Speaker AAnd together they will help fortify and conquer.
Speaker AThey are the Cannon Crew.
Speaker BWelcome to the Can Crew podcast.
Speaker BI am Granite.
Speaker BI am joined again by the ever so responsible and head coach, Ryan.
Speaker CHow you doing, Granite?
Speaker BI'm doing all right.
Speaker BSo how's your coaching adventures going?
Speaker CIt's going great.
Speaker CJust getting ready to kick off another season.
Speaker CGot my first team meeting this weekend and putting them right to work with a workout sheet for the summer.
Speaker BFantastic.
Speaker BSo make sure that they hydrate or die.
Speaker BAnd they do a lot of push ups.
Speaker BI think that's the secret to physical fitness.
Speaker BSuccess.
Speaker CNot far from retested.
Speaker BTried and true, Patrick.
Speaker BAny babies yet?
Speaker DNot yet.
Speaker DNo babies yet.
Speaker BOkay.
Speaker BSo I saw you Sunday in our little victory thing over Southampton.
Speaker BAnd it's getting close.
Speaker DWe're close.
Speaker DReal close.
Speaker CTwo weeks.
Speaker DIt's God's plan.
Speaker BHey, you know the due date.
Speaker BJust an estimate anyways.
Speaker BIt's just an estimate.
Speaker BI mean, it's not even until they implement AI on figuring out due dates.
Speaker BIt's just.
Speaker BIt's just a guesstimate.
Speaker CWell, I mean, or swag.
Speaker BWe'll call it swag.
Speaker CMy wife and I were in the hospital for almost a week before he came out.
Speaker CFor our one came out, she was 41 weeks.
Speaker DYeah, we are.
Speaker DWe are eight days away from expected due date.
Speaker DSo we're in the window.
Speaker BWindow?
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BYou are the window.
Speaker BYou the window.
Speaker BOkay, so let's talk.
Speaker BStop talking about babies.
Speaker BLet's talk about the Charleston Battery.
Speaker BAnd they did pretty well this weekend.
Speaker BWe didn't get to attend it.
Speaker BWe tried to, but the flight got canceled.
Speaker BSo all three of us had to watch from our comfort of our living rooms.
Speaker BAnd it was kind of a fun WhatsApp conversation going on the whole time.
Speaker BBut first, I want to talk about big things that happened.
Speaker BRight.
Speaker BBecause we don't talk about this whole lot.
Speaker BSo pyramid.
Speaker BYou got team of the week, coach.
Speaker BRight.
Speaker BFor seven consecutive leagues.
Speaker BVictory.
Speaker BYou think it would happen before then, but.
Speaker CRight.
Speaker CYou think these are.
Speaker BThese are victories.
Speaker BThese are wins.
Speaker BThese are W's.
Speaker BThird in the green.
Speaker BNot draws, but victories.
Speaker BCal, I think this is his fourth team of the week, right?
Speaker CYep.
Speaker BChampionship record with nine consecutive games with a goal contribution.
Speaker BAnd this time.
Speaker BThis time he had a brace again.
Speaker BAnd then my favorite Juan de Viator is second time as team of the week.
Speaker BAnd if you look back, got me thinking, looking back, and MD's been on it a couple times and he wasn't this week but he provided an assist.
Speaker BIt's pretty cool that our players are like turning out these, these team of the weeks.
Speaker BI don't know who the other people because other teams suck.
Speaker BSo I don't know why they don't fill it out with all 11 of our teammates.
Speaker BBut anyways.
Speaker BSo Patrick, what's your thoughts on the game?
Speaker BJust generally.
Speaker DVery scared to start and then very relaxed ish going forward once that third goal went in.
Speaker DRelax a little more.
Speaker DBut that would be, that would be general thoughts.
Speaker DYou also forgot to mention we now have the lead leader for goals and tied for league leader and assist with Juan David.
Speaker BBoth of them.
Speaker BSo Cal's got league leader goals.
Speaker BI think he's 11 to nine, right.
Speaker BAnd then Juan Davies got five.
Speaker BSo he's leading the league and assist.
Speaker BAnd we're gonna talk, I'm gonna talk a lot more about Juan David and enlist your guys thoughts about his incredible play.
Speaker BI think he's the most unrarived player in the USL right now.
Speaker BSo first let's talk about their stadium.
Speaker DIt's something.
Speaker DThere's a train, it's a train to back.
Speaker BI mean it's very, it's very Detroit.
Speaker BIt's like industrial.
Speaker BWe needed some smokestacks to just top it all off.
Speaker BAnd some cars, some old, you know, Chrysler sitting in the background.
Speaker BPatrick at one point come with the idea, hey let's get one of those houses.
Speaker BWe can buy them dirt cheap and turn it into a big pirate ship.
Speaker BAnd so the next, every time we, we have to play up there we get to shoot cannons off the front of it and just have a big battery party on the pirate ship right outside the stadium.
Speaker BTurns out I think it's high school, maybe old high school stadium or something like that.
Speaker BRyan, what's your general thoughts on the match?
Speaker CI was, I was quite, I was actually quite surprised by the battery and the consistency that we're displaying out on the pitch.
Speaker CI and I'm all for it.
Speaker CI can't believe the work ethic, the attitude and the response by our players.
Speaker CIt's absolutely extraordinary and fantastic to have not only early in the season but after suffering those two losses in the first month and then to rebound and go seven straight.
Speaker CI mean we started 0 and 2, right?
Speaker BWe did, yeah.
Speaker CStarted oh and 2 and 7 straight.
Speaker CSo think that we're just playing absolutely great soccer.
Speaker CI think we had a win in between the losses.
Speaker CNow I'm thinking about but just to have that consistency and display about trusting the process, trusting in who your coach is, who your other players are, and having the entire team involved or involved.
Speaker CThat 12th man for the Battery is truly alive this year.
Speaker BThat 12th man snuck up to Detroit and did a little there on their numbers.
Speaker BSo they were fifth.
Speaker BRight.
Speaker BIn the standings.
Speaker BAnd if you listen to announcers, and by the way, those announcers suck.
Speaker BAnd if you guys, you know, announcers, if you can't like do your job to do something else because you guys really shrunk because the whole time they were just talking about the Battery the whole time, how great Detroit was.
Speaker BAnd turns out that, you know, they score a goal early.
Speaker BI think it was the reason why Coach Pierman was coach of the week or player or coach of the week on the team, because I think he planned that.
Speaker BI think we said, we let, let Chapman, former player, put in a goal and then a couple minutes later we equalize.
Speaker BSo let's talk about the first.
Speaker DSure.
Speaker DThat was the plan.
Speaker DLet's.
Speaker DLet's let Chapman get that goal.
Speaker BJust giving those Detroit people, just give those Detroit people the smiles and the grids and the smirks on their faces and then ripping it away from them and then beating them with it later on.
Speaker BThat's priceless.
Speaker BThat is priceless.
Speaker DThey beat us in the first two minutes of the game and they definitely beat our 12th man in smoke bombs.
Speaker DI'll say that you're talking about the Chrysler factory and just getting the smokestacks.
Speaker DI would hate to be in that stadium.
Speaker DIt's just everyone, they're zooming in on people and it's just face masks, scarves, trying to breathe.
Speaker DIt looked like Covid years out there.
Speaker DEveryone's just coming.
Speaker BThat's because it's cold as up there.
Speaker BIt's cold as up there, you know, but.
Speaker DBut they did, they did flares going off in their face, but they had.
Speaker BTheir flares were color coordinated.
Speaker BI thought that was pretty cool.
Speaker BSo.
Speaker BSo let's talk about the first goal.
Speaker BSo.
Speaker BSo what, Ryan, I want to ask you as a keeper.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker BWhen you're a keeper and a cross comes in or a corner comes in, what's the decision point?
Speaker BTo come out and punch it away or stay in in the box?
Speaker CSo here's the hard part.
Speaker CIt's that if the player is coming down the side and he hits the baseline or comes inside that six yard box to the baseline and he hits it across, it's almost a guarantee that the keeper has to play the ball and has to go for it.
Speaker CThings that players have started to master, though, is that left, if they're coming on the left side, is using your left foot to do an outer curl so it goes towards the goal, but then curls outside of the six away from the keeper.
Speaker CSo then it's a free header.
Speaker CThat's called a fool's ball.
Speaker CThe reason that it's usually called that or keepers kind of name it that is because it tricks you into going for it, biting on it, and you're not going to get to it.
Speaker CThat that's similar to what's happening.
Speaker CWhat happened here.
Speaker COther than that, though, I think the keeper definitely could have been able to punch it away and he misplaced.
Speaker CHe just mistimed his jump.
Speaker BBoom.
Speaker BSo I watched it a couple times and you can see Nate.
Speaker BNate was lined up to head it away and Chapman come flying up behind him.
Speaker BSo Nate didn't even know he was coming up behind him.
Speaker BArturo was on.
Speaker BOn Jay's back, but it seemed like, I don't know.
Speaker BI'm not a keeper.
Speaker BI tried to watch it to see what.
Speaker BWhat decision making is going on in keeper's head.
Speaker BSo I don't know if he just saw it and didn't see Chapman coming, going like, okay, we've got this covered.
Speaker BI don't know.
Speaker CYou see, that's the.
Speaker CAs a keeper, the idea that you would want to have the ideal position you'd want to have your defenders in is having their backs kind of caddy cornered, so they're almost facing their own sideline with their chest open.
Speaker CSo that way they can have that peripheral vision to look over their shoulder and see.
Speaker CAnd that since Nate was so squared off to where the ball was and his body was his focus on the ball, there was that miscommunication right off the bat.
Speaker CIn the first two minutes of, hey, Chapman's coming in behind you.
Speaker CThere was none of that communication.
Speaker CAll eyes were on the ball to start.
Speaker CSo I felt like that lack of urgency communication from the start, missing that and then conceding early just fired these boys up.
Speaker BSo we get.
Speaker BWe gave them false hope and then come back a couple minutes later.
Speaker BPatrick, talk us through the goal that we scored.
Speaker DIt was awesome.
Speaker DIt was a great response.
Speaker DThis is a play that if you watch it back, the ball goes out of bounds and you can see maybe two players want to kind of take it slow, but Juan David is like, give me the ball, give me the ball.
Speaker DGive me the ball.
Speaker DReceives the ball quickly.
Speaker DThe defense is not set.
Speaker DMakes a great ball through and we're in for a shot on goal, and it goes in.
Speaker DSo it's like that.
Speaker DThe urgency the boys are just playing with right after giving up that goal is what you want to see from your team.
Speaker DAnd this time it works.
Speaker DAnd I think that really boosted the boys to give them confidence to keep going and get a couple more.
Speaker DBecause one thing Detroit did that I was scared of was take a lot of shots and get a lot of open looks that they just flat out miss.
Speaker DSo, yeah, I don't know if we didn't get a goal that quickly, if it would be the same outcome, but that urgency definitely played a huge part.
Speaker BSo a lot of times we talk about scoring that first goal because it sets you up, makes the other team maybe come off their game plan a little bit.
Speaker BAnd some.
Speaker BMaybe that goal was too early for him, or maybe we're just that good.
Speaker BWe just.
Speaker BJuan David was on fire.
Speaker BHe's always on fire.
Speaker BBut this was great exposition of him, you know, moving the ball around, being in the right place and seeing the field in front of him and just everybody being in the right place.
Speaker BAnd it happened quickly.
Speaker BNow, the rest of the first half, we were shit, but at that moment, that just put us back at level footing and just helped out so much.
Speaker DI mean, yeah, you.
Speaker DYou also.
Speaker DYou're giving the guy with the hot hand, so to say, getting the ball at his feet and just.
Speaker DI think he went near post on that and just beat the keeper, just flat out smashed it.
Speaker DSo, I mean, it was a tricky angle, but 1v1, the confidence is there.
Speaker DThat's why he's leading the league in goals.
Speaker CAnd you also got to look at it like this, too.
Speaker CWe.
Speaker CI kind of mentioned a little bit about this in the last season when we were going through it, but it makes sense, right, for Pierman at the beginning of the season to look at what points we dropped.
Speaker CRight.
Speaker CSo if you look at both.
Speaker CBoth times we played Detroit last year, we lost two to zero.
Speaker CWe tied two to two.
Speaker CSo we lost five points against them.
Speaker CWe only gained one point this year.
Speaker CThose games are like this Detroit game in Detroit had stars all around it circled in six different colors and highlighted through this.
Speaker CWas that important?
Speaker CAnd you could just see it on these players faces, that urgency, the urgent.
Speaker CLike Pat, we both said the urgency was there, but it was consistent throughout the entire game that they wanted to just stomp on them after.
Speaker CAnd especially after that goal.
Speaker CLike, we wasted zero time making sure that they were not ahead.
Speaker DYeah, I mean, that goal by Cal really kind of set the tone.
Speaker DBut then the second goal that we see right before half by Cal again is just.
Speaker DIt's my goal this season.
Speaker DI don't have to see another one.
Speaker DThis is what you're taught as a kid, how you play as a team, how you move the ball up a field and just pick apart any defense on the planet with that and it shows is beautiful.
Speaker CI love that from you love that.
Speaker BWell, showed the build up of the plate.
Speaker BEven though I don't think we were the strongest in the first half, it showed that we were the tenacity and staying with it and you know, and putting the ball forward and still even though we were making some shit passes and everything else in the first half, it showed how well we keep going and how strong the team is because we just don't give up now.
Speaker DYeah, that's.
Speaker BYou don't see that in there.
Speaker DThat second goal showed how diverse we are as a team.
Speaker DLike we don't just have to long ball it like most teams.
Speaker DWe don't have to just stick to wing play.
Speaker DWe don't have to slow build up.
Speaker DWe can play a quick Tiki Taco if we really need to.
Speaker DIf and move the ball fast and just open teams up.
Speaker DI mean I don't know what you guys saw that goal but I.
Speaker DThat's my favorite.
Speaker DThat's up there with the Juan David.
Speaker BHalf field shot like so the amazing thing.
Speaker BSo Juan David cuts.
Speaker BHe gets up the halfline, right.
Speaker BAnd.
Speaker BAnd he cuts through several players with his passing and seems like midfielders that have that ability to really put some weight behind the ball and direct it through that midfield just set us up and MD got the assist on this one if I remember correctly.
Speaker BAnd his one touch the Cal off that ball was just fantastic.
Speaker BAnd then Cal just.
Speaker BHe took it and I was like, oh man, he's cutting down the angle and he just put it away.
Speaker BI mean he just.
Speaker BFantastic shot.
Speaker DYeah.
Speaker DDid he do the MD celebration on that one or was that the first one where you did finger gun?
Speaker CYeah, I think.
Speaker BWas it the first one?
Speaker BI can't remember which one it was.
Speaker CI can't remember which one it was either.
Speaker BI think it's the second.
Speaker BThe one.
Speaker BThe first one.
Speaker BIt was the one that V.
Speaker BYou know, Google's the goggle things so we'll have to figure out what.
Speaker BWhere that's coming from.
Speaker BBut yeah, so.
Speaker BAnd it's fun to see that excitement in the players when you know, Count's been scoring goals a lot.
Speaker BBut still to See him so excited about scoring goals and everybody coming over to give a high five to all the players that are involved with it, I think is incredible.
Speaker BIt's a testament to the team how they're playing together.
Speaker CAnd you can see, like, you watch videos back in his time at Tampa, and you see like, he's got teammates there.
Speaker CIt's just.
Speaker CYou want to.
Speaker CYou want to think it's not the same, but you can look at it and you can easily tell he's enjoying himself much, much more.
Speaker CAnd it means more to him, where he's at and how he's playing right now compared to how he was at Tampa.
Speaker CTampa.
Speaker CHe wanted to be the legend, wanted to get everything through, but they just didn't have the support that team with him.
Speaker CNow that he's left, he's now found that and knows how to be a part of it.
Speaker CAnd it's like, I've been missing this my whole childhood, and he's like a new kid in the candy store.
Speaker CJust so happy to be there, just so happy to be a part of everything.
Speaker CLike, you're gonna give me a goal, I'll do your celebration.
Speaker CYour celebration.
Speaker CYour celebration.
Speaker CYou get an assist.
Speaker CYou get an assist.
Speaker CYou know, just.
Speaker CHe's just loving it.
Speaker CIt's so fun to watch.
Speaker BThat is fantastic.
Speaker BThat is absolutely a great way to look at it, because that's exactly what he's doing, right?
Speaker BI.
Speaker BWould you help me out?
Speaker BI want to get.
Speaker BDo your celebration.
Speaker BYou help me out.
Speaker BI'm going to give you your celebration.
Speaker BAnd I love the synergy that's going on because they went up there, you know, the concrete pitch that maybe had had some crazy lines on it that I was complaining about the whole time, because I don't think it's laws of the game allow what kind of pitch they're playing on.
Speaker BI don't think that white touch line that, that at one point, Nate went to do a throw in, and obviously he thought the kind of erased line was the throw in the touchline.
Speaker BAnd then they backed him up.
Speaker BAnd then if you look at the penalty spots, oh, my God, they're nice spots.
Speaker BThose are penalty dashes.
Speaker BI don't think they're.
Speaker BI.
Speaker BI don't see anywhere in the laws of the game that allows that, but maybe I'm wrong.
Speaker BBut anyways, for our players to go up there, because we often talk about turf versus grass and that transition for us, and it.
Speaker BWe were just on it in the second half.
Speaker BWe were just rocking and rolling at that point.
Speaker DYeah, I Mean, turf usually throws us off our game a hundred percent.
Speaker DAnd like you said in our group chat, we were just going off of like, is this gonna be another game that we just can't figure it out on turf?
Speaker DBut that first goal, that quick response, kind of put that to bed.
Speaker DAnd then we watched our.
Speaker DI mean, the passes were still off, so we still watched a game where the passes.
Speaker DI don't know, they.
Speaker DIf they seem like the turf's going to take it in a few yards in a different direction, but they're.
Speaker DThey were just either behind or like, way off.
Speaker DSo eventually they got together.
Speaker DBut, yeah, I.
Speaker DI'll just say I'm never talking about defenders again on this podcast if it's just going to turn into goals in a minute and 30 seconds into the game against us.
Speaker DNo more hype, no more hyper.
Speaker BI.
Speaker BI swear it was a plan.
Speaker CScored on.
Speaker CWhy do you.
Speaker CIt's like you guys always ask me, why do I always pick us to get scored on?
Speaker CIt's like, I just.
Speaker CIt's just a simple.
Speaker CIt's literally all.
Speaker CIt is a simple transition for me.
Speaker CAnd the fact that you have to respect other teams because they wouldn't be at the same professional level that we are.
Speaker DRight.
Speaker COr that that battery is okay.
Speaker DThat's just coming from a Wolves fan.
Speaker DAlways respecting everyone else.
Speaker BAnd this wasn't their goal.
Speaker BWasn't a transition.
Speaker BIt was.
Speaker BIt was the set piece.
Speaker BIt was a set piece.
Speaker BSo it has nothing to do with your theory.
Speaker CHow many.
Speaker BOh, I want to throw out one thing.
Speaker BSay again.
Speaker CHow many trophies did Arsenal win this year?
Speaker CSame as Wolves.
Speaker DNo, we got a Champions League trophy.
Speaker BOh, no.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker DWoman's.
Speaker BI want to.
Speaker DHe's at Arsenal.
Speaker DYou don't respect women's sports there, Ryan, come on.
Speaker CHey, at least.
Speaker CAt least I'll be fair to this, though, Elise.
Speaker CArsenal is fair and loves their women's team because Wolves didn't even allow their women's team to be promoted into the top flight for women's team this year.
Speaker CLike, for the women's prem this year.
Speaker DYeah.
Speaker CThey're like, we don't want to pay for you guys to get promoted or apply for you guys to be promoted.
Speaker DI think we gotta wait for.
Speaker DAll right.
Speaker DHis headphones are back on.
Speaker DHe's.
Speaker DHe can't talk.
Speaker DBut we are going to move on to Brad's favorite segment of the night.
Speaker BWait, so did.
Speaker BWas he.
Speaker BIt was when.
Speaker BWhile I was away.
Speaker BWas he talking about how the Wolves are when we meet them in Championship League group stage next Year that they're going to beat us.
Speaker DHe said Wolves are so poor they can't afford to have their women play.
Speaker CYeah, that.
Speaker CNo, we couldn't afford.
Speaker CWe didn't want to afford.
Speaker CWe couldn't afford and didn't want to pay for our women's team to be promoted.
Speaker CLike, we didn't want to apply for it either.
Speaker CLike, they won the League and everything, they're about to get promoted and we just didn't want to promote them.
Speaker BWell, that's very sexist.
Speaker BI think I'd pick another team pretty bad.
Speaker BRoot, did you mention Arsenal women won Champions League?
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker DTrouble?
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker DI don't know.
Speaker BSo let's.
Speaker BLet's go back to something not as much fun, but really cool.
Speaker BAnd so we're talking trash on our little WhatsApp group.
Speaker BAnd then halftime came, and then there was talk about they got a really cool beer commercial.
Speaker BPastor, you point that out.
Speaker BIt was pretty cool that.
Speaker BI think it was a Strohs commercial.
Speaker DIt was.
Speaker DIt was.
Speaker BIt had all the Detroit terrible beer.
Speaker DBut a great commercial.
Speaker DYeah.
Speaker BMaybe the battery should learn from that.
Speaker BI don't know.
Speaker DI mean, it's cool.
Speaker DIt's cool to see little fan engagement.
Speaker DGet them into a commercial that's just going to be shown during your matches on probably what they thought was their local tv, but obviously ESPN doesn't know how to figure out geography, so we get theirs.
Speaker DBut it was cool.
Speaker DI mean, it's fun to see it.
Speaker DYou want to see your club do stuff with the fans, get them more involved.
Speaker DAnd I think everyone in the Championship can learn from this.
Speaker DI mean, it's.
Speaker DIt's just something that kind of builds your.
Speaker DBuild your fan base, build your interest level.
Speaker DEverything.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BSo cheers.
Speaker BCheers to the local breweries that brew beer for us fans to drink while we're watching.
Speaker DAll right, after you finish that, you gotta go get on a special hat for the moment we've been waiting for.
Speaker BHang on.
Speaker DThis is where we need a little bit of Colombian music as we wait.
Speaker CMaybe some Jagermeister, too, while we wait.
Speaker BOkay, I'm listening.
Speaker BGo ahead.
Speaker DNow, I believe Rodriguez was trying to just get thrown on the ground for a penalty, but instead he passed the ball to a certain someone.
Speaker BWho's someone.
Speaker BAnd what a goal it was, Right?
Speaker BHe's chilling out there, doing his thing here.
Speaker BLet me get an assist and a awesome goal.
Speaker BRyan, jump in on it anytime.
Speaker CI mean, it was.
Speaker CIt was absolutely beautiful.
Speaker CDeserves every bit of it.
Speaker CAnd it's nothing short of what he's already shown that he is able to do with his abilities and his skill set.
Speaker CWe're going to be seeing this stuff all year long and it's only going to get better.
Speaker BAnd it's like I've said, he finds himself.
Speaker BHe doesn't find himself.
Speaker BHe works himself into fantastic, fantastic positions where he is just in space.
Speaker BHe's the right place, right time.
Speaker BHe's been doing it all season.
Speaker BI think it's only get better and better and better.
Speaker BIf not what, what teams will start doing is, is double teaming him and it's going to pull people off from.
Speaker COther players which makes no sense because then you have the golden boot runner up front.
Speaker CYou're going to double, double mark him.
Speaker CYou double mark those two guys alone.
Speaker CI mean then you got MD free.
Speaker CI mean you're going to have people free then taking shots from outside the box because we all know that USL loves taking shots from our flight.
Speaker CWhoops.
Speaker CDamn.
Speaker CWe sound about V Ray destination.
Speaker BThat's fantastic.
Speaker BSo anyways, while we wait on Ryan to return to quell his beast.
Speaker BSo second half was much better than the first half.
Speaker BI think we controlled the ball and also Detroit's getting beat down at this point.
Speaker BBut we were more in control of the situation and possession was ours.
Speaker BEven though if you look at the stats, possession throughout the game was, was pretty even compared to what we normally do.
Speaker BBut I think we did much better in the second half to controlling the game.
Speaker BWhat do you think?
Speaker DYeah, I mean it's, it's not that it was completely shut down because they did have open opportunities where they just blatantly missed like what two back door wide open headers where they just thank God they weren't on their game as much as we were on ours.
Speaker DBut yeah, it's not a team that's that crazy.
Speaker DDefensively if they did get a goal we were still going to go in control the ball up on their third and just get another chance.
Speaker DGet another chance.
Speaker DSo I mean we worked them.
Speaker DWe definitely worked them.
Speaker DI was surprised we didn't get another goal or two from how well our play was starting to build up.
Speaker DBut three, three is a good, good amount.
Speaker BWe had, we had four shots on target so we got, we, we converted three of the four and I don't what's the stat that Detroit hadn't lost at home since last August.
Speaker BSo we went up there and took care of that record for them.
Speaker CI mean their announcers want to say how good they are.
Speaker CI mean they're the only team with more than 3 kais in the season.
Speaker CI mean, they literally have, what was it, five or six ties in the season.
Speaker DThere's five.
Speaker CYeah, yeah, five ties on the season.
Speaker CI mean.
Speaker BSo now you're getting me fired up.
Speaker BGot the announcers again because they're.
Speaker BIf you're gonna talk great things about a team.
Speaker CThis is fun.
Speaker BI know.
Speaker BAll right.
Speaker BAnd I'm trying to.
Speaker BI'm trying to be good about Detroit because here's a couple things I wrote down about their stadium.
Speaker BRight?
Speaker BThey did great use of containers at the end.
Speaker BYou notice the 40 foot containers that.
Speaker BLike that, right?
Speaker BThat's something we've also have at Patriots point.
Speaker BOkay.
Speaker BThat was it.
Speaker BSo the other thing that I was kind of bitching about, the damn camera angles.
Speaker BI don't know what it is.
Speaker BYou can't see the touch line.
Speaker BWell, you can see the fake, the false touch, not touchline, but you can't see the real touch line.
Speaker BAnd they need to just lift the cameras up a little bit.
Speaker CNow who.
Speaker CNow whose camera work is better, Rhode island or Detroit?
Speaker BThe first Rhode island match, Detroit hands down.
Speaker BBut I think Rhode Island's got a little bit better this time.
Speaker BIt just.
Speaker BIt's just I.
Speaker BAnd I know they're.
Speaker BThey're working with what they have, and.
Speaker BAnd it's great to reuse stadiums and they're not building new ones that cost a lot of money, but just put some sandbags underneath it or something, I don't know, next to the field, something.
Speaker CIt's a good recommendation.
Speaker BYou want to pull out some more things about.
Speaker BI was talking about.
Speaker DNo, zoom.
Speaker DStop zooming in on everything.
Speaker COh, my goodness.
Speaker CMess up a lot.
Speaker BDo they have a button it just says zoom?
Speaker BAnd then all of a sudden it's in somebody's face.
Speaker DLike, we got to zoom this.
Speaker BWhat it seemed like right when the.
Speaker DBall'S still being played or like a dangerous attack and someone passes it and they're like, no, you already zoomed in.
Speaker DWe got to see that guy.
Speaker DWe got to see him.
Speaker BOkay, Ryan, you work on the zoom thing.
Speaker BSo let's quickly talk about my favorite subject right now.
Speaker BCan we see it?
Speaker BJer Meister cup, right?
Speaker BThis little cup.
Speaker BSo that's our next match on Saturday, and it is at home, and it's against Gville G.
Speaker BVegas.
Speaker BThe Triumph.
Speaker CGreenville Triumph.
Speaker DYeah.
Speaker BFirst.
Speaker DFirst home game for us, too, in Jagermeister.
Speaker DSo we've already played one and we lost, unfortunately.
Speaker DBut what do you think?
Speaker DYou think we can easily win this one back at home?
Speaker DFans in front of it?
Speaker CI think it's going to be a good match.
Speaker CI would actually be.
Speaker CI'm going to be surprised if, honestly, if Christian's not starting in, If CG is not starting in goal.
Speaker CI think he has done right in training and done right in the field, being that positive extra keeper.
Speaker CAnd I believe that he's should be earning his minutes.
Speaker CAnd this is a game where he can show why he has made this move to the Battery, why the Battery went out and seeked him and brought him into this team in this culture.
Speaker CAnd I think that he has everything, all the means to take us above into victory on Saturday.
Speaker CAnd I.
Speaker CIf he is playing, I'm going with a shutout.
Speaker DWhat?
Speaker BWait a second.
Speaker BThe shutout?
Speaker BReally?
Speaker BOkay.
Speaker DDo you think we're going to have a strong lineup comparable to Detroit, seeing that we are currently sitting bottom of the group in sixth place?
Speaker CYes.
Speaker CBut since we're in bottom of the group, the only thing I see is switching out that some people may worry would be switching our keepers out.
Speaker CEverything else would be full throttle.
Speaker COur best lineups going out because it's.
Speaker CIt's a must win.
Speaker CAnd then you go local 1020 at halftime and then you can start selling some players.
Speaker CI think that's exactly how it's going to be.
Speaker CWe're going to handle them in the first half and then we can do what we want to do in a second.
Speaker CBut this Greenville team though, they.
Speaker CIt's not like they are nobodies.
Speaker CYou know, they got some people on their team now who may or may not be just on the loan sent to the club to help them for certain tournaments like this.
Speaker CYou know, I really.
Speaker CWe Soto, didn't we?
Speaker CYeah, we gave them.
Speaker CSo we loaned soda to him to Greenville.
Speaker CNow I'm not sure if Soto's allowed to play against us since we still technically own Soto.
Speaker CNot sure if he's allowed to play, but if he is, that's another familiar face.
Speaker CAnd then there's two to three other players who were in USL Championship either last season that we played against or two seasons ago.
Speaker CThose players have come in back from overseas and they're ready to make a imprint and get themselves back into USL Championship again.
Speaker BOkay, Patrick, what's your prediction?
Speaker BScore protection?
Speaker DI mean, I'd like to say 3 0, but we kind of have a toss up history with Greenville triumph.
Speaker DSo I will say one nil, we'll get one out and I'll say super sub JK gets one.
Speaker CYo.
Speaker BOkay, Brian.
Speaker CLike that.
Speaker CAll right, so if CG's if CG's in goal, yep.
Speaker CGoing 40.
Speaker DIs not going to be in goal.
Speaker CIf CG's in goal.
Speaker CIf CG's in Goal.
Speaker BJenny C, A L Jennings calginities.
Speaker BNo Ryan go back.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker CIf Christian's a goal, 4 0, he's not in goal.
Speaker CI'm going with the 2 to 1 win.
Speaker BSo I'm gonna go three now and I'm gonna.
Speaker BMD's coming back with a vengeance.
Speaker BHe's got a brace.
Speaker BThen of course Juan David's gonna score worldly and CG is going to be in goal and get a shutout.
Speaker BEasy clean sheet.
Speaker DI would like to see Rodriguez bang one in.
Speaker DI think he's been an incredible form and deserves to get one eventually.
Speaker CWith all the assistance I have him scoring this week.
Speaker CI would love to see him score.
Speaker COn Saturday I had him pick to score.
Speaker CI have him pick to score, AAZA to score, MD to score and Torres to score.
Speaker CI have Cal Jennings not possibly coming into the game for this one.
Speaker BArturo is on fire.
Speaker BHe.
Speaker BHe adds a different element, a different bit that, that Juan David on the other side.
Speaker BIt's like they're kind of the yin and yang thing.
Speaker BAnd I think it works out so well.
Speaker CSo well apologize because last year I talked a lot of crap about him.
Speaker CBeginning of the season, I talked a lot of crap about him.
Speaker CI wanted him out.
Speaker CI, I would, you know, if he left, I wouldn't have been mad or anything, but I just couldn't see it from him.
Speaker CRight?
Speaker CEverybody, every coach, everybody has different opinions about players, right?
Speaker CSo, like if a current youth player right now goes to a D1 coach, D1 coach could tell him how great of a player he is.
Speaker CYet he could go to a different school.
Speaker CIt'd be a D3 school.
Speaker CAnd that coach tells him he's.
Speaker CHe's crap.
Speaker CHe doesn't want him.
Speaker CIt's just difference of opinions and stuff like that.
Speaker CAnd when I was looking at Arturo last year, I just couldn't see it.
Speaker CAnd then now in the last six, seven games, this run that we've had, I.
Speaker CI truly see it now.
Speaker CI see why we've kept him.
Speaker CI see what type of player he has stepped into, stepped in to become this yin and yang role like Granite has said.
Speaker CAnd he is on fire.
Speaker CAnd he's absolutely making this extraordinary jump from where he was last year in my eyes.
Speaker BAnd I think it was there.
Speaker BHe's.
Speaker BNow he has more time, he has more minutes, he has more exposure, you know, is.
Speaker BI think it was always there now, like I said, he's just got more time.
Speaker BHe's got time out there on the pitch and he doesn't necessarily have to fear for his position because he's playing so well, and it just adds that confidence.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker BOkay, kickoff is at six, Patriots point.
Speaker CYes.
Speaker CSix o' clock, Patriots point.
Speaker BSo we all should have a pint beforehand.
Speaker BUnless we have, like, babies on the way.
Speaker BI mean, when we say on the way, we mean actually, you've got to send pictures of you inside the hospital way.
Speaker BOh, Ryan, you have no excuse.
Speaker BYou're free and single.
Speaker BThat was your opportunity to say, no, I'm not.
Speaker CNo, no, I'm not.
Speaker CI looked at you like I thought you were gonna say something, though.
Speaker BNope, that was it.
Speaker BI was gonna leave you hanging.
Speaker BI think that's all I have.
Speaker BOh, no, I do have one more thing.
Speaker BSo, Ryan.
Speaker COh, yes.
Speaker BWhat?
Speaker BSo I've been so delayed in getting the.
Speaker BThe interview out with C.
Speaker BCG that we did last week, and so when you hear.
Speaker BIt's inside of a pub, you hear the music in the background.
Speaker BFantastic interview.
Speaker BIt was just really eye opening for me.
Speaker BAnd then tomorrow we're gonna do.
Speaker CAnother player interview.
Speaker CThis player interview, it's going to be with a.
Speaker CHuh?
Speaker BIt's the opposition player, right?
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker CIt's going to be a player who is currently on loan to Greenville.
Speaker CNo, it is not the Battery player, Soto.
Speaker CIt's a different player.
Speaker CHe played in USL two years ago for Pittsburgh and then he went out on.
Speaker COn a new deal with Carol Gate Town FC in England.
Speaker CPlayed League two soccer there for two years and now he's back stateside and signed a loan deal with Greenville, trying to get back into the USL Championship.
Speaker CSo I think it's going to be a great interview.
Speaker CIt's going to be great for me seeing him again because this used to be my former captain in college all four years, so love him to bits and just super excited for him to get this opportunity again.
Speaker DFreebie.
Speaker DThat's really cool for whoever comes up to him and tells them the name of the player.
Speaker BYes.
Speaker BOkay, y' all, that's a half.
Speaker CAll right.
Speaker CAll right.
Speaker DMaybe see you guys Saturday.
Speaker BMaybe.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker DYeah.
Speaker BI'm on a.
Speaker DJust a clicking bomb over here, you know.
Speaker BK.
Speaker DLove break your ship.
Speaker BWe will take but we are the battle Rain.
