Brooklyn beat Charleston 3–0 earlier this season.
The Battery remembered.
Charleston answered with an emphatic 5–0 beatdown at Patriots Point, getting goals from five different players and delivering exactly the kind of response we had been waiting to see.
But was this really the Battery turning the corner—or just another dominant home performance?
On this episode of Cannon Crüe, Granit, Ryan and Patrick break down the revenge win over Brooklyn, the impact of Maalique Foster and Miguel Berry, Charleston’s suddenly dangerous attack, the clean sheet that wasn't quite as comfortable as the scoreline suggests, and the spectacular—and completely unnecessary—Kissiedou goal/red-card combination.
Then we look ahead to Loudoun, Charleston’s troublesome road form, the increasingly tight Eastern Conference playoff race, and ask a bigger question:
Has Tampa Bay replaced Louisville as the team everyone should fear in the East?
Five goals. Five scorers. A clean sheet. A little revenge.
Now do it again.
EPISODE NOTES
REVENGE: COMPLETE
Charleston avenged its earlier 3–0 loss in Brooklyn with a 5–0 demolition at Patriots Point.
The guys discuss whether this was simply a great night at home—or evidence that the Battery have finally rediscovered the attacking identity that has been missing during their recent inconsistent stretch.
Five Goals, Five Different Scorers
Charleston didn't rely on one player to carry the attack. Goals came from throughout the lineup, with movement, quick combinations and aggressive runs creating a much more dangerous version of the Battery.
Let It Foster
Maalique Foster was everywhere.
After repeatedly asking for more minutes and more attacking freedom for Foster, the Crüe breaks down what changed with him on the field and why his pace and movement may be too valuable to leave out of the starting XI.
And yes—we may have accidentally created the phrase “Let It Foster.”
Miguel Berry Changes the Attack
Berry's strength, movement and willingness to create for teammates stood out throughout the match.
Was this his best performance in a Battery shirt?
Patrick makes the case for Berry as his Man of the Match—and we discuss whether Charleston may have found a better way to use him.
A Clean Sheet… But Let's Talk About It
Luis Zamudio officially gets the clean sheet.
But Joey Akpunonu's early goal-line clearance may have prevented an entirely different match from developing.
We continue our discussion about Charleston's goalkeeping, defensive structure and whether the final score covered up some dangerous moments early in the match.
Goal, Assist… Fight?
A spectacular strike from distance.
A gorgeous backheel.
And then a completely unnecessary challenge with Charleston already cruising.
The Crüe breaks down Kissiedou's eventful night and whether his late red card unnecessarily hurts Charleston heading into the next match.
Also: Can Somebody Please Fix the Pitch?
Patriots Point's playing surface gets another Cannon Crüe performance review.
Home Depot and Lowe's sponsorship inquiries are apparently welcome.
Next Up: Loudoun United
Charleston destroyed Loudoun 4–1 in the previous meeting, but this one comes on the road—and Loudoun enters in much better form.
Can the Battery reproduce the speed, movement and creativity we saw against Brooklyn?
Or do we go right back to slow possession and passing around the back?
OUR LOUDOUN PREDICTIONS
Patrick: Battery 1–0
Granit: 1–1 Draw
Ryan: Battery 2–1
The Eastern Conference Is Getting Interesting
With the playoff race tightening, we look beyond Charleston and discuss one of the biggest questions in the East:
Is Tampa Bay becoming the new Louisville?
The Rowdies are surging, Louisville suddenly looks vulnerable, and the traditional hierarchy of the Eastern Conference may finally be shifting.
As the postseason approaches, one thing becomes increasingly important:
Every match is a final.
Cannon Crüe
Charleston Battery analysis, arguments, goalkeeper criticism, questionable predictions and the occasional discussion about illegally fertilizing the Patriots Point pitch.

Welcome to the Candle Crew podcast and we are recording afternoon.
Speaker ASee, the daylight is really cause havoc with my studio setup because I had to put stuff over windows and stuff like that.
Speaker APatrick, you're looking good with some windows behind you.
Speaker ARyan's finally got supplied.
Speaker BI'm gonna go ahead.
Speaker BI'm gonna go ahead and apologize.
Speaker BThis is mainly because of my camera.
Speaker BIt's very poor.
Speaker BWe are at Canon crew helping to fix that.
Speaker AHere we got your haircut.
Speaker ASo, yeah, first got my first game.
Speaker BOf the seat club game of the season tomorrow.
Speaker BIt's a scrimmage, but really excited.
Speaker ANice.
Speaker AIt's preseason.
Speaker ADoesn't count.
Speaker AWe'll take it to heart, especially if you're playing Bettis.
Speaker ABut anyways.
Speaker APatrick, how are you?
Speaker CGreat.
Speaker CGranite's lying to you.
Speaker CI'm.
Speaker CI'm in Australia, so we're just totally different time zones.
Speaker AAustralia.
Speaker ASo when you flush the toilet, it goes counterclockwise, right?
Speaker CGoes up.
Speaker CIt goes up.
Speaker AGoes up, goes up.
Speaker AOkay.
Speaker AThere was a discussion beforehand about toilets.
Speaker AThat's what Patrick is refereeing, referencing.
Speaker ASo let's talk about this 5 nil beating of Brooklyn.
Speaker ADoes this pay back for the 3 nil we got beat up up there?
Speaker BLet's start with what we talked about last podcast, which was about this was a game of redemption for them.
Speaker BIt was set up perfectly for them to have a rebound reestablish their plan and what they have going forward for them if they can re Establish something.
Speaker AWell, did they.
Speaker AYou talking about Brooklyn or us?
Speaker AUs.
Speaker ADid we re.
Speaker AEstablish something?
Speaker AShould we talk about?
Speaker CI think we.
Speaker CI.
Speaker CWe have re established.
Speaker CWe're really good at home.
Speaker CYeah, we're unbeaten at home.
Speaker CWas this 22 games at home unbeaten,.
Speaker AOr was Brooklyn that bad at our house?
Speaker CI think everyone's bad there.
Speaker CI think what Ryan's touching on is last time we talked about a few guys and wondering why aren't they starting?
Speaker CMaybe that's the difference.
Speaker CAnd we see Malik out there.
Speaker CBarry's up top.
Speaker CCabrera, like 20 seconds in, you got guys one touching the ball.
Speaker C20 Seconds in and we get a goal.
Speaker AAnd sliding into the goal like that is fantastic because we saw it twice this the next goal.
Speaker AJust almost identical, didn't it?
Speaker CYeah, I mean, we.
Speaker CWe have.
Speaker CYou talk about Sean Suber playing out of position as a defensive mid.
Speaker CWell, I think Miguel Berry should be our right winger.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker CI think 20 seconds in, he solidified what he should be doing from here on out.
Speaker ASo let's.
Speaker ALet's.
Speaker AI'm going to back up.
Speaker ALet's talk about the jerseys.
Speaker AI don't know why I just they popped in my you site this match versus other ones.
Speaker ABut Malik had the collar popped up on 90s night and I was like okay, the jersey doesn't look that bad.
Speaker AIf it got us five goals we should keep wearing it.
Speaker BI want the red ones.
Speaker BThrowback 30 anniversary first cup jerseys.
Speaker AAnd also because we don't have a front shirt sponsor this year.
Speaker ARight?
Speaker BCorrect.
Speaker AAnd that one, it looks like we do this some.
Speaker ASome company called Holy City fc.
Speaker BWell that's just the batteries but you.
Speaker AHave to self support yourself on the front of the shirt sponsor.
Speaker AIf somebody has a couple hundred grand, we might be able to get you on the front of there and I'll cut you a deal.
Speaker AYou give me 900 grand, I'll get you on the front.
Speaker AOf course that goes along with it.
Speaker CYou know, I don't know that could that conflict of interest.
Speaker CI think other teams out there are already being supported in that arm sleeve situation.
Speaker AThere is but they're amateur.
Speaker CSome would call them well trained professionals.
Speaker CJust professional and other things.
Speaker AYeah, okay, I'll go with that.
Speaker AThe other thing I want to talk about is the pitch.
Speaker AThe pitch doesn't get any better.
Speaker AAt what point in the does in the Battery's tenure there do we get somebody that can plant grass and sow grass and.
Speaker AAnd actually maybe just get some stuff from Home Depot or Lowe's or something put there.
Speaker AThere's big bald patches in there.
Speaker AThey.
Speaker AThey did they have the COVID up stuff like used to spray on people that was lacking some hair follicles.
Speaker BYeah, I think too.
Speaker BYou have to think too though.
Speaker BThat is the college and you know there's probably some red tape over some things and takes longer to push along and the maintenance crew is probably the colleges and they probably are focusing on the baseball and stuff right now.
Speaker BSummertime's their leeway time and it's hard.
Speaker CTo grow grass then which is a far walk from the baseball stadium to the soccer.
Speaker AYeah, no, I know.
Speaker BAnd again though, same spot as last year.
Speaker BI think our field looked just the same, like nothing's changed.
Speaker BAnd it's just like another reason why the Battery are looking to leave soon.
Speaker AMaybe a bunch of us needing and.
Speaker BIt's looking to leave soon is that they're kind of having to leave soon.
Speaker BYou know the colleges aren't really looking to extend them because they have plans of their own to redo their own stadium and the Battery needs to find a new home, a bigger stadium so that they way they can pursue their hopes of individual one.
Speaker ASo we just sneak in water bottles and.
Speaker AAnd.
Speaker AAnd put, like, some fertilizer and stuff like that, and we just spray the field.
Speaker AWhen, you know, when there's firework nights, we'll just go do our own stuff out there.
Speaker CThere's a.
Speaker CThere's an old King of the Hill episode where all four of the guys were sneaking in to the high school stadium to fix all the turf and do it so their high school football team can make it run.
Speaker CAnd the groundskeeper took all the credit for it.
Speaker CAnd it was basically just the four Dads going in because they were sick of seeing how bad it was and how bad the play was.
Speaker AWow.
Speaker AOkay, we didn't mention that on.
Speaker AOn air, did we?
Speaker CBecause research.
Speaker CResearch.
Speaker AYeah, yeah, yeah, research.
Speaker AOkay, enough about the pitch.
Speaker AAnd maybe we use it for our benefit.
Speaker AUh, I don't know.
Speaker AHopefully we do.
Speaker AYou know, like, you go to pitches, you know where the bad spots are, so you either need to play through that area or not play through that area.
Speaker AHopefully we use it for our benefit.
Speaker ASo let's keep going back to the goal right after the Cabrera.
Speaker AWe got another goal right before half.
Speaker CYeah, Foster again, just.
Speaker CThis dude is so electric on the pitch.
Speaker BHe.
Speaker CIt seemed like he was everywhere tonight.
Speaker CWherever you looked, he was popping up.
Speaker CAs in player involved in every single play.
Speaker CPositive for the Battery.
Speaker CSo well deserved.
Speaker CI mean, I think we go too far between where we.
Speaker CWe were getting peppered a lot in the first half, so, like, yeah, we scored that early goal, but we were kind of being dominated for the next, like 30 minutes, 40 minutes.
Speaker CBut kudos to the Battery because a goal right before halftime had to just kill them completely and just deflate Brooklyn and especially like some of your top guys getting it who are on the fringe, who maybe you should be starting.
Speaker CDon't usually start every game, so I think it solidifies it and then gives you the opportunity at halftime to have a bigger conversation as a coach of.
Speaker COkay, who can I think about maybe bringing on and getting some more playing time out of as well?
Speaker CSo it's nice to see that we finally did it.
Speaker AWe.
Speaker CWe got a goal before half, killed their momentum, and then came out second half and did the same thing.
Speaker AAnd those two goals were very similar in nature, and it was balls being put into the box from people coming from the.
Speaker AI think it's the right hand side for both them, if I remember right.
Speaker AAnd it's just nice to see that we're getting goals from areas that we don't normally how we get goals from.
Speaker ARyan.
Speaker BAnd again to a wit, especially with Mo Foster.
Speaker BThis is what we were asking for.
Speaker BWe were wanting him get more time, get more.
Speaker BEspecially on the outline, seeing how Miguel also plays out wide.
Speaker BIt shows a good mix of what can bring in balanced attack and balanced environment.
Speaker BCan we allow them to go and exploit things now?
Speaker BCan you now add this or allow it to churn?
Speaker BLet it grow.
Speaker BLet it Foster.
Speaker ALet it foster.
Speaker AState of changing, but let it foster.
Speaker AI like that.
Speaker AI want to start using that more often.
Speaker BFoster.
Speaker BIf you wanted to, they could get rally house but playoffs and he says let it Foster.
Speaker ALet it Foster that.
Speaker CGet the old Foster's oil cans, the big beers in the stadium.
Speaker AThey probably won't let us do that.
Speaker ASo we have to smuggle them.
Speaker AI mean we wouldn't smuggle them in, but they're empty.
Speaker ACan we not bring them in?
Speaker AI don't know.
Speaker AWe'll find out.
Speaker AI'll check the rules on that.
Speaker AWe'll get a drum and we'll beat our drum as we come in and they'll let us.
Speaker ASo let's talk about something that we've been harping on and that is our keeper.
Speaker AHe had a clean sheet.
Speaker AAs you notice, within minutes after the match, the battery put out on our social media is clean sheet or whatever it was.
Speaker AAnd.
Speaker AAnd I look and I thought there was three saves in the first half, but I only see two.
Speaker AAnd then I see next to it says keeper saves.
Speaker ASo there was a third save and didn't have to use his hands.
Speaker AOh, it wasn't him, was it?
Speaker CNo.
Speaker CSo actually two guys got a clean, clean sheet on the night.
Speaker CJoey.
Speaker AJoey.
Speaker CI mean if you tune in and just watch the highlights, you would look and be like, I don't.
Speaker CI think the goalie might have been water break or getting notes from the coach.
Speaker CHe was nowhere in the vicinity even trying to backtrack to the goal hydration.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker CA certain goal going in and Joey just clears it off the line.
Speaker AIt's the Moody went out for a ball and he kind of half asked, went out for it and then didn't get it.
Speaker AAnd then all of a sudden, bang.
Speaker AIt should have been at that point.
Speaker AWas it.
Speaker AIt would have been 1:1, but that would have changed the way we played.
Speaker ADo you think it would have changed the outcome of the match?
Speaker A100.
Speaker CThis was eight minutes, nine minutes into the game.
Speaker CI think if that goes in, if Joey doesn't make the effort, he puts in completely different ball game.
Speaker CI mean we saw, I touched on it earlier, but the next 30 minutes they had like three or four other decent shots on target.
Speaker CSo they were getting plenty of opportunities if they were at 1:1.
Speaker CI could see us making a defense defensive mistake and kind of letting one go in again and maybe being down going into half.
Speaker BSo quickly.
Speaker BThe games can change because it's just about.
Speaker BThe game is all about mistakes and whoever generates the most mistakes in the game is usually the team that typically lose.
Speaker BNow there's sometimes you just get lucky bounces and sometimes the better team doesn't win that game.
Speaker BBut generally speaking it goes about like this and with how we're playing, we are expecting to continue to drive, move forward, add to our attack and we haven't seen that lately after the past couple matches.
Speaker BWhat we're putting into our goalkeeping board right now needs to also reflect in our defense and how our defense has been showing up and how our defense playing.
Speaker BI haven't seen many stats showing about how Joey Clean Sheets, I mean anything about Green Smith knocking about our outside backs, Blackstock or anything like that over been seeing stuff about Zoo and I'm still not impressed.
Speaker AYeah, I think it's, I think it's.
Speaker AThey have to do that.
Speaker AThat's to build up our confidence in him.
Speaker BBut what about, I mean ever since, ever since Archer left, we don't build up our defense anymore.
Speaker BI had one post.
Speaker AGo ahead.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker CWhat are you talking about?
Speaker CWe bought the defensive player of the year.
Speaker BSuper.
Speaker AWe have two.
Speaker AWe have two, right, that have been defensive player of the years, right?
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BThe past two years.
Speaker BPast two seasons.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker COne plays center back and the other doesn't.
Speaker CI mean, listen, I, I touched on it a few pods ago or the last one, but like if we're just going to go score four or five goals, who cares?
Speaker CThat's fine.
Speaker CLike that's a totally different way of playing.
Speaker CAnd this game we did, I mean somehow we kept the clean sheet, but the attack was there.
Speaker CAnd honestly I just think it was two guys, Barry and Foster from the get go, ripping things apart.
Speaker CAnd then I guess if we look at the second half, it turned into the Caicedo show and then he eventually awards Barry with his goal.
Speaker CI thought Barry deserved one.
Speaker CProbably should have had more chances for himself but very selfish, selfless in this match and we got a lot of goals out of it because of that.
Speaker CSo kudos to Barry.
Speaker CI'm gonna just go ahead and say he was my man in the match for this.
Speaker BMy Barry jersey.
Speaker ANice.
Speaker ASo the great Thing about Barry, like you said he was offering a ball up to other players.
Speaker AHe's so strong.
Speaker AI mean I look back and I think of strong, you know people hit in front of the goal is pretty strong.
Speaker AI think of you know MD Myers seemed pretty strong but Barry is not just flat footed strong.
Speaker AHe is on one foot muscling people around and not muscles around which I think really helps us out distributing the ball in here.
Speaker CWell he was, he was, he was getting picked on I'll say because you can see the frustration come out of our players late in game.
Speaker CSure we'll touch on the big incident but the Messer cross ikaza somehow all 5 foot, what 5 of him getting up and scoring ahead of goal in the box.
Speaker CMiguel Berry, one of the craziest celebrations I've ever seen.
Speaker CJust yeah screaming in a guy's face with his hand like cocked right like what are we doing here?
Speaker CSo I think they were taking some cheap shots at him and I'm glad he got a goal and then.
Speaker AGot.
Speaker CTo get back at them a little bit.
Speaker AWell that, that was.
Speaker AI think that he's still on the, on the World cup high of, of Spain winning.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker ASo maybe that was his way of showing it in addition to ikaza.
Speaker ASo the other cool thing is we've.
Speaker AWe had goals from five different people and Casado was the next one.
Speaker AThen as somebody said.
Speaker AWe'll talk about here in a second.
Speaker AWe will talk about now.
Speaker AI re watched a little bit of the match and they said it was the Gordie Howe hat trick.
Speaker AA goal assist and a fight.
Speaker CA solid fight too.
Speaker CTotally necessary to be going at a guy like that.
Speaker CI usually have our guys backs on these and you watch it back and you're like dude, yeah it's four nil.
Speaker CYeah, we like I love going for the ball but there was no chance of getting it and team reacted well I'll say that yeah the team got out there and defended each other but yeah, so dumb and so unnecessary and now we're going to miss a huge time player for a game.
Speaker ASure his goal was spectacular too.
Speaker BI thought it was three games.
Speaker ANo, just I think it's just one on this one.
Speaker AThat's what they were red summer.
Speaker CIt was a straight red so they can appeal but I don't think there's really much to appeal on this one.
Speaker CIt was late, it was through the back of his legs.
Speaker AI think, I think if I have to brush up on this is that if it's violent conduct or that level Then you can get a know three match band.
Speaker ABut if it's a straight red for just what happened there, just a bad foul, then think just one match.
Speaker ASo what did you think of his goal?
Speaker AThat's.
Speaker AI want to talk about his goal because the goal was fantastic.
Speaker AFirst I saw it and I thought as a keeper messed up.
Speaker AThen when they kind of rotated the camera from the far end of the field, you could see the keeper, he would.
Speaker AHe should have had it.
Speaker AAnd it just in that little spot that apparently can't get.
Speaker CIt's where you go, it's where you go to score goals.
Speaker CYou hit them low, you, you create the space for yourself.
Speaker CWe're playing well where guys aren't just standing flat footed so like there's movement so he can take a step and get a yard of space and just what a crack like man, it's one of those like jures like wonder goals that you watch where you look at it and you're like that's.
Speaker CIt's a little further out than I remember.
Speaker ALike yes, it was deep and it was, it had, it had some pace to it, but it was on the ground.
Speaker AI thought it was going too slow.
Speaker ABut then watching from behind, it had a nice little curve, a little bit out and comes off the post.
Speaker AIt gets, gets around.
Speaker AThe keeper's hand is beautiful and it's outside the box and I think that causes keepers to relax a little bit when you got the ball that far out.
Speaker AMaybe, I don't know, Ryan, maybe know more about that.
Speaker BIt just depends on positioning and preference, honestly and what goalkeepers feel most confident.
Speaker BI didn't mind it.
Speaker BI think I thought it was more fun to dive on top of the ball to more of the snakes.
Speaker BBut my favorite diving was always forward diving, sideways diving.
Speaker BIt causes dive sideways.
Speaker BI've always wanted to be up in the air for some because my biggest thing was driving my pinky or my ring finger into the ground and you know, pulling my finger backwards.
Speaker BThat was the biggest thing.
Speaker BSo it's all about that preference.
Speaker CSo maybe he's not married yet and he's saving his ring finger for his wife and he just didn't want to break it yet.
Speaker AMaybe that's what it was.
Speaker BI don't think he just got married though.
Speaker AWhich one?
Speaker CHe hates wife and he wants to break his ring finger and get that ring off of there.
Speaker AI've had enough.
Speaker ATill death do us part or the ring finger breaks.
Speaker AThat's God's way of saying the marriage is over.
Speaker CWell, what do you Think of his back.
Speaker CHe'll pass to Barry.
Speaker AYeah, that's next.
Speaker AYeah, that's fun.
Speaker AThat's fun.
Speaker APlay.
Speaker AYou.
Speaker AYou can play relaxed like that a little bit when you're.
Speaker AWhen you're winning, right?
Speaker CYeah, I don't.
Speaker CI'm glad they don't try goofy like this when we're losing.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker BWhen we're winning, like just play for the play direct.
Speaker BBecause the moment you start doing stuff like that is the moment you invite a player to.
Speaker BTo hit you and to do something just unnecessary.
Speaker BIt's not part of the goal.
Speaker BA lot of people say it's unsportsmanlike.
Speaker BIt really isn't.
Speaker BBut what's that?
Speaker AA back.
Speaker ABack heel to somebody in the box.
Speaker BIn the box or.
Speaker ANo, no.
Speaker AWas excited now who.
Speaker AWho back healed it to Barry?
Speaker AWas it.
Speaker CCause they do.
Speaker CYeah, yeah.
Speaker CI mean Barry was also.
Speaker CThere was 10 yards of him.
Speaker BI agree.
Speaker ANo, no, he.
Speaker ANo.
Speaker AAnd Barry, instead of just like blasting it, he nice and calmly put it in the corner.
Speaker AIs.
Speaker AI mean it was just like something in training and I'm glad he didn't overreact.
Speaker AMaybe he saved that to when he was going to punch the guy in the hit.
Speaker BMakes more sense.
Speaker AOkay.
Speaker AWhat else you want to talk about?
Speaker ATalk about.
Speaker AGo ahead.
Speaker CDo you guys think we're in the right direction now?
Speaker CI mean, it's a one game.
Speaker CThis is literally how we do it every time.
Speaker CIt's a one game reaction.
Speaker CThere's no like consistency buildup from this team.
Speaker ASo who do we play next?
Speaker BPretty loud in here.
Speaker BYou have a good draw against louder at loud.
Speaker AYeah, I'm trying to pull the table.
Speaker B20 When we played it against Brookburn.
Speaker BWe should win that two zero.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker ALoud's not doing too well, are they?
Speaker ABut they're on a two win streak here.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker AIn the 11, which is always tough.
Speaker BAnd lost just Austin Hartford.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker AAnd they drew before those two matches they drew with.
Speaker AWith Tampa Bay.
Speaker COh, man.
Speaker AWe're gonna.
Speaker AWe're gonna have a rough time.
Speaker BIt's one of those trap games too.
Speaker AYeah, it sure is because we.
Speaker AWe beat up on like I said, 4:1.
Speaker AI think this what it looks like just a couple matches ago.
Speaker ASo at least they'll be fresh in our minds.
Speaker AOr not.
Speaker BWhat do you guys think if we come out similar?
Speaker BI'd still like to see a change and.
Speaker BWell, we're going to have a change in the midfield with the ran arrow.
Speaker BSo do we see Kirill back starting?
Speaker AI hope so.
Speaker BI like to see that.
Speaker BI think we're definitely missing a piece like that in the midfield, being strong and able to go through tackles and go through people.
Speaker AWhat about Swan?
Speaker AIs he ever coming back?
Speaker AIs he gone forever?
Speaker BWell, right now they've just qualified for the U20 World cup for USA.
Speaker BCongratulations.
Speaker BAnd they're.
Speaker BI believe they're playing Costa Rica.
Speaker BIt's them.
Speaker BCosta Rica or Mexico.
Speaker BSomebody else in the final four.
Speaker BAll four countries have advanced to the World cup, but all four teams are still playing in their tournament, which is the College Taffy 20 tournament.
Speaker ASo we won't see him until after a couple months?
Speaker BNo, we won't see him.
Speaker AOkay, well, we've done well without him so far in one match.
Speaker ASo any scoring predictions for Saturday night?
Speaker CThis, this game reminds me of a lot of games last year where come off a big win and we're all hyped about it and we go up and maybe one goal is scored.
Speaker CLike we just see a huge scoring prowess from our team.
Speaker CFast play, quick touches.
Speaker CI feel like we're going to revert back to like pass around the back line, maybe get a late header goal from a Messer cross or something.
Speaker CBut I'm gonna go one nil.
Speaker CI hope we can keep another clean sheet.
Speaker CBut this is one of those games where I hope we don't like just completely change our style because it's.
Speaker CIt works.
Speaker CYou have fast guys with fast touches and fast movement.
Speaker CLet them keep playing like that.
Speaker CLike tell them, go do exactly what you just did.
Speaker CLike I don't care if we get scored on.
Speaker CBut you guys go be creative players because that's what you're good at.
Speaker CI don't even care if we lose the game and you guys look amazing.
Speaker CI'd rather keep that momentum and that pace of play and that style of play and just keep going forward the rest of the season.
Speaker AI agree.
Speaker AI think we need to come out with at least a point.
Speaker ASo I'm going to go one one Ryan.
Speaker BI like to zero.
Speaker BI think we can get a clean sheet.
Speaker BI'm not saying that, you know, because of certain people we're not going to get a clean sheet.
Speaker BI think it's even more difficult especially on the road and in a place Leesburg it's kind of tough point up there and they're kind of stating that they have set up and everything.
Speaker BSo I'm going with 2 to 1 battery still win.
Speaker BBut similar to what Pat, I do agree passing around the back more.
Speaker BThey're going to be more relaxed playing on the wingers not as rushed and A late.
Speaker BI'm counting a late second in swinger from Messer for a goal.
Speaker AOkay, very good.
Speaker CYeah, maybe we get Colton Swan just airlifted in 89th minute.
Speaker CJust parachute right into the.
Speaker CThe box and just score.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BScore right on the dive.
Speaker AWe.
Speaker AWe have C17s in Charleston Air Force Base.
Speaker AWe can air drop somebody in.
Speaker BWe do, we do.
Speaker AAnd Marine Corps Base, I think, has some Ospreys, probably landing right there on the pitch.
Speaker AMight have some helicopters, some, you know, Blackhawks.
Speaker AWe can.
Speaker AWe have some.
Speaker AWe have Coast Guard.
Speaker AWe have all sorts of military forces that can bring Colton Swan.
Speaker ASwan in for a swan song kind of game.
Speaker AOkay, guys, that's what we got.
Speaker BAnd we're excited for the next week.
Speaker BAnd then we're back home after that against Pittsburgh, right?
Speaker AI think so.
Speaker CPittsburgh's away, so we'll be back home.
Speaker CThe 22nd versus Miami.
Speaker AYep.
Speaker AThat'll be a good game.
Speaker AHopefully.
Speaker CPittsburgh or Miami.
Speaker AMiami.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker CHow do you feel about Pittsburgh?
Speaker CLet's just go ahead and go through the next few games like.
Speaker CYeah, because it's going to be tough the way teams are playing right now.
Speaker AThe way we're playing right now.
Speaker AI mean.
Speaker AYeah, we're just rolling and we're in.
Speaker AOur away record is horrible.
Speaker CLike, Loudon's going to be tough because that's away.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker CAnd then clearly they're going to come back home and then go back up to Pittsburgh.
Speaker CSo are we going to sneak out of Pittsburgh with anything or are we just going to go ahead and hopefully not lose?
Speaker CBecause Pittsburgh is the same position they usually are.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker CTop table.
Speaker CTop of the table, but not top top.
Speaker CSo, like fifth.
Speaker CThey're in fifth now.
Speaker AFifth.
Speaker CAnd then Miami sixth.
Speaker BYep.
Speaker AAnd we're just sitting just a couple.
Speaker BPittsburgh's coming off, but when a nice road win, too, against Pittsburgh or against Oakland.
Speaker BAnd then now they're going to be starting their home series against Sacramento and.
Speaker AThen the Battery and Pittsburgh's got.
Speaker AThey're only four points behind us, so we're all top five or six.
Speaker AWe're all really tight and close, so if we can come out of Pittsburgh with.
Speaker AWith a point too, I'd be happy.
Speaker CSo we're just looking for draws hopefully to get out of these next two and then.
Speaker AYeah, and then come back, see what.
Speaker CWe can do with Miami at home.
Speaker AYep, that's what I'm.
Speaker AThat's what I'm hoping.
Speaker BYou have a lot of.
Speaker BYou have a lot of teams bouncing around because just like Sacramento, they just suffered a 10 loss last week.
Speaker BTo Tulsa, who's sitting in third.
Speaker BSacramento needs to bounce back on the road as well against Pittsburgh.
Speaker BSo these, these kind of things are starting to come and play for us guys.
Speaker BAs you know, playoffs opening in the next month or so, succeeding is coming into play now.
Speaker AGo ahead.
Speaker CNo, finish your thought.
Speaker CI have a question for you guys to close up on that I'd like to pick your brain on.
Speaker AYeah, my, my every game's a final and we gotta keep playing it like that every.
Speaker ABecause we're so inconsistent, we can't drop our guard down and we just got to go out 100%.
Speaker ANot saying that they don't all the time, but like it's a final match because we've got to keep getting points.
Speaker AWe can't drop points needlessly.
Speaker AWe can't get red cards at 80 minutes.
Speaker AThat's it.
Speaker CAll right, So I wanted to ask you guys because clearly we're seeing a shift kind of in the USL Championship East.
Speaker CDo we now consider the way these last few games.
Speaker CI don't know if you guys watched Tampa Bay, but seeing how they play and how they've come back, win these games or just flat out beat the shit out of some teams.
Speaker CIs Tampa Bay the new Louisville?
Speaker CLike, is Louisville no longer our biggest competition?
Speaker CIs Tampa Bay the king of the table?
Speaker CI mean, theoretically they're in first right now, but I'm saying, has that completely shifted where they've overtaken Louisville?
Speaker BI'd say you'd have another year or two of that before you would kind of take that Louisville title away from them.
Speaker BAnd that mainly comes from the consistency over 10, 11 years where they were able to make consistent Eastern Conference championship games, like appearances.
Speaker BSo for Battery the way or for the Rowdies, the way they're going this year, I applaud them.
Speaker BThey're very fantastic.
Speaker BYou know, they have a few of the Battery players.
Speaker BThey utilize this especially going for the season to, to go and bolster the roster I had indeed picked last year.
Speaker BIt was one of my favorites for a reason.
Speaker BI felt like the Battery could have gotten more out of him than what we got.
Speaker BAnd now he's, he's doing great things.
Speaker BAnd in the Rowdies he scored out last minute winner against, against the Leadville the other night.
Speaker BSeeing that, seeing what they, that team had bought into, what they have going down here in Tampa Bay right now, they're very dangerous, but I still think they're very beatable because just like every team, everyone has mental struggles and they have mental lapses during the games and Create mistakes.
Speaker BCan you be consistent enough and be persistent enough to exploit those?
Speaker CI mean, I mainly, I mainly ask because they just played head to head and Louisville was winning 3 nil.
Speaker CAnd they came back to go ahead and win that game.
Speaker CFive, four.
Speaker CThey're 11 points clear of Louisville.
Speaker CLouisville's in what, fourth now.
Speaker CLike, what are your thoughts?
Speaker CGranite?
Speaker CI mean, I, it's tough.
Speaker CIs it a one time like flash in the pan one season you guys are doing great, but it's not going to be consistent.
Speaker AI, I don't think.
Speaker AI don't see them being consistent the whole season.
Speaker AI don't know if they replace Louis kind of like the perennial top of the table, top team, but they drew with, with Brooklyn at Louisville.
Speaker AYou know, just a couple matches.
Speaker ADragons gotten loud in, you know, so they've been struggling against teams they shouldn't be struggling against that they'd never struggled with in the past.
Speaker AI mean we beat them at home.
Speaker ASo I, I think at least this year I don't see them rising to the top.
Speaker AI could be wrong now.
Speaker APostseason might be a different story, but.
Speaker BRegular season, Sam, my 4.2.
Speaker BSo both postseason also succeeding still and still being that Eastern championship.
Speaker AIt's just one game at a time.
Speaker AWell, that we just need to.
Speaker AI think last couple winners of the league have not been number one seeds.
Speaker AI'm correct.
Speaker APatrick, what do you think?
Speaker CI mean this is, this is their second win over them this year.
Speaker BSo.
Speaker CI don't know.
Speaker CI think it's a club doing things in the right direction.
Speaker CThey were a laughing stock for too long and I think they just went out and said what's going to work?
Speaker CLet's build a little bit of that.
Speaker CThey waited another year.
Speaker CThey went and cleared our house out with guys who have proven themselves to be the top of this league.
Speaker CAdded them and I mean they're not,.
Speaker AI don't.
Speaker CIt's tough to say.
Speaker CLike I, I love the guys that went there and I think they're really good players, but they are aging.
Speaker CSo I don't know if the longevity is there or if this is something they can get into a Eastern Conference final potentially or even the final and get guys to want to come there and build.
Speaker CLike, aren't they building a new stadium there too?
Speaker CLike, or redoing their entire baseball stadium into something else.
Speaker CLike it's an exciting team with a lot of history.
Speaker CWe talk about the Battery.
Speaker CIt's a lot of history for Tampa Bay.
Speaker CI think that plays into it for guys too, of being like, hey, soccer's changing, the landscape's changing in the future.
Speaker COne of these legacy teams, if they start getting better and better for this year, next year, then they're going to be in the top division, they're going to attract more attention.
Speaker CThe stadium will come.
Speaker CThe stadium will be done by then.
Speaker CLike Louisville has a stadium.
Speaker CBut if Louisville is going to start dropping off and like, I don't know, like, I don't know if Louisville is going through injuries or what, but you don't get.
Speaker CLouisville doesn't get swept by teams, definitely doesn't lose to teams at home.
Speaker CSo I don't know.
Speaker CI like what Tampa Bay is doing.
Speaker CI wish we would have kept our players though.
Speaker BYou got to remember too Lil also long as tenure of CAD coach, you know, going into the season.
Speaker AWell, here's the big difference between the two of them and it's.
Speaker AIt sounds obvious, but Louisville's lost seven and Tampa Bay's only lost two.
Speaker ATampa Bay's drawn five and Louisville's only drawn three.
Speaker AAnd we're kind of in a very similar boat as Louisville.
Speaker AThey're just not losing matches.
Speaker AThe close ones, they're.
Speaker AThey're digging a point out of.
Speaker CI mean it all comes down to the playoffs regardless.
Speaker CYeah, but we talk about it time and time again like we've been knocked out by an ac.
Speaker CIt sucks.
Speaker CLike you, you still have to be informed.
Speaker CYou have to bring it.
Speaker CAnd like I see Tampa Bay, the way they play, continuing this, that to the end of the season and going in really hot.
Speaker CLike these players have been there before.
Speaker CThey've done it with the Battery and turn it on to make a big, big run and get to the playoffs.
Speaker CI don't know.
Speaker CI mean, it's something fun to consider just because Louisville has been so dominant in this league for the past four or five years.
Speaker AYeah, let's watch everybody's form because we've always discussed it towards the end of the season.
Speaker AIs it better to be the top of the table going into playoffs and not necessarily being the best form or being number eight seed and going in there we are form getting better and better.
Speaker AOral Cup.
Speaker AI think when you look and watch Spain, they got better through the whole tournament.
Speaker AI think if you watch first couple matches, it was kind of shaky, but then they powered through it.
Speaker ASo it's form over function.
Speaker AThat's my mathematics and it could foster a great relationship.
Speaker AOkay, guys, you have a good very night.
Speaker CToo far.
Speaker BIt's too far.
Speaker AToo far.
Speaker AOkay.
Speaker AToo far.
Speaker ASorry, I'll take that back.
Speaker AHey guys, have a good one.
Speaker BAll right.
Speaker CSee you, boys.
Speaker ABye.
Speaker AWe are lovely, yes, if we will think.
Speaker BBut we are the battle rain.
