of his goal?

That's.

I want to talk about his goal because the goal was fantastic.

First I saw it and I thought as a keeper messed up.

Then when they kind of rotated the camera from the far end of the field, you could see the keeper, he would.

He should have had it.

And it just in that little spot that apparently can't get.

It's where you go, it's where you go to score goals.

You hit them low, you, you create the space for yourself.

We're playing well where guys aren't just standing flat footed so like there's movement so he can take a step and get a yard of space and just what a crack like man, it's one of those like jures like wonder goals that you watch where you look at it and you're like that's.

It's a little further out than I remember.

Like yes, it was deep and it was, it had, it had some pace to it, but it was on the ground.

I thought it was going too slow.

But then watching from behind, it had a nice little curve, a little bit out and comes off the post.

It gets, gets around.

The keeper's hand is beautiful and it's outside the box and I think that causes keepers to relax a little bit when you got the ball that far out.

Maybe, I don't know, Ryan, maybe know more about that.

It just depends on positioning and preference, honestly and what goalkeepers feel most confident.

I didn't mind it.

I think I thought it was more fun to dive on top of the ball to more of the snakes.

But my favorite diving was always forward diving, sideways diving.

It causes dive sideways.

I've always wanted to be up in the air for some because my biggest thing was driving my pinky or my ring finger into the ground and you know, pulling my finger backwards.

That was the biggest thing.

So it's all about that preference.

So maybe he's not married yet and he's saving his ring finger for his wife and he just didn't want to break it yet.

Maybe that's what it was.

I don't think he just got married though.

There's no like consistency buildup from this team.

This, this game reminds me of a lot of games last year where come off a big win and we're all hyped about it and we go up and maybe one goal is scored.

Like we just see a huge scoring prowess from our team.

I feel like we're going to revert back to like pass around the back line, maybe get a late header goal from a Messer cross or something.

But I'm gonna go one nil.

I hope we can keep another clean sheet.

But this is one of those games where I hope we don't like just completely change our style because it's.

It works.

You have fast guys with fast touches and fast movement.

Let them keep playing like that.

Like tell them, go do exactly what you just did.

But you guys go be creative players because that's what you're good at.

I don't even care if we lose the game and you guys look amazing.

I'd rather keep that momentum and that pace of play and that style of play and just keep going forward the rest of the season.

As you know, playoffs opening in the next month or so, succeeding is coming into play now.

I have a question for you guys to close up on that I'd like to pick your brain on.

Yeah, my, my every game's a final and we gotta keep playing it like that every.

Because we're so inconsistent, we can't drop our guard down and we just got to go out 100%.

Not saying that they don't all the time, but like it's a final match because we've got to keep getting points.

We can't drop points needlessly.

We can't get red cards at 80 minutes.

All right, So I wanted to ask you guys because clearly we're seeing a shift kind of in the USL Championship East.

Do we now consider the way these last few games.

I don't know if you guys watched Tampa Bay, but seeing how they play and how they've come back, win these games or just flat out beat the shit out of some teams.

Is Tampa Bay the new Louisville?

Like, is Louisville no longer our biggest competition?

Is Tampa Bay the king of the table?

I mean, theoretically they're in first right now, but I'm saying, has that completely shifted where they've overtaken Louisville?

I'd say you'd have another year or two of that before you would kind of take that Louisville title away from them.

And that mainly comes from the consistency over 10, 11 years where they were able to make consistent Eastern Conference championship games, like appearances.

So for Battery the way or for the Rowdies, the way they're going this year, I applaud them.

They're very fantastic.

You know, they have a few of the Battery players.

They utilize this especially going for the season to, to go and bolster the roster I had indeed picked last year.

It was one of my favorites for a reason.

I felt like the Battery could have gotten more out of him than what we got.

And now he's, he's doing great things.

And in the Rowdies he scored out last minute winner against, against the Leadville the other night.

Seeing that, seeing what they, that team had bought into, what they have going down here in Tampa Bay right now, they're very dangerous, but I still think they're very beatable because just like every team, everyone has mental struggles and they have mental lapses during the games and Create mistakes.

Can you be consistent enough and be persistent enough to exploit those?

I mean, I mainly, I mainly ask because they just played head to head and Louisville was winning 3 nil.

And they came back to go ahead and win that game.

Five, four.

They're 11 points clear of Louisville.

Louisville's in what, fourth now.

Like, what are your thoughts?

I mean, I, it's tough.

Is it a one time like flash in the pan one season you guys are doing great, but it's not going to be consistent.

I, I don't think.

I don't see them being consistent the whole season.

I don't know if they replace Louis kind of like the perennial top of the table, top team, but they drew with, with Brooklyn at Louisville.

You know, just a couple matches.

Dragons gotten loud in, you know, so they've been struggling against teams they shouldn't be struggling against that they'd never struggled with in the past.

I mean we beat them at home.

So I, I think at least this year I don't see them rising to the top.

I could be wrong now.

Postseason might be a different story, but.

Regular season, Sam, my 4.2.

So both postseason also succeeding still and still being that Eastern championship.

It's just one game at a time.

Well, that we just need to.

I think last couple winners of the league have not been number one seeds.

I mean this is, this is their second win over them this year.

I think it's a club doing things in the right direction.

They were a laughing stock for too long and I think they just went out and said what's going to work?

They waited another year.

They went and cleared our house out with guys who have proven themselves to be the top of this league.

Added them and I mean they're not,.

It's tough to say.

Like I, I love the guys that went there and I think they're really good players, but they are aging.

So I don't know if the longevity is there or if this is something they can get into a Eastern Conference final potentially or even the final and get guys to want to come there and build.

Like, aren't they building a new stadium there too?

Like, or redoing their entire baseball stadium into something else.

Like it's an exciting team with a lot of history.

We talk about the Battery.

It's a lot of history for Tampa Bay.

I think that plays into it for guys too, of being like, hey, soccer's changing, the landscape's changing in the future.

One of these legacy teams, if they start getting better and better for this year, next year, then they're going to be in the top division, they're going to attract more attention.

The stadium will come.

The stadium will be done by then.

Like Louisville has a stadium.

But if Louisville is going to start dropping off and like, I don't know, like, I don't know if Louisville is going through injuries or what, but you don't get.

Louisville doesn't get swept by teams, definitely doesn't lose to teams at home.

So I don't know.

I like what Tampa Bay is doing.

I wish we would have kept our players though.

You got to remember too Lil also long as tenure of CAD coach, you know, going into the season.

Well, here's the big difference between the two of them and it's.

It sounds obvious, but Louisville's lost seven and Tampa Bay's only lost two.

Tampa Bay's drawn five and Louisville's only drawn three.

And we're kind of in a very similar boat as Louisville.

They're just not losing matches.

The close ones, they're.

They're digging a point out of.

I mean it all comes down to the playoffs regardless.

Yeah, but we talk about it time and time again like we've been knocked out by an ac.

It sucks.

Like you, you still have to be informed.

You have to bring it.

And like I see Tampa Bay, the way they play, continuing this, that to the end of the season and going in really hot.

Like these players have been there before.
