Hey all! I'm trying to get this out with very spotty communications and on vaca!
Granit
If we take over to the 90th minute, Sebastian Vivas from the spot saved by Ghana.
Speaker BAnd the follow up is over by Alves.
Speaker BWelcome to Canon Crew podcast discussing the Charleston Battery.
Speaker BGet the extra point.
Speaker BYour host, Granite will be joined by Garner from the black and yellow supporters section and that help fortify and Charleston Battery getting the extra points.
Speaker CWelcome to the K crew.
Speaker CI am granted.
Speaker CAnd I am joining you from way down south in Georgia.
Speaker CThe devil went.
Speaker CAnd I'm joined by Patrick.
Speaker CAre you Patrick?
Speaker ATired?
Speaker AI'm living, so.
Speaker CWelcome to life, young man.
Speaker CWelcome to life, Ryan.
Speaker BDoing great, Grant.
Speaker BHow are you?
Speaker CI'm doing all right.
Speaker CI hear buzzing.
Speaker CWhat is that?
Speaker CIs that the drones?
Speaker CAre the drones after you?
Speaker BNo, it's my computer fan.
Speaker BIt's a little, you know, old computer.
Speaker BSo I'm just waiting.
Speaker BWaiting to get an upgrade here soon.
Speaker CFor the whole computer or just the fan, huh?
Speaker CWell, I. I edit all that fan noise out, but now everybody knows.
Speaker CYou got a fan noise.
Speaker CNope.
Speaker BThanks.
Speaker ACould be a weed whacker.
Speaker CThe weed whacker.
Speaker CWell, he said it was.
Speaker CIt sounded like it was drones coming in from some foreign land to talk to him about goalkeeper.
Speaker CTalk to him about goalkeeping, coach.
Speaker CTalk to us about that Ryan from.
Speaker BKrishna Gardner in the last match.
Speaker CNo, about you.
Speaker CYou're supposed to talk about yourself.
Speaker CYou're doing goalkeeping, coaching.
Speaker BOh, yeah.
Speaker BSo any soccer player wanting to do goalkeeping lessons in the Charleston area now with total soccer.
Speaker BSo tsx, Charleston would do free.
Speaker BI do a free evaluation.
Speaker BAnd then there's other packages that you guys can go in, sign up for.
Speaker BAnd I'm in Somerville, James Island, West Ashley.
Speaker BAnd then also in August, I'll be getting my tracer camera, so then I can also film more sessions and stuff like that too.
Speaker CSo what do you evaluate?
Speaker CWhat is your evaluation?
Speaker CDo you get like go?
Speaker CIs it like getting on a circus ride?
Speaker CYou have to be so tall.
Speaker BWell, my evaluation, the evaluation's more like a well rounded circuit, various drills, shooting, distribution, diving, and just working on the fundamentals of basic positioning and making sure everything is working correctly.
Speaker BFor example, a player I worked with yesterday at CSC when, you know, he was having a hard time with penalty saves.
Speaker BAnd we worked on his chest positioning because he wasn't keeping his chest carry out when he wasn't.
Speaker BWhen he was diving, he wasn't staying horizontal.
Speaker BHe was opening his text backwards.
Speaker BSo like his back shoulder, he would overcompensate his front shoulder or his back shoulder coming across so his inside shoulder would be pointed open to the bowl.
Speaker BSo then if we touched it at all, it would still go on the back of the neck.
Speaker BSo we worked on that and he did a lot better on penalty kicks after that.
Speaker CWe're going to talk about penalty kicks here in a little bit.
Speaker BYes.
Speaker CWhat else?
Speaker CSo it sounds like you might know what you're doing just a touch.
Speaker COkay.
Speaker BJust, just, just a smidge.
Speaker CWell, I will say that the couple players I've that you have coached toodled, mentored, love your energy and love all the everything you bring to the game practice, they say it's not boring, it's a lot of fun.
Speaker CThey're being challenged.
Speaker CSo I think it sounds like you do a pretty good job and you're chasing your coaching license for what?
Speaker BYep.
Speaker BSo at the moment I just had my first class yesterday for my D license for US soccer.
Speaker BSo I'll get in nine week.
Speaker BIt's a nine week course so we'll go talk a little bit about that each week, do a little check ins on that.
Speaker BI have to travel to Greenville for two in person weekends and then after I complete the D license course, hopefully in six months in the springtime, I'll be able to block my C license course.
Speaker CWell that sounds like a lot of fun.
Speaker CAnd plus you might get to sneak in a match up at Greenville.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BSo I'm excited about that.
Speaker BEnd of August, hopefully going to go up and get see Toby again and catch their game against Examoa.
Speaker BIs it plenty saying?
Speaker CSure.
Speaker BLike small, something like that.
Speaker BBut I think it's gonna be a good game.
Speaker BAnd Toby one, you got Jaegermeister king of the week.
Speaker BSo congrats to him.
Speaker CSo he's only been here for a couple weeks.
Speaker BRight.
Speaker CAnd he's already got at least one goal, an assist.
Speaker BI think he's a month in now.
Speaker CA team of the week.
Speaker CHe's like beast mode.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker CWe're not gonna talk about.
Speaker BAnd that's coming off a 40 game season in England.
Speaker CYeah, we're.
Speaker CWe're trying to get him back on so we can harass him a little bit and see when he's going to come to the real big leagues.
Speaker CUSL Championship.
Speaker CEven though Greenville might win the Jaeger Mike up, who knows.
Speaker CSo let's transition to that team in South Georgia.
Speaker CThe we had a quite viperous conversation on our WhatsApp group as the match went on and as it got more and more tense, I become more and more vocal and everyone took their positions and we dug in and we stuck to it.
Speaker CBut first, before we get to My lamb blasting people.
Speaker CPatrick, what do you think of the first couple goals?
Speaker AWell, let's dial it back.
Speaker ALet's start with just first half.
Speaker AFirst half, some changes to the lineup.
Speaker ASo more typical of what we've seen in, say, last year, we had our two center backs starting next to each other for the first time in a long time.
Speaker APaired with Segber's out wide and Ikaza and Rodriguez and who else?
Speaker ACal up top and then.
Speaker AAnd our boy Johnny.
Speaker CAnd.
Speaker AI don't know if we're legally allowed to say it, he's not 18, right.
Speaker AWe can't say his name, but we did, we did have a youngster out there who looked incredible.
Speaker AOur first goal we want to get into it is coming off of the back of his work, dribbling in the box, dribbling around some defenders and winning a corner, which led to our first goal.
Speaker ASo I thought he was a lively spark.
Speaker AI thought he brought something that we really don't have in our team, which is individual play in between players.
Speaker AWe have individual play that's kind of outside the box, but someone that drives really hard and looks for cutbacks.
Speaker ANot just drive and shoot, drive and shoot, but driving cutback, driving cross across the goal face.
Speaker ASo, yeah, I thought he was looking pretty awesome as well as Icaza.
Speaker AI thought Icasa had a lot of spark out there.
Speaker ASo between him, Rodriguez and Victor, we had a lot of energy in that first half, but I'm sure we'll get into it later.
Speaker AFew subs, lack of energy, kind of the whole game plan goes out the window.
Speaker ABut I thought first goal was great.
Speaker AI'm pretty sure we predicted center back goal from a corner set piece.
Speaker AAnd I think you got the player correct.
Speaker AAnd Leland coming back, had a goal.
Speaker CBread and butter off his forehead.
Speaker CBang.
Speaker CRight in there.
Speaker CBeautiful.
Speaker CIt was a beautiful corner kick.
Speaker CSet it up because all you had to do is just jump up and kind of redirect it in.
Speaker CSo, yes, I've nailed that one.
Speaker CAnd then it went down for Hill from there for me.
Speaker ABut anyways, yeah, I mean, also, if this game was in the usl, I think Rodriguez would be tallying up a lot of assists.
Speaker AI think he's really starting to shine in this team.
Speaker ASo I can't wait to have Juan David back and back into regular play to see these guys cook the opposition, give them no breath, like just tear them down, suffocate them.
Speaker ABecause you could tell we were missing Juan David in that squad.
Speaker AYeah, there were some moments where we kind of just let off and I don't know if it was what we talked about, what you kind of said in the group with Pyramid and coaching, but I mean, as players too.
Speaker AAnd I think a few players really let us down.
Speaker AI mean, Segbers is one for sure.
Speaker AI think he.
Speaker AHe honestly had a penalty shout in the first half that should have been called and he was lucky to get away with it.
Speaker CYeah, I.
Speaker CAnd he's been putting in minutes for several matches now.
Speaker CJust this isn't the first time we've seen him.
Speaker CHe's come in a handful of matches and played 20 minutes or so.
Speaker CAnd so I don't know if it's match fitness for him.
Speaker CHe just doesn't seem as quick as he was before his injury.
Speaker CAnd so I think that adds to it when you're getting beat.
Speaker CAnd they.
Speaker CThey had what we call them the dimplay of.
Speaker COf Tormenta.
Speaker CThe man's fast, fast, but trying to keep up with that.
Speaker CYou end up, you know, doing silly things that get you in trouble.
Speaker CI think is what we're seeing from.
Speaker CFrom Segurus.
Speaker CBut I think you're spot on.
Speaker CHey, I.
Speaker CCause a.
Speaker CBecause he was playing kind of the back there where Aaron Malloy in that and plays and, and letting everybody up in front of him really work the ball.
Speaker CHe brought a lot of energy and.
Speaker CAnd it was.
Speaker CThere was impressive moments and then there wasn't so impressive moments.
Speaker AAnd shout out to Tormenta's goal as well.
Speaker AWhat a strike.
Speaker AFree kick.
Speaker AGorgeous goal.
Speaker AI mean, you hate to see it, but I don't know, Ryan, do you see anything from a keeper standpoint on that thing or is it just admiration of a nice free kick?
Speaker BI mean, yeah, you're going to.
Speaker BIt's nice placement, great goal.
Speaker BIt's a hard pill to swallow.
Speaker BBut at the same time too, you have to respect them.
Speaker BLike I always say too, you always have to respect your opponent.
Speaker BAnd understand at the same time too, they're.
Speaker BThey're playing on the same pitch as you for a reason.
Speaker BThere's a reason why they are able to share the pitch with you and they.
Speaker BThey able.
Speaker BThey were able to showcase that in the first half and absolutely put away a beautiful goal.
Speaker BDo I feel like Christian could have saved it?
Speaker BPossibly 100% if he replays it in his head, but I think 100% he needs to not think about it, move on to the next as he had a lot more action the rest of the night.
Speaker CAnd it was a very dangerous spot to give up that foul.
Speaker BYeah, I was not pleased with That I knew as soon as it happened in that one spot.
Speaker BI mean, like a battery fold.
Speaker BLike, we've seen it on both ends, right?
Speaker BBoth ends, where if the foul happens there for us, we're like, yes, because we know what it can do.
Speaker BBut if it's against us, we're already on edge because we've seen it go the other way so many times.
Speaker BAnd this one, again, adds to it.
Speaker CCould be taller jumpers.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker AI mean, maybe just not give it up.
Speaker AWe could start with that.
Speaker CNo, that would be too easy.
Speaker CThat'd be way too easy.
Speaker AWe had some tall guys in there, right.
Speaker BMaybe foul them like 10 yards further up the field.
Speaker COr closer.
Speaker COne of the two.
Speaker BOr closer.
Speaker CYou know, it's.
Speaker AThis is the one where you need the wall to.
Speaker ATo cheat the ref out of his spray foam line.
Speaker CExactly.
Speaker CJust kind of start edging forward.
Speaker CHey, and you mentioned something very important was the pitch.
Speaker CDid their pitch look under very similar conditions that we're in?
Speaker CYou know, they're just a couple hundred miles south of us, not even that far, and their pitch looked like in a lot better condition than ours.
Speaker AThat was.
Speaker AThat was all AI.
Speaker CIs that what it was?
Speaker COkay.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker CAnd.
Speaker CAnd I did discuss that.
Speaker CNext time I go down, Tormenta, we're gonna hide in the.
Speaker CIn the sand pit behind it.
Speaker CAnd every time they shoot a ball over, because they were really good at doing that, we're just gonna snag them and sneak off with them and sell them in the black market.
Speaker CThey're like 100.
Speaker AYou would have a lot.
Speaker AThey had what, 20 some shots and.
Speaker COnly seven target, so thank goodness, right?
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AYour Dembele boy, man, if he could shoot.
Speaker CHe did.
Speaker CHe shot.
Speaker AWe would be in a world of hurt.
Speaker CHe shot.
Speaker CIt just wasn't as accurate as they'd probably like.
Speaker CHe just had.
Speaker CHe just.
Speaker CAs we said, he just didn't have his shooting boots on.
Speaker CHe must have left them in the truck.
Speaker CTruck.
Speaker COr something like that.
Speaker CSo.
Speaker AI think his name's Reed Steven.
Speaker AAnd we did give him credit that he was a menace to us, but he also got shot down right away, as this is why he's kind of at the level he's at and not up a higher level, because that kind of turnaround, breakthrough speed is deadly.
Speaker AAnd he just can't do anything with it.
Speaker CAll he had to do is just stop.
Speaker CJust.
Speaker CI don't know.
Speaker CJust.
Speaker CI don't know, because he's.
Speaker CHe was always like, you know, 10ft in front of our back line.
Speaker CAnd I want to Give a shot.
Speaker CChristian Gardner took, what, 21 shots.
Speaker CI can't remember how he got goal, and one of those was a breakaway, and he got it with his foot.
Speaker CAnd I think that was probably going to go, and it was a great save.
Speaker CAnd we're going to talk about some other saves, but that one, I think, was a great save that wasn't mentioned a whole lot, but I think it really set us up to keep scoring goals and put us in the front because we weren't trying to deal with leaking another goal.
Speaker CBrian, you want to jump in?
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BIt's the reason why I like Christian so much, and I'm a big fan of his, and it comes from his simple work ethic, his grind, his attitude in the way he carries himself and discipline on the pitch, off the pitch.
Speaker BWe've seen how he is interact with him a bit and that he.
Speaker BHe has the right approach about everything.
Speaker BAnd then when it comes to.
Speaker BOn the pitch, too, you just see the constant raising of the standards.
Speaker BHe's constantly raising his standards in which he holds himself in the game, throughout the game, as the game progresses, as it goes in.
Speaker BAnd it's continuous.
Speaker BIt's every single game, it's the same pattern.
Speaker BWhether he makes a mistake or not, he is still going further.
Speaker BHe is still outperforming than what he did, the mistake that just happened.
Speaker BRight.
Speaker BYes, he let three goals in, but he didn't deter that away from him making the final save and the penalty shootout.
Speaker BRight.
Speaker CI'm gonna call you on that.
Speaker CHe let three goals and he didn't let three go.
Speaker BNo, I'm just saying.
Speaker BNo.
Speaker BAnd the reason why I say to let three goals in is because at the end of the day, some of these people will just say, oh, he had three bulls for him, or how did these goals.
Speaker BBecause they're not watching the highlights, right?
Speaker BSome.
Speaker BSome.
Speaker BSome of these people aren't watching the highlights and they gotta understand, like, that first goal is an absolute bang.
Speaker BBeautiful.
Speaker BNot a lot he can do about that.
Speaker BThere's not.
Speaker BNot a whole lot.
Speaker BLiterally 2% chance.
Speaker BIf I gave a statistic percentage on like, 2%.
Speaker BOkay, so any.
Speaker BAnything over 65%, like, you have a 65% chance of saving it.
Speaker BKind of iffy still.
Speaker BSo you solve a lot of variables.
Speaker BSo some.
Speaker BSome keepers, you just.
Speaker BYou just dive to throw out a body card to save it, see if you can.
Speaker BYou never know.
Speaker BNever know.
Speaker CSo what else?
Speaker CSo I think we scored a couple more goals after that, right?
Speaker BYeah, we did two more.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker ASecond half Was much better.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker AWe had a goal again this time.
Speaker ARodriguez driving through three players and getting the ball cut back to Cal, who does Cal things.
Speaker ATurns, shoots.
Speaker CSpinny.
Speaker CSpinny.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker ADeflection or not, it's on target.
Speaker ADeflection just puts it in a different side of the target and goes in.
Speaker CIt's a bank shot.
Speaker CIt's a bank shot.
Speaker CIt wasn't deflection.
Speaker CIt was a bank shot.
Speaker BHe knew upsetting way to get scored on for a keeper.
Speaker BLike literally just makes you want to take the ball out and just put it into the stands and you know things.
Speaker AThis is the type of goal we've been missing a lot is just the turn and shoot and something happens.
Speaker ALike we saw games where we just went without shooting to begin the year and you're like, well, probably not going to win if you're not even shooting it.
Speaker ASo this is what happens.
Speaker AA bit of luck.
Speaker AYes.
Speaker CBut that was, that was like a roundhouse turn.
Speaker CIt wasn't just kind of like a turn.
Speaker CIt was like he can fly.
Speaker CYou know, he had to really get some momentum with his leg to defeat the attempted block, to defeat the, the velocity stealing deflection or bank shot as I like to call it.
Speaker CAnd he's still putting it back to goal.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AAnd then we had Victor come off who I thought played really well for 60 minutes and.
Speaker CYeah, let's.
Speaker CLet's talk about him.
Speaker CYeah, let's talk about his.
Speaker ACome on though, for him who created the, the third chance.
Speaker CLet's talk about vgo, right?
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker CBecause what he didn't do is he didn't really.
Speaker CHe didn't put us in jeopardy.
Speaker CHe.
Speaker CHe worked his butt off.
Speaker CHe went out there and he, he didn't make mistakes.
Speaker CThat.
Speaker CHow old is he?
Speaker A17?
Speaker CYeah, 17.
Speaker C18.
Speaker CThat.
Speaker CAnd that was that.
Speaker CHe.
Speaker CThat was his first start for us.
Speaker CIs that correct?
Speaker ACorrect.
Speaker AYes.
Speaker BYeah, that was his name.
Speaker CSo great for him coming on, on the pitch and not messing things up because I imagine the stress and the pressure and everything else.
Speaker CHe.
Speaker CHe looked small compared to those Tormenta players, but that's just.
Speaker CHe's going to have to deal with that.
Speaker CI think he did a fantastic job.
Speaker COkay, now let's talk about who.
Speaker ACome on for Kelly, the new guy, right?
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker AFirst minutes in a battery jersey and we didn't have to wait long.
Speaker AWhat was it?
Speaker AIt came on 62nd minute and two minutes later.
Speaker BHe's.
Speaker CIt's almost his first touch, right?
Speaker AYeah, first touch.
Speaker AI mean, I guess the only better first touch you could have is if you put it in the net yourself.
Speaker ABut unselfish layoff play to Ikaza who is working his ass off and great goal.
Speaker AI mean he, the.
Speaker AHe held off what three guys on that kind of in the box to get back.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker CAnd then this as he, as he lays it off back to Eaza, he just calmly walks away.
Speaker CJust.
Speaker CJust calmly gets out of the way so I can, you know, ripple the net in the back.
Speaker CSo.
Speaker CSo yeah.
Speaker CWhat, what a big difference coming in.
Speaker CThat's.
Speaker CThat's.
Speaker CHopefully he's not our super sub.
Speaker CHopefully we get him out there starting, he can do more great things like that.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker CWhat else?
Speaker CWe were talking about some other.
Speaker AI think him and Allen are going to have a good rotation of going back and forth for some games.
Speaker AMaybe not, not getting the tired legs, but kind of that big presence.
Speaker AYou know, you're not really turning the ball over with these guys and you're going to get these better outlet passes from them.
Speaker AJust another great signing, honestly, a guy who's just going to add to our team.
Speaker CBrian, any thoughts on signings and adding to the team?
Speaker CNope.
Speaker COkay, let's move on to.
Speaker CSo we thought we were cruising.
Speaker CWe thought we were ready.
Speaker CWe were just kind of chilling.
Speaker CRight.
Speaker BI like where we're at and I like the signing.
Speaker BBeing in the midfield, being in the attacking half, in the defensive half.
Speaker BI like it.
Speaker BI don't think we need anybody.
Speaker CI don't.
Speaker BI don't think we need anybody else.
Speaker COh, yes we do.
Speaker AIs there anyone we can get rid of that maybe we saw sub on in the 72nd minute?
Speaker CWho was that?
Speaker COne of those.
Speaker AIt was a different Rodriguez who I thought was very lackluster and maybe the wrong substitution to make.
Speaker CDiego.
Speaker CYeah, there's another sub in there too.
Speaker CThat was just.
Speaker CWe all went.
Speaker CThis is very underwhelming.
Speaker CI'm not going to mention his name.
Speaker ABut the camera almost went past him.
Speaker ABecause you expect a player to jog onto the field and you just kind of slumber out there.
Speaker ASo not a great start to seeing your players enter the pitch.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker CMaybe it's time for him to reevaluate his presence on the team.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker CI don't know.
Speaker CBut what did happen is we've had a.
Speaker CWe had a complete collapse of our back two, namely one.
Speaker CWell, if it Seg versa n and Leland, they were just getting behind us and here we are, I think we're cruising to an easy 31 victory and all sudden they tie it up.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker ASo I know we talked about in our Kind of group chat.
Speaker AThat second goal and you were kind of not cussing out Leland but giving him some well deserved criticism.
Speaker ABut watching it back, I mean Rodriguez is right there, the younger Rodriguez, and it looked like he went to go for the man and then just stopped.
Speaker AAnd so Leland is playing closer to where his position is.
Speaker ASo I mean it's definitely miscommunication.
Speaker ABut when you just have someone young like that, they don't recognize these things and you can see what happens from it.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker CAnd, and then my criticism turned from Leland to.
Speaker CI'm gonna release, jump out here and say that I think coach Pearman did us dirty.
Speaker CI know he likes to attack, attack, attack, attack.
Speaker CBut when you see their player getting behind us time and time and time again and not just getting behind us, but getting behind us big with the ball.
Speaker CThank God he doesn't have his shooting boots.
Speaker CThank God that CG stopped one of them.
Speaker CAnd why not park the bus?
Speaker CNobody's explained to me why not just park the bus.
Speaker CWhy not just support your, your, your backs there.
Speaker CThey're coming off injury.
Speaker CWhy not just park the bus?
Speaker AI mean it's almost like he, he decided to bring his smaller lineup of players, maybe even.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker AMost of these subs.
Speaker AYes, Kelly's a larger guy, but he is more attack minded.
Speaker AConway to me is.
Speaker AIt's going to sound harsh, but he is the same as the yellow figurines you put on the training pitch.
Speaker AHe's not going to be working out there for you.
Speaker AHe's not the first guy back.
Speaker AAnd defending, I mean MD is a different case.
Speaker AAnd you, this is the issue.
Speaker AYou can't have.
Speaker ACal just played 90 minutes.
Speaker AI mean, we talked, they all looked tired, it was hot, everybody was sweating.
Speaker AThe ref went swimming at halftime.
Speaker CYeah, he did mention that, didn't you?
Speaker ABut like Cal and MD would have been working harder as that first line of defense and you have a guy like Conway come on and just kind of jog around the pitch.
Speaker AIt's not doing anything from your team.
Speaker AIt's not helping the guys behind him.
Speaker AIt's putting more pressure on them because they know the ball's just coming directly through.
Speaker ASo.
Speaker CYeah, and I appreciate, yeah, I appreciate up top.
Speaker AIn a game like this, you can see a few of these substitutions up.
Speaker AYeah, you want to give the guy minutes, but he doesn't deserve it at this point.
Speaker AIf that's the performance you're going to get out of them.
Speaker CYeah, absolutely.
Speaker CSo if it's a senior player, you don't.
Speaker CIf they're Gonna not play like that.
Speaker CThat's doesn't look good to your junior players.
Speaker CSo there's no having the pitch.
Speaker BDo you think that, you know, he's trying to force himself out?
Speaker AI don't think with Pierman, guys, he tries to force guys out because he'll just not play them.
Speaker BYeah, well, no, I'm not saying Pierman's way.
Speaker BI'm saying it's the player's way with the attitude.
Speaker BThat's what I'm saying.
Speaker BThe approach that he's taking on the pitch and what everyone is saying.
Speaker BDo you think he's doing that because he wants to be moved?
Speaker BLike he does it, like, of who he has in front of him and what has been his minutes thus far this season and where we currently stand.
Speaker BDo you think he's like, okay, maybe move on somewhere else?
Speaker AI don't think it's as much that as it is just character deflation.
Speaker ALike he thought he was going to get a better chance, but the competition's in and he's just not going to.
Speaker AHe's not competing for it.
Speaker AAnd some people are that way.
Speaker AThey fold under pressure and competition and prefer an easier route.
Speaker AAnd I think he's just at that time in his career where it's really not panning out anymore.
Speaker AYou're not the young guy who's out there like we saw with md Maryland was the young guy who's scoring a bunch in MLS next and then comes over and has to wait a little bit behind this strike force and Marcanic, Juan David.
Speaker AI mean, I think he's just.
Speaker AHe doesn't do well with the competition we have and competition is good for a team with championship aspirations.
Speaker C100%.
Speaker BAnd that I think like, you know, but like, do you think that attitude though, with him being here, this is his third season now.
Speaker CI don't think if he, if he had the attitude because Pierre wouldn't put him out there.
Speaker CI don't know what happens when he steps out there, but I think if he had attitude, he's trying to not play his way off the team.
Speaker CI don't think coach Pierre put him out there.
Speaker BI'm just saying I wouldn't be surprised because I'm looking at similar Jake with Alvo situation.
Speaker BWhen Jake got sent out to San Antonio mid season, it's very similar because Jake only played that last game, his last game he only played a little bit of minutes and it wasn't too pretty.
Speaker BAnd that was about all she wrote for him.
Speaker BYeah, it's just everything similar.
Speaker BSo I wouldn't be surprised is all I'm saying.
Speaker CBut, you know, I wouldn't be surprised if he left also because he's only getting a couple minutes at the end of a.
Speaker COf a Jaegermeister cup, which we really don't have any chance of moving on.
Speaker CMaybe we do, but.
Speaker BWell, no jam.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BNo way.
Speaker BThey can't.
Speaker CAnd we will.
Speaker AWe will be bringing back a striker from Gold cup here once US that's scored, right?
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AOnce USA beats them Wednesday night.
Speaker CSo that's not a given, dude.
Speaker CThat's not a good price.
Speaker BI was telling.
Speaker BI was telling y' all that.
Speaker BWell, I was telling definitely telling everybody around here about Costa Rica coming in and.
Speaker BAnd it was going to make him very difficult for the U.S.
Speaker AI mean, it's not the strongest U.S. team, so.
Speaker BLet'S not forget that no U.S. team.
Speaker BBut it does, it does make it question who should now be carried into the World cup roster.
Speaker BA few of these guys.
Speaker BThere's maybe a.
Speaker BThere's a little handful and you know, keeper situation is a good topic to talk about too, with the US national team too.
Speaker BBut that's definitely a talk for another day where those keepers apparently stand.
Speaker BAnd he was looking right for the World Cup.
Speaker AI mean, let's just call this the US Youth soccer team, where if you're.
Speaker AIf your dad says the right stuff and has the right money, you're going to get on the pitch.
Speaker AWe'll just leave it at that.
Speaker CWhat.
Speaker CWhat are you talking about?
Speaker CWell, let's talk about something else.
Speaker CSo let's talk about some cool stuff.
Speaker CWe've been kind of downer on some things is Segbers gets caught PK CG facing that's presumably their best PK taker and he stops it.
Speaker CWhen we talk to him, he says, I'm a shot stopper.
Speaker CRight.
Speaker CIs this what he's talking about?
Speaker CHow many PK we see him, said he.
Speaker BYeah, well, outside of penalty shootout two.
Speaker CTimes now and we've seen him play three times.
Speaker CY.
Speaker CSo Ryan talk us through the intense look on his face and kind of.
Speaker BHe'S fully locked in and wanting to know everything about that player before he even kicks it.
Speaker BAnd in this league I'd be very intrigued because most players you see in the Premier League now, like these young keepers growing up, they're like looking at like Jordan Pickford, he holds the water bottle next to the goal, who has a picture of the goal of where their top few goal scorers, like he would take a point in what place they typically go.
Speaker BTo percentage wise all broken down or where they go and, you know, not having something similar to that.
Speaker BI know when they do their scouting reports, they say, okay, this is a dude.
Speaker BWe've seen him take the last three in the last three.
Speaker BHe's gone this way every time, you know, and you kind of use that to your best judgment when.
Speaker BIf that report came across, I'm sure it was with him being the best shot stopper.
Speaker BI feel like Christian wanted a pen to save that game.
Speaker BIt's unfortunate what followed after that and added time, but he definitely wanted to put the game in his hands, like, at the very end and wanted it.
Speaker BI felt like when Segurus followed him, he kind of cheered, but he was excited.
Speaker BHe was like, I could end it right here.
Speaker CBut I kind of felt like, you just want to set it up so you could stop another one.
Speaker BYeah, that's what I'm saying.
Speaker BLike, stop it.
Speaker BAnd then the game would be over, but at a time.
Speaker AI mean, it was a huge, huge save at the time because the Battery was still winning.
Speaker A3, 2.
Speaker AAnd this is the 89th minute, so I know.
Speaker AI was holding my breath watching that.
Speaker AAnd then once he saves it, I was like, all right, great.
Speaker AIn the bag.
Speaker AWe're good.
Speaker AThat was it.
Speaker AThat was the last one.
Speaker AIt wasn't.
Speaker ABut, yeah, hell of a save for the timing 90th minute to just deny them that equalizer, which should have put that game to bed in regular time.
Speaker CMan, talk about a roller coaster for him.
Speaker BRight?
Speaker CSo we're up.
Speaker CWe won.
Speaker CRolling, rolling, rolling.
Speaker CAll of a sudden, oh, I gotta stop a PK to keep us, you know, ahead.
Speaker CYeah, ahead.
Speaker CI do that.
Speaker CAnd then all of a sudden, they're breaking through again and scoring a goal.
Speaker CAnd then now all of a sudden, we're tied up.
Speaker BI'm headed to another 30 minutes of the hat of time.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker CNo, you mean PKs.
Speaker AJust the.
Speaker BOh, no.
Speaker CIt felt like 30 minutes.
Speaker BIt felt like it with the.
Speaker BWith the weight.
Speaker CBecause I was screaming, yelling on WhatsApp.
Speaker CI was.
Speaker CI was quite upset off.
Speaker CAnd you guys like, no.
Speaker CAnd I'm like, yes, I know whose fault it is.
Speaker CI won't say whose fault.
Speaker CSo then we go to penalty kicks.
Speaker CEasy peasy.
Speaker CWe're rolling.
Speaker CI think CG did us.
Speaker CYou know, I'll let it go until the last one he almost had.
Speaker CHe almost was.
Speaker CThe third one he almost got a hand on was kind of.
Speaker BThere's 101 that went off his fingertips.
Speaker CYeah, I. I will say this, that if it comes down to PKs in the future.
Speaker CI want CG in the net.
Speaker CIf, if we're facing Phoenix or whatever in the final again, we better be subbing CG in the last 30 seconds so he can face PKs.
Speaker BRight, well, now keepers don't.
Speaker BYou can switch your keepers out.
Speaker BDepends.
Speaker CEven in the PK situation.
Speaker BYeah, well, you got me.
Speaker BLook at that rule.
Speaker BWe gotta look at that rule because I, I thought they changed it.
Speaker CThey might have.
Speaker CAnd to be fair, the rules only change like today.
Speaker CYeah, right.
Speaker CIs it June 1 or July 1?
Speaker CI can't remember when the new IFAB laws of the game go in.
Speaker CBut anyways, so down that last one and he stops it.
Speaker CAnd he doesn't look happy, he just steps up, he looks out at everyone.
Speaker CI think, I don't know if it was a look of disgust of like, screw y', all, if you guys can't win this, I'll win it for you.
Speaker CAnd then he walked over to the opposing keeper and took his hand.
Speaker CIt was kind of anti climatic.
Speaker AHe knows he had about three, three and a half hour ride home.
Speaker COh, I'd be talking too, earlier.
Speaker CI, we should have went down and picked him up.
Speaker ATake out right after the 90th minute.
Speaker AAll right, come on.
Speaker CYeah, well, if you like, if you look at like the, the stories, you know, he was talking about when he, he was, he'd get in a position where he thinks he could do, you know, break it into the, the big time.
Speaker CAnd then something would happen and they would bring somebody in and, and he'd be back down on the bench and all these stories like he was telling.
Speaker CAnd I felt like this was kind of the same thing.
Speaker COh, look, I'm cruising.
Speaker CBam.
Speaker CNope, they're going to give it up and they're going to make me really work for this.
Speaker CAnd then he said, you know, at the end, I'm, I'm.
Speaker CIt's in my hand or hands.
Speaker CThey took it.
Speaker AIt's not often you have games where three goals go in and you're not sitting there blaming the keeper.
Speaker AYou're looking at everyone else on that field.
Speaker AIt's a really tough scenario to ever be in because usually the keeper takes a lot of heat.
Speaker ABut I think every Battery fan can agree.
Speaker ANone of this was on Gardner.
Speaker AThis was 100% elsewhere on the field.
Speaker AAnd he put his heart to keep us in this game and get us the win.
Speaker AWell, the draw with the bonus point, which is a win in my book because we were sitting with zero points at the bottom of the Table now we have two points and we have a chance to actually get through out of this.
Speaker AThis USL Jagermeister Cup.
Speaker CYeah, he.
Speaker CHe won the game for us easily.
Speaker BSo remaining.
Speaker BWe have two Jagermeister cups remaining.
Speaker BCan hear myself cans to Tampa, Miami.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AAnd if we just get two wins then we should be good.
Speaker BSo I thought it was.
Speaker BHow many advance out of the table?
Speaker CThe top two.
Speaker CAnd then there's two wild cards or something like that.
Speaker CSomething like that.
Speaker CWe should know this.
Speaker CWe're supposed to be these semi professional amateurs.
Speaker AWell, it's the first.
Speaker AFirst year.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker AThere's a little more Jagermeister than cup right now.
Speaker CI. I got a lot of cups and.
Speaker CNo.
Speaker CYeah.
Speaker CMike and I have some backups.
Speaker CI have some sub cups.
Speaker COkay, let's.
Speaker CThat was a very grueling match and I'm glad we come out the other side.
Speaker CIt seemed like we had to.
Speaker COur players had to do a lot of work to get it over the line.
Speaker CAnd now we're facing a game tomorrow night against the Legion in Birmingham.
Speaker CI do believe part of the reason why somebody couldn't be on the podcast.
Speaker CWe'll find you later.
Speaker CKnow who you are.
Speaker CAnyways, what do you think, Ryan?
Speaker CWhat's our.
Speaker CWhat's.
Speaker CWhat are we gonna do with this one?
Speaker COr let's just.
Speaker CJust go straight for gold predictions.
Speaker BGive a.
Speaker BGive a Patrick for her.
Speaker BSo I gotta look up Major Wolf.
Speaker CLook up here as Ryan is looking up his gambling websites on his phone.
Speaker BYes.
Speaker CRyan doesn't gamble.
Speaker CPatrick, what do you think?
Speaker AI think we'll bounce back.
Speaker AWe've been in this kind of pattern for the past five, six games where we draw or lose and then we win and then we draw or lose and then we win.
Speaker AWell, we just drew, so I feel like we're going to win maybe maybe two one, but I think it's going to be a little more controlled than a 2:1 scoreline would indicate.
Speaker AI think we're going to actually possess the ball really well.
Speaker AWe'll have our main guys back.
Speaker AWe'll kind of keep the pressure on and then the other team will just slowly fade into the distance.
Speaker CDo you think we'll see some Kelly time?
Speaker AI think.
Speaker AI think he's going to ramp it up a little bit.
Speaker AI mean he got what, 30 minutes in this game?
Speaker AMaybe he starts.
Speaker AI don't know.
Speaker AIt's.
Speaker AIt's between him and Alan, I would say.
Speaker AAnd Allen came on in this game as well.
Speaker ASo honestly, like most things in this sport, we'll see who's Better in training throughout the week and then who gets the nod?
Speaker CAnd Aaron's been chilling, right?
Speaker CAaron's been chilling.
Speaker CHe should be ready.
Speaker CRock and roll.
Speaker BYeah.
Speaker BBut only a short week though to earn those minutes.
Speaker BSo it's a midweight game.
Speaker BSo tomorrow, Wednesday.
Speaker BI'm really liking it.
Speaker BJust feel like it's going to be.
Speaker BWe're going to get a hold of it on the road.
Speaker BI feel like Birmingham is going to lose their heads and I feel like Cal is just, it's just going to bring that old heat with them and just serve it up nicely down there for them in Alabama.
Speaker BI'm going with 4 0.
Speaker C4 0.
Speaker BYep.
Speaker CWow.
Speaker COkay.
Speaker CI was gonna go with 21 also.
Speaker BWell, 40 on the road.
Speaker CI'll split.
Speaker CI'll go 3 1.
Speaker CHow's that?
Speaker C4 0.
Speaker COkay.
Speaker CLet's put the skin in the game.
Speaker CIf it is 4 0, then you buy Patrick myself a beer at the next minute.
Speaker CNo, can't be the other way around.
Speaker CNo, no, not at all.
Speaker CYou, you made the outlandish 40 claim she was proud of.
Speaker CIt's like, it's like you know, being at the bar like ah, next round's on me.
Speaker CSo.
Speaker AWhich will be a quick turnaround because it's Sunday.
Speaker AYeah.
Speaker AAt Patriots point against those dirty Northerners For a trophy.
Speaker BFor a cup.
Speaker CWho has the cup right now, huh?
Speaker CDo we have it?
Speaker CIs it still in the front of the.
Speaker CThe van that I saw a picture of last I saw in between the two front seats.
Speaker BI was like currently had it.
Speaker BBut we are losing right now because yeah, we're losing 2 to 1 on aggregate right now.
Speaker CHey, with it's as prolific scores as we are as you're saying we're going to be then I think we get.
Speaker BI think we'll beat North Carolina too.
Speaker BGet from there.
Speaker BAfter Birmingham and the usual.
Speaker BI got the scores already lined up.
Speaker BBirmingham already been written.
Speaker COkay.
Speaker CThat way you can buy his beers.
Speaker BHey, I'm just letting you know when one DB hits it all FL the post and it goes in wraps around the net.
Speaker BJust saying when it happened, don't come screaming to me.
Speaker BCheering S oh my gosh.
Speaker AYeah, sounds great.
Speaker AI think I, I hope the fans show up and aren't on that fourth of July hangover on Sunday so.
Speaker COh, Sunday.
Speaker CYeah, yeah.
Speaker CI will be not here.
Speaker CI will be scouting my big trip south then the midnight train to Georgia.
Speaker CWell, 7:30 but anyways so you guys are going to have to hold down the fort and make sure that good things happen.
Speaker AWe'll try.
Speaker AWe'll get the, we'll get this first win and then we'll ease into the next one.
Speaker COkay, fair enough.
Speaker CDoes anybody else have anything to add?
Speaker CWe're like really quiet here at the end.
Speaker CWe're very contemplative.
Speaker CSo this is like match last Saturday night, match tomorrow night, match Sunday night, S3.
Speaker CHopefully we've got the legs to do it.
Speaker CWe're used to the heat, so we can't use heat as an excuse.
Speaker CWe just got to muscle through it and hopefully Edwards comes off being injured.
Speaker COther cool thing, I, I think the battery put out and I, I don't know if I can't remember if this is a battery thing, but talk about, oh no, I can't remember Joey.
Speaker CJust how many miles he's put in and how much work he's put in over the last couple matches as a defender.
Speaker CReally, really cool to see those numbers.
Speaker CShows that they're out there working and he got a well deserved break and now I expect to see him back out there again so we can get this 4 nil.
Speaker BThis is, and this is like our big push month as well.
Speaker BLike our last big push month because this is the last month of our season at five games.
Speaker BEven though the Tampa game at the end of the month is a Yearmeister cup, but it's still, it's a additional game and you know, 12 games across three months after that.
Speaker BI think these boys going to be able to space it out and be able to make that threatening push for the long term in the playoffs.
Speaker CI agree.
Speaker CWe gotta be ready because we can do it.
Speaker CWe gotta get over the line this time.
Speaker AYeah, we gotta get, we gotta keep a center back on the bench too.
Speaker ANo matter how, how tired or how many other players we want to travel with, we got to keep at least one just for just in case moments like this where yep, you need a lifeblood out there to re spark the defense in the midfield and to prevent.
Speaker CInjury because when you're tired and you're getting beat all the time, you do, you know, bad things can happen.
Speaker COkay, so for a short podcast we droned on for 45 minutes.
Speaker CI think that's all I've got.
Speaker CRyan.
Speaker CAnything else?
Speaker CAny following thoughts up the battery all.
Speaker BSet up the battery.
Speaker CSa if we will take but we are the battle rain.
